I smell bad wrote:So Belpre beating Williamstown last year justifies a D-3 School in Ohio playing a single A, (D-6), school in WV? Not sure how that makes sense. BTW, how many times has Belpre beaten Williamstown lately? As for the game, Athens should dominate the much smaller school. But that is why they play the game.

Belpre beating Williamstown has no bearing on Athens and Wahama scheduling this game. The point was the Wahama vs Williamstown score and if it would have an indication of what the score might be.

How many times has Belpre beaten Williamstown of late you ask? Enough to make Williamstown want to drop Belpre and send the contract back unsigned.

They dropped us in the late 1980's after we beat them 4 years in a row. I see a pattern delevoping here.

I agree, Athens should win this game, but you play the game anyway because it is high school football and underdogs do win.

Wahama is the equivalent of a D-VI this season, according to www.joeeitel.com.

Amazing how people from Athens, the doormat of SEOAL football, now have the gumption to talk about how they are superior to anybody

So is the field this game is going to be played on really called Rutter Field? I sure do hope so. If it is, all you rutters should stop in Walts Place after the game and drink one for me. In a few months I will be hoping to get up there to see old Walt myself.

Mr. B, I see what you are saying. So since Williamstown lost to Belpre once, after beating them 5 years in a row, maybe more, they dropped Belpre. Makes sense to me. Wonder what the all time series is. Does Williamstown typically drop teams after losing to them once every 6 or 7 years? That is kind of strange. :122245

Comparing Ohio football to WVa. football is like comparing the Mountain West to the SEC! Big difference (not in style, but quality). Why do you think Ohio is recruited so hard nationally. Take Parkersburg, WVa. for example (last year's big school state champ), they couldn't hold a candle to St. X, etc.

Another take on that is I'd bet my last nickel that a decent D-6 (read Wahama-like) from Ohio would beat a mediocre D-3 (read Athens-like) from WVa; which the converse of that will be played Friday night. It may give us a WVa - Ohio measuring stick!?

The scheduling discussion is dead on! What a nightmare to try and find a non-conference 10th game. The TVC - Ohio needs to be more proactive with this issue -either let Belpre out of recruit someone (Warren?) in.

By the way, I think Walt is dead!

This is what is wrong with football around here. People are asking what is Wahama thinking? Athens is so much bigger. Just go to JoeEitel and click on D6 Region 23 or 24 and click the top 5 teams. Look at the schedule those guys play. If you think Wahama is crazy, then you will think some of those schools are psychotic. Some D2 schools are on their schedules, the difference is the large schools they play usually have winning records and the D6 teams still win. I think it is a very good game for Wahama. If they win think of all of those points, if they lose people will just look and say Athens was alot bigger and had more to choose from.

Woaah, slow down. The Ohio you are talking about is the rest of Ohio. We all know that SE Ohio is very weak in terms of football in comparison to the rest of the state. SE Ohio and WV are very comparable.

"SE Ohio and WV are very comparable."

That's a fair statement, I'll give you that one. :122249

Is WVa on week 10 as well or are they a week behind us? I know that use to create some issues as far as computer points.

Nothing wrong with playing Wahama. When a program is down you need to build confidence within the program. I'm sure this looked to be a easy game for Athens. However there was a few years when Wahama played like 3 or 4 TVC schools a couple years in a row and won them all. So don't count them out. I'm going with Athens but don't be surprised if Wahama wins this one. Go Dogs.

Can anyone tell me if the field this game is being played on is Rutter Field? Is Walt really dead? If he is, I hope someone is keeping the place open. I am barred from the AmVets, and I don't think I can make it from the West End all the way to Ali's without stopping in Chauncey for a drink. I wish my fellow rutters of Rutter field (if it is really named that) all the luck. Turn them rutters loose and let them bust some heads.

Rutter Fielders 30

West Virginians 0

Is it the size of the school or the size of the football team. If another team has more players on there team wouldnt that make them better ? Even though its a bigger school. Athens always about has 30 players (more or less ) Other teams seem to always have more. The more weapons the better the team . What good is having more boys if they dont play ???

I think that the White Falcons will represent themselves well against Athens.

AceRutter....what is your deal? Your posts are pretty annoying and distracting to this thread about a high school football game between Wahama and Athens.
