Waverly Stadium Project
Re: Waverly Stadium Project
How much is each project costing (visitor locker room, field house, home bleachers)? I was surprised to read more funding was still needed even with the sale of the North School property. That was a sizable chunk of change.
Re: Waverly Stadium Project
i thought they had the money for phases 1 and2 before the sale of the property.bengalfan76 wrote:So are you saying Capital ATM is building your Fieldhouse by themselves?smurray wrote:I didn't see a thread on this yet, sorry if there is.
Capital ATM and Pepsi the latest in major contributions. Capital ATM has agreed to fund the Field House project, Pepsi with a $40,000 donation towards the stadium and a $1,500 per year academic scholarship for 10 years.
The Field House and Stadium were going to built in separate phases (years 1 and 2) but now it looks like both will be built before next season. Can't wait to see more activity as the bleachers are ready to come down it all becomes a reality.
Re: Waverly Stadium Project
I did too Smack. ???
Ground work has begun for the home bleachers. Visitor locker room construction is progressing, sewer lines installed. Hopefully people will get excited again once they see some progress being made.

Re: Waverly Stadium Project
What's the update, not much visibly going on since the sewer lines were installed? Only 3 months to July 1st and a lot to be done.
Re: Waverly Stadium Project
Another week has went by and nothing going on with the bleachers or field house. When will those projects get started?
Re: Waverly Stadium Project
From what I understand, the bleachers are a very quick process and only take 1-2 weeks to construct, so I wouldn't worry about that. There is still plenty of time to get everything complete, but it doesn't sound like the contractor has taken advantage of the warm and dry "winter" that just passed. The really time consuming part of the process is getting all of the final touches complete inside the locker room and press box.
Re: Waverly Stadium Project
Any update on the construction project? Any idea when they may get started on the field house?

Any update on the construction project?
As an addendum to this question, is there any chance the new facility
will be a no go come football season, and the Tigers wind up playing
home games Saturday nights at Piketon? Mentioning money and the
WSD is an always iffy proposition. Chesapeake seemed to have a sure
bet on their project but it apparently has fallen through.

Re: Waverly Stadium Project
Just saw in the Chillicothe Gazette there will be a special board meeting today at 6:00p.m. to discuss construction options. I am so confused, thought the bleachers and field house were funded and ready to go, to be completed by July 1. Can anybody give us a heads up on the what's going on?

Re: Waverly Stadium Project
Little late for special board meetings when you've already bulldozed the bleachers...
Re: Waverly Stadium Project
GOINDIANS, everyone knows you hate Waverly so do us all a favor and keep your Waverly bashing to yourself.
Does anyone have a report from the board meeting last night?

Re: Waverly Stadium Project
Word is the home bleachers have been ordered, won't take long to install once they are on site.
The Visitors lockeroom (beside the visitor bleachers) is about 80% complete.
Bids for the field house will be accepted and opened in two weeks.

With rumors and speculation swirling in the community about the Waverly High School stadium project, the Waverly Board of Education met in a special section Tuesday night to continue moving forward with the project.
Although it can’t be seen from the street or outside of the stadium, carpentry and electrical students from the Pike County Career Technology Center have been busy renovating the old storage building into a visitors’ locker room, which is Phase 1 of the project.

When the home bleachers were demolished in December, it also eliminated a visitors’ locker room and concession stand that were housed there.
“We are remodeling the storage shed to allow it to become a locker room facility,†explained Waverly Assistant Superintendent Roger Ramsey. “The main idea was for visitors to use it on game night. It will also be put to use by our teams during practice sessions. This work is being achieved with a combination of people. We have worked with students and staff from the CTC doing carpentry and electrical work. That has been a savings to us on the labor side of it. Although it is a remodel, we had to install water and heat the building.â€
According to Superintendent Cheryl Francis, the money for that portion of the project came from the sale of the former West Elementary school property (currently the home of the Pike County Senior Citizens Center) and donations.
“We’re probably about 75 percent done on that and our assumption would be that by the end of May, it should be complete,†said Ramsey. “There might still be some cosmetic work left, like painting, but the labor should be complete.â€
Phase 2 of the project is the installation of new home bleachers.
“The bleachers went through the bid process and are being financed through the sale of property and donations. Site work is underway now for that with the ground and fill work. It will be started within a couple of weeks,†said Ramsey. “The bleacher installation itself should start in June. Once started, there is about a four-week time period to be completed. We expect bleachers to be in place before the end of July.â€
The largest part of the discussion at the school board meeting Tuesday night surrounded Phase 3, which is the construction of the field house.
“The board met to help finalize plans to begin the third phase of the project, the field house, and to meet with Mr. Ross regarding his donation of providing the field house,†said Francis. “We haven’t started discussion on the final phase which would be the field and track areas. We still need donations to finish the project off.â€
While details are still being finalized with Kevin Ross and Landmark Properties LLC about his donation for constructing the field house, Phase 3 should get underway in the coming weeks.
According to Ramsey, the field house will be dedicated more to the home team and our variety of teams that we have here. It is combined with a concession stand.
“The board had really turned their attention to get the bleachers and had a big hope of getting the field house, but we would be stymied to get this going until Kevin Ross made his offer. His donation includes labor and materials. The board was pleasantly surprised for Kevin Ross coming on and get this part of the site going,†said Ramsey.
“Now we are trying to make that work through the process to get that started. If it comes along, there is a possibility that would be ready to serve our people in late August when football is underway.â€
Waverly’s first football game of the season will be played at Piketon, allowing for a little more time before the stadium must be ready for Friday night action. The Tigers will play their first home game against Jackson on Friday, August 31.
Francis explained that money from the sale of property can only be used for permanent improvement.
“The construction of this project falls under permanent improvement. We haven’t used any general fund money. We have only used money from the permanent improvement fund through the sale of the West property and the sale of the North property,†explained Francis.
“Some of the West money was used for other projects. Some of it was used for lighting of the parking lot downtown because it was so poorly lit. We do not have money from the general fund to put toward the project, but we can use the money from sale of properties and that was a way we could provide something for the kids. That was the only way we could find money for the project at all, and that is a drop in the bucket.â€
Donations are still needed for the continuation of the project.
Jeff Davis with the Waverly Athletic Facilities Committee expressed his appreciation to those who have donated so far, including but not limited to Ohio Valley Bank, Landmark Properties LLC and Kevin Ross, Boyer Funeral Home, Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Post 142, the Bolin family and everyone who has given anything to the project.
“It has been a long road but we have fought through it and we are a unified front moving forward. The Waverly Athletic Facilities Committee would like to extend gratitude to the Waverly school board its diligence in staying the course with the project,†said Davis. “Without any setbacks, this phase should be completed by August 31. More donations are

I was told yesterday the field house will not be completed by the first home game. Does anyone know the projected completed date? Seems like a lot of time left to get it done.
