Re: Scores and Updates Week 4
18-6 for me this week, but I did make up 2 games on the leader since they lost 8.

When Frontier lost to Buckeye Trail last week by a score of 32-6, I knew that Frontier was really bad.A-Town Big Dog wrote:Really classy effort on the part of the Alex coaching staff I see.thebearupthere34 wrote:(3-0) Alexander 80 (0-3) Frontier 14

Anyone who knows me is well aware that I really take exception to scores like this, as a general rule.
I can tell you this, there was no effort on the part of the Spartans or their coaching staff to "run up the score", so don't jump to conclusions. Frontier is really, really, bad this year. Their defense couldn't stop a falling leaf from hitting the ground. And that is not a stretch. Oh, and I apologize for using an analogy, but there was no other way to describe how bad they are this year. Sorry.

Look, I don't usually complain about scores either, afterall it is the other teams job to stop you and the kids who play late in games deserve a chance to play for their hard work and all. I can see scoring 50 or maybe even 60 but 80 c'mon.Steely Dan wrote:When Frontier lost to Buckeye Trail last week by a score of 32-6, I knew that Frontier was really bad.A-Town Big Dog wrote:Really classy effort on the part of the Alex coaching staff I see.thebearupthere34 wrote:(3-0) Alexander 80 (0-3) Frontier 14

So whats so different with West and Rock Hill? 70-14????
What 10 points? Thats just as bad and no one complains on that!
I personally do not care how much a score can get ran up. But if you're gonna talk class, make sure u include all games like this!

Re: Scores and Updates Week 4
I have to take Steely Dan's word on this one. He's a stand up guy and if he says they didn't appear to be running it up, I have to agree. I've seen situations in a lot of sporting events like this over the years. Unfortunately, sometimes it just happens. I don't have a dog in this fight, but I'm not gonna jump to conclusions either.

Re: Scores and Updates Week 4
Alexander didn't play a starter the 2nd half and kept handing it to the fullback on a dive that would break free. Only other option was to knee it 3 times and punt and I think that would have been more embarrasing. The jv played the entire 2nd half. Alex threw 4 passes the hole game. Frontier lost a ton and they throw the ball a ton, not helping the clock run down when you are getting throttled.
Re: Scores and Updates Week 4
It would be running the score up if the varsity played the entire game, but when the second and third strings play almost the entire second half and it gets that high your playing a bad team. The second and third team practice all week long with the varsity and hardly ever get to play, so when you put them in are you supposed to tell them to go three and out everytime or to take a knee so the final score will look more "classy"? This team has really been turned around in the last few years and its great to see some seo teams espicially athens county teams getting wins.

If Alex sent out its 2nd and 3rd teamers in the second half and still rocked, you can't blame them.

Re: Scores and Updates Week 4
Alexander had all jv and freshman players in the game in the second half......A-town Big dog it happens..... aside from bringing 8th graders in what do you suggest doing? I figured the Spartans would here a bunch of crap for playing till the end with freshman.....................give me a break..............

Okay, I wasn't there and won't see a tv replay of the game so I'll take your word for it guys. If they infact played mostly freshmen and ran dive plays that weren't stopped then so be it, like I said above those kids practice hard all week and deserve a chance also.
Re: Scores and Updates Week 4
I suggest not scheduling a d6 school that you can score 132 point on in 2 years!

Re: Scores and Updates Week 4
I agree with you cavsfan08 on the schedule, hope to play some tougher non league games next season...... But for this season it is what it is and the Spartans will play hard in every game until the last tick of the clock.

Re: Scores and Updates Week 4
From this morning's Marietta Times:
Alexander 80, Frontier 14
NEW MATAMORAS - The Alexander Spartans rolled to victory Friday night, staying perfect on the season.
Alexander stormed past Frontier 80-14 in a road non-conference matchup. The win improves the Spartans' record to 4-0, while Frontier falls to 0-4.
There was little doubt about this outcome, as Alexander led 55-14 at halftime.
Tyler Smith led the offensive onslaught. He rushed for 198 yards on 10 carries for three touchdowns. Smith averaged 19.8 yards per rush.
Quarterback Trey Bennett was next in line, gaining 117 yards on seven carries and three touchdowns as well. Benton Milum chipped in 71 yards on just six attempts as the starters were long gone from the contest by the second half.
Bennett was 3-for-4 passing for 22 yards and one touchdown. He threw a 4-yard scoring pass to Braden Jones.
The win continues a hot streak to start the season for Alexander, which has outscored its opponents 218-42 so far.
The Spartans will stay on the road this week with a game against River Valley.
Turnovers have a way of leading to points.

Can't have it both ways. I remember many of you grilling the Waterford coach and I can tell you that the Southern team they beat was just as bad if not worse that this.Steely Dan wrote:When Frontier lost to Buckeye Trail last week by a score of 32-6, I knew that Frontier was really bad.A-Town Big Dog wrote:Really classy effort on the part of the Alex coaching staff I see.thebearupthere34 wrote:(3-0) Alexander 80 (0-3) Frontier 14

ROCK HILL-14
4TH
LAST 3 TD’S FROM WEST JV & FRESHMAN
Just a little clarification on the West game! I pray that the young man from Rock Hill is ok and able to return shortly!
If Alexander played their younger kids it would make some sense. Why are these two playing each other anyway............Alexander has twice as many boys as Frontier!

That was girl's basketball, 110-12 and he trapped and pressed the entire game. Know what you are talking about before you try to start an argument. And I will quote myself from my post above:
"Anyone who knows me is well aware that I really take exception to scores like this, as a general rule."
Two different sports, two different situations. Apple and orange comparison, that has no merit.
If you are going to try and label me a hypocrite, you are going to have to try harder than this.
