How is this team selected? There are some players rom the area I don't see. How aobult Trimbles Katlyn Walton , a four year starter who didn't come out of the games this year as an example?

So how much influence does the coach have? I been told there is a lot of discussion between coaches because not every one see each player. Can a coach have a lot of say in who gets selected from there own team?

Does anybody have the entire list of the all-district teams? As in first team, second team and Honorable Mention? I have asked around and no one seems to have the list so it can published in the various newspapers.

way to go:
a coach has control of who he/she puts up for the honor.
Back in the day when Craig Axline ran the District 13 meetings (not sure who it is now) If your record was 500 or above, you automatically got 1 player on 1st team all district. If you have others to put up, if you were smart, you would bring stats because a lot of those coaches (teams) never see each other during season. At that point it was up to the coach to sell their player, everyone had a turn to speak about the girls they put up. We would go around the room and listen to each coach, make notes if we needed to, ask questions, and so forth. We weren't allowed to vote for our own players, but if you brought stats and proof that your player deserved the honor, the coaches usually respected your opinion.

I agree 100% about the Walton girl. Unbelievable. Not saying anything negative about the others, so don't think there are lines to read between.......just absolutely shocked that she, as a senior, and 4 year varsity player, didn't even get put up.

Too bad not every player on a team can get on the list, otherwise Walton would be on there.
Trimble has three other girls on the list which is a pretty big accomplishment.

But on voting for who gets on there or not, the coach puts up players she/he thinks should get something, and then coaches from the other schools vote. It depends completely on what the coaches from other schools vote on.

Mainetime.....So you are pretty much saying Walton didn't deserve to be on there??? Wow........hopefully I am reading too much into your statement.

Yea, Trimble had 3 girls, but I guarentee it wasn't based on stats. I'm not saying it should be ONLY based on stats, but come on.........they have to come into play at some point. I know for a fact that one of the girls on the list didn't even get that much playing time. Not that she didn't deserve playing time (i believe she did), but facts are facts.

No Im not saying Walton didn't deserve to be on there. She was a great part of Trimble's team. Im just saying that not every one can be on the list, and the coaches (from all schools, not just Trimble's coaches) voted for who they thought should be on the list.

And I don't think basing it only off stats is right. You have to look at team leadership, attitude, and lots of other aspects. And I gurantee that the player you are saying didn't get much playing time was a Team leader with a very positive attitude, no matter what the situation of the game was. So yes facts are facts, and the coaches voted for who they thought should be on the All-District team.

The coaches should have been given Walton as a choice, maybe the votes would have turned out different, or is that what you were afraid of?
I believe I said in my other post that who you put up should not be based ONLY on stats, I said stats should come in to play.
And, I am very familiar with the voting process..and the politics.

mainetime, was walton not put on the list for the other coaches to vote on? Was there a limit for how many players the coach could put up for voting?

Mainetime you are crazy if you dont thing walton has all the above as you were mentioning in your post...
she was a FOUR YEAR starter...wow...from what ive seen how was she capable of playing all that time, put the minutes together and she has way more game time then any other player on that court for the tomcats. if the coach thot she was worthy of that game time then she definately deserves the chance to be voted on..get real mainetime

If various coaches have not had the opportunity to observe several of the girls play, wouldn't stats have an immense influence on their decisions? If that is the case, then why wouldn't they pick a senior athlete with better stats than the others that have been selected?
Just Curious.

ikad: Good point. Is there any other team in the district that has a four year starter that is NOT on their all district selection? Sounds like me someones trying to pass the buck for the choices given by saying it was the other coaches.

Mainetime: I can tell by your post that you must be close to the staff of Trimble. My question is how can you play that much with out having the correct attitude, leadership and other aspects that you mention. BY the way ,in no way am I taking anything from those selected. They're great kids. I just don't understand how you could treat a player like that.

Hey Hey Hey, Calm down.
Im not saying Walton isn't a good player, just that the voting has already happened and she didn't make the list. There were a lot of names put on the board at the meeting, Walton included. I don't know why she wasn't voted on, maybe her stats weren't impressive as everyone thinks, or the other coaches overlooked her, I don't know.

And no, Im not close to the staff at Trimble. Wrong school, sorry. I watched alot of volleyball games this year though, and there were ALOT of potential picks for this honor. I'm not saying Walton didn't deserve the award, but what other Trimble kid should of had to give theres up?
