Re: 2009 Warren Football
I think that the Warriors have some true offensive talent, and some flexibility for next year.
All starts in the trenches, though. Without an O-line, no offense lasts long.

Re: 2009 Warren Football
If Pifer is back he will have a solid group of seniors, the up-coming classes have a good solid core of athletes (9th & 8th grade this year.), so the prospects are looking up. If for some reason he does not return, the incoming coach will inherit a group of hungry football players who have tasted success this year. Two games in the woulda/coulda/shoulda column so, heres hoping that whoever it is.....well maybe I had better leave off there. Work hard in the off season, get better, go to camp if you can, there is a brighter future for WHS Football. Believe to Achieve Warriors......

Re: 2009 Warren Football
It's nice to have this much enthusiasm after a season. The Warriors had an upgrade in schedule and, despite this, added a 4th win and earned buckets of respect. The games that they shoulda/coulda will hopefully inspire them to work harder than ever. Playing against playoff caliber teams gives them something to set their sights on too. The talent is on the roster to take yet another step forward next year. Everyone is correct, it will all depend on how hard they work starting now.
There is so much more that can be done in the off-season than actually has been done in years past. The team should try going to camp, having senior led workouts, and scheduling more 7-7 competitions. All of these things can happen without using coaching days.
Well, seems like the community is "talking the talk," we'll see if the team is ready to "walk the walk."
Big. Bad. Blue.

Re: 2009 Warren Football
The Marietta game, was definitely a winnable game.
The Philo and Ironton games, not so much.
The 4-6 was a watershed because they beat Meigs, a playoff team. South, a playoff team in WV, and went undefeated at home. They also staved off mathematical elimination until after week 10, something that hadn't been done since 2001

Re: 2009 Warren Football
And Warren fans everywhere are thrilled about that next STEP.
This season was a STEP, a big one, and hopefully a big step to bigger, better things next fall, like above-.500 records or staving off elimination until after week 11.

Re: 2009 Warren Football
Yeah, but Ports.West really DID go 10-0...check out the playoff sticky in this forum.
It's not impossible.

Re: 2009 Warren Football
Portsmouth West has also played in a State Championship game,
Warren has never been to a playoff game.
Knowing how to win as a program is something you can't just learn how to do in a year, it takes time. Warren is getting there, but they are a ways from being Portsmouth West's caliber.

Re: 2009 Warren Football
I would love to see Warren in a playoff game, but i agree with Swamisez about the fact that it takes time to improve to that level. I have heard that the younger players in the program have confidence in the team and should improve this team a lot in the next few years.
Hardrock,
Warren's wrestling program does speak for itself, and coach Santini definetly had some great teams over the years and it shows. It has been hard in the past to get some most of the wrestling team out to play. Yeah, some of them did play football, but recently there were a lot of good wrestlers who didn't step out onto the field.

Re: 2009 Warren Football
i dont think warren will go 10-0 next year esp with them being in the seoal
they most definatly are growing as a team and making improvments
if they keep thier numbers up and kids in the weight room they could start building a much better program

Re: 2009 Warren Football
I think Warren has the potential to be one of the best teams in the SEOAL. I saw them play Logan this year, and Warren had a slight size advantage. Warren wasn't having circles run around them. There were a few guys that could keep up with Mays and McDaniel. You guys have an all around excellent athletic program for being such a small school, and I think that the success on the Volleyball and Basketball courts may eventually help football put a good one together. Warren makes playoffs sometime in the next half decade

Re: 2009 Warren Football
Pifer is on a Adminstrators contract. These are usually one year for first two to three years. He is AD/Vice-Principal/Head Football Coach. So he wears three hats , you are correct some of the kids really like him, some do not. They like most of the the asst. coach's, not all but most. But you can find this most places.

Re: 2009 Warren Football
Warren's not looking for a new coach.
Pifer's here, and whether or not he's the most popular administrator at the school, Warren is moving forward with him as the AD and head football coach.
Really, some coaching continuity might be just as important as keeping the numbers in the weight room up.

Re: 2009 Warren Football
Just looked at the '09 schedule and saw some new teams. Morgan county and Point pleasant. I know about Morgan but I don't know anything about Point Pleasant. Someone told me that they are in WV. Does anyone know how good they are, who they play, and other things like that?
