Ironton cruises to an easy win! NL is small, no strength and will get worn down by halftime. Ironton will pound the ball down the Panthers throats all night. NL has no run defense and are slow to react to the pass. Ironton wins big!

Ironton - 40
NL - 7 :)

I don't know where everybody is getting an easy Tiger victory or that we are overlooking this team. Cal preps has New Lex winning 21 - 20 and JJ Huddle site has New Lex winning by six. Both computer generated. So I don't think the players or coaches will overlook this team. The small quick teams have given us trouble the past few years and passing teams (esp. with a running qb) have given us trouble. So going in Ironton looks to be the underdog. Hopefully we get a couple breaks with turnovers and a rainy and windy night making it hard to pass. Good Luck Tigers!!!

Why didn't Westfall just hit us hard and strip it out easy in the 2nd half? Also, why would we take anybody lightly in the 2nd round of the playoffs? Where do you get your info? SEOPS? I'm sorry but I think New Lex and Sheridan are both good teams but not great teams. Make a note of this: Ironton will beat New Lex in a good game and Chilli will beat Sheridan on a dry field next week. That wet and sloppy game early in the year took away Chilli's speed. It will be different if there's a next time. Tri-Valley and John Glenn gave Sheridan a run for their $ and they are both down. Logan would wax everyone in the MVL and we moved the ball pretty well on them.

Scouting tip for New Lex: We are going to run it right at you. Hope that helps.

Wow, where to begin?....

First of all,the rain didn't help Sheridan any. In case you didn't know or get the memo, they throw the ball pretty darn good, just as Franklin, not that they needed to against Chillicothe. Trust me, the rain took Sheridan's speed away also and they have a boat load of it. Sheridan would beat Chilli by an even bigger margin if they play next week on a dry field. To say Sheridan, the Number one team in their region and the STATE is not a great team is just a ignorant comment from an ignorant person.

Next, If Tri-Valley wasn't d-2 they would be in the playoffs at 7-3. I don't know about you, but to have a down year at 7-3 is pretty darn good. If you don't remember Tri-Valley did beat Logan last season and ALMOST beat Louisville who i predict will beat Logan by at least 14.

Next, they only reason the John Glenn and Sheridan game was close was because Sheridan had 4 fumbles and still found a way to win! John Glenn scored 21 of their 24 points off of Sheridans to's. Great teams don't always win pretty, they just win. Also their down season was 6-4 and gave Martins Ferry all they could handle.

Finally, running the ball right at New Lex isn't going to help much. What do you think they do in the MVL? It is a true smash-mouth league and they are probably tickled pink you're going to run the ball at them.

Look folks, however you want to slice it, it's going to be a very good game between two good teams. All of these blowout predictions are rediculus. It will be decided within 10 points and could go either way.

my predicition though it means squat.

The problem with that is it is easier said than done. Also for the guy saying Logan would run through the MVL they are a D2 school the mvl is mostly D3 and D4. I also remember Logan playing a New Lex team a few years ago... Logan was on a like a 26 regular season game win steak and NL man handled them. MOST Ironton fans aren't giving NL any credit and I can't wait to see how this Friday turns out!

NLPanther most people making ridiculous predictions from what I can tell are not from Ironton. Some posters need to get over it. Most are posting if we clean up mistakes we can hang in there and squeek by. I have respect for your program but I am going to predict an Ironton win. If I didn't think they could win I wouldn't drive 45 miles to watch them get beat. Good luck to both teams and lets have a clean injury free game.

You'll be having Jason and Kevin in your home as they make you feel like you are at the game. Best I have ever heard, at any level these are!

Thanks Kantucky. I posted the link on the MVL Forum.

Well stated, tigergrad95. You don't find any easy "W's" in the second round of the Ohio playoffs. Teams are there for a reason. The New Lex spread will be tough to defend, but hopefully, the Ironton offense will display some of its abilities as well. New Lex's defense has been more consistent over the course of the year, but the halftime defensive adjustments of Coach Lutz and his staff are legendary over the years in I-Town. The team that makes the least mistakes should come out on top.

For those who like to mess with the numbers, I stumbled onto a Massey Ratings site for high school football that predicts this game New Lex 24, Ironton 16. Interestingly, the same site predicted a 37-23 triumph of Ironton over Westfall last week, so that gives it at least some credibility. Other interesting numbers from the site:

* - Ironton is given a 27.3% chance of winning Friday

* - Ironton's odds of winning the State Championship are listed at 55,531 to 1; New Lex is 1,730 to 1; Coldwater is 2 to 1; Alter is 4 to 1; Mooney is 9 to 1; and Steubenville is 14 to 1.

* - Ironton is rated 23 out of 32 teams in the D-IV field; New Lex is 10; Westfall is 30; Coldwater is 1.

* - Only 4 teams have an easier path to the State Championship game than Ironton; only 1 team has an easier path to the State Championship game than New Lex. (I think that this prediction is due to the fact that both teams play in the relatively weaker Southeast District.)

Here is the link to the site: http://www.highschoolsports.net/hs-football/

As we used to say back in my days, "Rip 'em up, tear 'em up, give 'em Hades, Tigers!" (At least, almost!)

Some of these serious posts are just stupid. Tri-Valley has what I think to be the best offence in the MVL. They should have beaten Sheridan but there was a questionable call at the very end. Clay got hurt vs New Lex and didn't play to the full potential that game or it could've been different. Logan int he MVL goes anywhere from 9-1 to 7-3. Sheridan beats Chili by 42 if there is no rain, really dumb post.

Here's a tip for iTown: Run it at us, be our guest. Line up in double-tight and pound it pound it pound it! We'll be glad to stop it. Ironton has a very great program and have been a force to rekon with, but don't think this is one of those teams. 7-3 means they lost 3 games, the storied teams of iTown go 10-0, or 10-0, maybe 9-1.

A lost thought. If you wan to fight about o-lines and size vs speed go to our forum and fight coldawg. He'll win because he's a TV fan who averaged 290-300 lbs across the line. But then ask him who has the better line, NLs speedy line or TVs big one. I'd take NLs line over iTowns.

ironton rolls big over new lex. we've cut our teeth on big teams. that is the history of the tigers, they are big and mean. and healthy and hungry. glad they don't play these games on the computer, because it CANNOT MEASURE THE HEART OF AN IRONTON FIGHTING TIGER IN PLAYOFF MODE. DOWN GOES NEW LEX, NEXT.

Congratulations to Ironton fullback Keith Wetzel, recognized on the statewide
Ohio State Buckeyes Radio Network Tuesday evening, during the "Buckeye
Roundtable" program, as the Motorists Insurance Ohio High School Player of
the Week.

Wetzel and the Ironton program were saluted by Ohio State Buckeyes Radio
Network play-by-play voice Paul Keels. Wetzel's five touchdown, 159-yard
performance vs. Westfall, in Ironton's 41-31 victory in the first round playoff
game was selected for the recognition on the Buckeyes Radio Network show,
which airs weekly on most OSU Sports Radio Network affiliates.

That is correct. You could be from Waverly, New Boston, Clemson, Missouri, LSU, or another school that has a Tiger as a mascot.

Thats great for Wetzel and Ironton to get props on their win and effort on friday night. Usually southern Ohio doesnt get their props on a show like that. Hopefully that wont be the last time this season that it happens.

Read Close most people is what I said. I do believe you have some on here predicting a big win also. You can't take this personally. As a matter of fact in this game we are the underdog
