What are you talking about?
That was a very good game between two very good teams. It was one of the best refed games we have had this year.

it couldn't be that marietta simply had the better team tonight could it magic man?
oh and please tell me that you did not join SEOPS just to make that post about the refs
Re: Marietta #2 vs Chillicothe #1 (Round 3)
it was horrible refing. none of us in the croud understood none of the calls. the one goal they blew the whisle for offside so the kid kicks it in and everyone stops play , because thats what yous suppose to when the whisle blows. whats up with that call.

The whistle wasn't blown until the ball was in the net at which time the center ref saw that the line ref had the flag up for offsides. When the head ref went and talked to the side ref and figured out that the ball wasn't touched on the way in and that it wasn't offsides because no one touched it. It was obviously determined that Zach was on side when the ball was kicked. No one from chilli followed him in and it looked really bad which it usually does when you are watching the ball and not the last defender.
Re: Marietta #2 vs Chillicothe #1 (Round 3)
Good hard-fought game by both teams.
Two big calls went against Chillicothe. The first off-side call inthe first half against Chillicothe was big. Basil rocketed a shot the Marietta keeper could not handle. Chillicothe's Skowronek cleaned it up. The linesman said Skowronek was off, but it was questionable whether he was off on Basil's initial touch. The staff felt Skowronek just did a great job following up Basil's shot like he is supposed to do. The linesman misinterpreted Skowronek as being offside by his position after it rebounded off the keeper.
The second call was the same linesman's offside call against Marietta that resulted in a goal. Linesman says "offside", (Flag up) the center official comes in for a conference and overrules him. He was at least 30 yards behind the play.
Two very big, controversial calls that both went against Chillicothe. Really unfortunate to have that controversy in what was a really good game between two good clubs.
Congrats to Marietta. They did a really nice job weathering a lot of Chillicothe pressure in the 15 minutes leading to half, the early minutes just after half, and late in the game. They also did a nice job limiting Basil and Skowronek's opportunities.
Marieeta's keeper played anothe solid game.
Good luck against Athens.

Re: Marietta #2 vs Chillicothe #1 (Round 3)
i do credit him for being there to clean up the shot. it seems like many times people don't do that when it can result in an easy goal. from what i hear that call was to close to really say it went against chillicothe. its a possibility but not for sure. on the other call as long as marietta's attacker was in the onside position when the ball was played he is okay. i find it hard to believe that with the ball that was played being such a long one that anybody was actually paying attention to marietta's attackers position from the stands. so it is very possible that he simply cut behind the defense after the ball was played and if that is the case then the goal should stand for marietta. but overall great game from both sides. and what game doesn't have a few controversial calls? no refs are perfect

2 Seniors
4 Juniors
4 Sophmores
1 Freshman
The sweeper that put the rocket in from about 40 yards is one of our sophmores.
We should have a strong team next year. One senior plays center mid and the other outside mid. This leaves our defense and strikers all coming back next year.
Re: Marietta #2 vs Chillicothe #1 (Round 3)
I have to admit I was way wrong on this one...Congrats to Marietta on a huge win!
Re: Marietta #2 vs Chillicothe #1 (Round 3)
The tiger won and that is a fact.
Chillicothe kicked one in the back of the net after the line judge raised a flag as a rebound was kicked back in the net The head offical went to him and then waived off the goal. Good call, bad call I don't know but it was a big call.
The same line judge raised his flag at the top of the box. There was a whistle when it blew I could not tell you exacxtly when. The Chillicothe defenders relaxed and the ball rolled past the keeper. The Cavalier were ready to kick the ball the other way while the head official went to line judge. They spoke and the head official decided to signal goal. To Chillicothe credit the players handled what might have been considered a homer call with class. Was it the right call? I do not know. Do I believe if there was not flag raised or whistle blown would have the ball gone in. I highly doubt it. Again a big call that had a hugh impact on the game.
Bad break maybe, bad luck maybe. The fact that the season ended for some seniors with two hugh calls going against Chillicothe sad. I know someone had to lose.
I believe in giving credit where credit is due. Marrietta played most of the game with their back to the goal allowing Chillicothe many oppertunities to score, but they played well.
The cavaliers graduate only one starter this rivalry should continue
Good luck tigers beat the bulldogs

Sounds like Marietta and Chillicothe will be battling it out again next year. Our biggest rivalry has been Warren for many years. This looks like a new rivalry starting up.
Looking forward to us playing Chilli again next year. Should be some very good matchs.

Re: Marietta #2 vs Chillicothe #1 (Round 3)
Marrietta 21 Please help us out.. Explain the calls
At the moment the soccer gods have smiled on the tigers the last two games. How many goals have been taken off the scoreboard for the teams that you have been playing? at least 3 How many goals have their been official discussions and the goals were awarded? At least 2
Every team catches some breaks, some breaks are bigger than others. At this time, the good luck needle is pointed at the tigers. Hopefully the luck will continue for three more weeks. The tigers are a good team and in all sports catching a break or two or three are parts of the game. Since my cavaliers are eliminated, I would love to see the SEOAL represented in Columbus.

Re: Marietta #2 vs Chillicothe #1 (Round 3)
Let me preface this post by stating that I have no rooting interest in any of the teams in the District tournament, I am just a fan of soccer, and former referee, who has see many games in SE Ohio this fall, and I felt the need to join this forum to make a post on this topic.
In any sport, luck has a lot to do with the outcome, and soccer is no different. I was not at the Marietta/Waverly match, so I cannot comment on it, but I did watch the Marietta/Chillicothe match that everyone is talking about the poor officiating and Marietta getting "lucky" and referee's handing the game to Marietta.
First of all, you cannot say that a ball hitting the back of the net is a goal and then it was "called back." I saw in a Waverly post that Waverly claimed to have scored 5 goals against Marietta but 2 were "called back." Those my friends are not goals - the foul (offsides) was committed before the ball went into the back of the net. Therefore, nothing was "called back."
Now, onto the Marietta/Chillicothe match from Wednesday evening.
On the "goal that was called back" for Chillicothe, this is what occured, as I am going to try to explain it:
#11 (Basil I think) struck a shot from outside the penalty box. The Marietta goalkeeper made a save but could not handle the ball cleanly, and #9 (Tony I believe) proceeded to put the ball in the back of the net. If #11's shot would have gone directly into the goal, there would have been no problem, no foul. #9 was in an offsides position when #11 took the shot on goal, therefore when the ball bounced off the goalkeeper to him, he is offsides. If #11's shot had gone directly into the goal, #9 would not have been involved in the play, and only would have been guilty of being in an onffsides position, and the goal would have been allowed. The AR made the right call in putting his flag up, and I applaud the referees having a conference to make the right call.
Now, onto Marietta's first goal that was "controversial."
Marietta's sweeper played a long ball into the box. The center referee was in a position where he could also watch offsides, to see when the Marietta players broke towards to goal and watch for fouls. I was sitting at the top of the stadium, and can say that the Marietta player who received the ball was in fact onsides when the ball was played, however when he received the ball, he was in an offsides position. There is no foul there - he was onsides when the ball was played, that is when offsides occurs, when the ball is played, not when it is received. The AR immediately threw his flag up when the Marietta player received the ball, and at that point in time, the Chillicothe players made a huge, but not uncommon, mental mistake that player's make - they did not continue to play until the whistle was blown. The Chillicothe defense and goalkeeper stood while the Marietta player knocked the ball into the goal - the center referee at no time blew his whistle, so the ball is still in play. An AR's flag going into the air DOES NOT stop play. Again, I applaud the referees for meeting to make the right call. The center referee exlained to the AR that he too was watching the Marietta players and that the player was onsides when the ball was played. The right call was made.
Yes, a very unlucky break for Chillicothe, but players must play until the whistle is blown. But to say that Marietta was given the win by the referees or to bash the referees for making what turned out to be the right call is not right. That takes away from what I thought was a great soccer match between 2 good schools and programs, and diminshes how hard the Marietta players were working on that evening for the win.
Thank you Marietta and Chillicothe for a great soccer match.
