be respectful to our coaches- they are human and yes do they make mistakes- and oh by the way if you would try standing up and cheering for our kids {if you dont} instead of staying in your seats it would certainly help boost the kids and staff on those 3rd and long or 4th and 1- i am impressed with our staff and kids- and remember they are human. It's awful easy to sit in the stands and criiticize, try supporting its much easier.

Point is-coulda shoulda wouldas are always going to be brought up, but usualy only seem to count for the losing team. This game was as expected by 16-18 year olds.Your gonna have missed opportunities. But, as we all know, only one team can win, and the team that didnt always has the coulda shoulda woulda defense. This was a great HS game played by a lot of determined kids. Good Luck Lions!
bigdaddy... didn't want to make my post sound wrong cause LU's D was the best defense we've faced this season. I was very impressed with the containment on the corners and their speed pursuing the football. In my post I was just trying to point out that missed opportunities cost W'Burg big last night. In the last 2 weeks W'Burg has had at least 6-7 opportunities to score near or in the red zone and came up empty handed. Can't win many tight playoff games doing much of that.
I agree 100% that both teams left it all on the field with my son being a part of it. We are truely blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of this atmosphere and watch this great game at such a great facility.
As I said before Good Luck LU in your quest for a state championship.

Re: Round 2 Wheelersburg vs. Liberty Union at Jackson
The biggest fan Wheelersburg has is their new English teacher...that is sad...that man stood cheering for his students and friends all the way to the end while people walked out with 5 minutes to go...when he asked why a man he was leaving the guy just turned around and said Coach Woodward was a d**khead...I returned the insult back but he didn't seem to want to go anywhere with it...wuss...It's fans like him that disgrace the Wheelersburg name...hope he never goes to another game...and if he is on here then I'd love to have a little chat with him.
I sat the whole game listening to people bad mouth the players and coaches calling them terrible names and saying how embarrassing their play was....Sure Coach Woodward makes mistakes but who's to say he made any during that game? We don't know what the game plan was and if we would have won then no one would say much...Only a select few of us in the stands would make mediocre coaches let alone go 9-2 our first year. Craigmiles should have been used more but people are just taking his lack of offensive play overboard...that's not the reason we lose nor is his play the reason we win...shut up about Schankweiler not passing to open recievers...he doesn't have the arm strength to accurately throw the ball 40yds to Stegman or anyone else while rolling out...if he could he would. I heard people complain about how poor the tackling was and I would have to agree that at some points our tackling was terrible but then you hear someone shouting curse words at the players calling them an embarrassment and failure...gee wiz we get into arguments on here about how West and Burg players are so unsportsmanlike toward eachother...I wonder where they all get it from???
Great job Pirates on another great season...Im glad I got to come down and watch my friends play again; it's always a pleasure...to next years seniors: Pay no attention to the fans and the community...Coach Lewis was right--the community will be there to pat you on the back and then stab it when you lose.

Careful about lumping everyone together. Some were just hurting at losing what they felt was a very winnable game and were taking the frustration out on here. On careful consideration, they will settle down and realize that they don't really mean half of what they say.
And sometimes the most ignorant criticize the loudest. Take it with a grain of salt. Some people have egos that needs to be inflated by kids winning a game. And when it doesn't happen, they feel cheated. Truth of the matter is that the players and coaches owes the community/school only to put forth their best effort with good sportsmanship. They don't owe anyone but themselves anything more--certainly not winning.
And the (mostly silent) majority are very proud of them and their effort this year and every year.
I, for one, was standing up the whole game, and did not leave until after the last play was played.

Not everyone falls into that catagory but the things some people say are just sad

THAT we can agree on.
"Lord grant me the courage to change the things that should be changed, accept the things that can not be changed and the wisdom to know the difference."
We can only control our own responses and through those try to make the world better. We can't make other people be good people.
It is a life lesson, kind of like:
"Age does not guarantee wisdom. Young fools sometimes just become old fools."
But I will point out again that there are a lot of people in this and any community that cares about the kids over and above how they play in a game. You just won't hear them on a site like this. These sites attract the more vocal fringe.
Re: Round 2 Wheelersburg vs. Liberty Union at Jackson
One thing that struck me this season was how few fumbles this team had. They averaged 0.5 fumbles a game.
They had two in the first game against Ironton and two in the Greenup game. They fumbled on the first possession of the Valley game and then there was the ball knocked loose when the QB went back to pass in the Northwest game and that was it. Six fumbles in 12 games.
Gee, I have seen teams fumble six times in one game...
I would think that number may well fall in the top ten seasons on that stat-if anyone actually keeps that statistic.
Also someone needs to submit Scott Walker's 98 (really 99) yard TD run at Greenup to the record book. Even at 98 yards, it will get him in the top 25 in Ohio.

People know that the players parents and the cheer block are always going to stand up, therefore they shouldn't sit behind those areas. That's just my opinion though.

I agree with you about the cheer block and parents but I would feel bad if I made a person with bad knees stand the entire time

Why do people fell they need to stand up during the game? Does it make you cheer louder? I've never ever understood that concept. Now don't get me wrong, I've stood up when a big play is about to happen or when a big play does happen, but I have never just stood up for no apparent reason, just to watch the game. There was a couple that sat down about two rows in front of where I was at and they wanted to stand the entire game. Why? Are you going to tell me they couldn't see because I know I sure could from where I was at.
I read back through some of the post on here that was put on after the game and with alot of it I have to agree with. For one, I never saw any one mention or put down any of the kids on here. If people were saying stuff about the kids as they were leaving, than yes, they are idiots. That is uncalled for and should not be tolerated.
Burg has nothing to be ashamed of. They played hard and left it all on the field. Coach Woodward is a young head coach and hopefully he will learn as time goes on. I'm sure he would be the first to admit that he made some mistakes, but hey, he is human and he will learn.
I know one thing that looking at that Burg roster, wow, are they going to be loaded next year. Throw Tyler Lang back into that mix and they will be strong. Good luck Coach Woodward in the future.

It's like a tradition for the students to always stand, no matter what sport or what is going on, if the team is on the field, the students are on their feet. And i feel that is how it should be... i unserstand about elderly people not being able to see, but there was a whole open section to the far right, and i didn't see anyone care enough to move.

I don't know where this info about shakers or noise makers that annonucer made came from.I personally called OSHAA, myself, about this issue before East's play off game. The reply was any small noise maker was allowed except for bullhorns(I think that is what U call thise big noise makers). It was the call of the HOME field(that would have been Burg)team's manager whether or not noise makers could or could not be used.Of course U can't argue at a ball game with announcers but IMO this belief is a fallacy. As a matter of fact the person I talked to laughed when I asked.Said "you can use any noise makers U want as long as home team manager doesn't object and it is not a big horn".Didn't state it was limited to a certain number either.
Re: Round 2 Wheelersburg vs. Liberty Union at Jackson
The sun came up on Sunday Morning and Today! Sat night-Not the outcome that anyone from Burg wanted and with some better play calling and adjustments in the second half, who knows the outcome. I have watched for the last seven years not able to get past Regional Semi and Finals, with great Burg teams. At times, Burg is too predictable. Not saying anything that the coaches and players don't already know. Burg expects to get to state in every sport, Nothing wrong with having great expectations, that is what gets you there year after year. That is what keeps younger players, playing harder. Since the West game, I just feel like there were plays that were not used to maybe make a first down. 14 yards in the second half is not Burg football. All of us know that. Make the adjustments and get to the state finals. I have no doubt it will happen in football in the future.
I have heard some say this was suppoe to be a down year, I say, where did that come from? an excuse that some use? Burg has no down years. Yes, number down with seniors, but never a down year. On a side note, Jordan and Bryan are the only seniors that have been together in school since preschool at ND. Bryan has played football since 2nd grade, and I will have to say, he has improved tremdously since his Rough Riders Days! lol! It is gonna take a long time to get over never seeing him in a football uni again!
Congratulations to the entire Burg football team, cheerleaders, band, students and coaches on a great season. Have thoroughly enjoyed each and every minute of the last seven years. If you seniors left it on the field each and every game, then you did your job as seniors and were great leaders to the younger players. My family will miss watching #13 in a Burg uni, but will enjoy many more wins by the Pirates.
Should we even be talking about people sitting/standing, cheering or not cheering. True Burg fans do what it takes to support their teams, sons, daughters, coaches. Stay clear of those fans that you already know cheer and stand the entire game and sit with the ones that you already know that just sit the entire game. True Burg fans that come each and every Friday night, know who we are and you know where we sit-lol! True Burg fans cheer each and every play! BUT, we appreciate each and every person that chooses to take time out to come out and watch the PIRATES!
My only comment on the noise makers is this, the rule had not changed from the seven years I have watched a playoff game. No air horns. Burg fans where told this by the AD from the beginning of playoffs every year, JUGS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ALLOWED. Not sure how it got changed at the game other than our leader in charge not finding our AD and getting it resolved with the announcer. I doubt it would have changed the outcome of the game. And, a penalty has to be called by the refs, not by a city sheriff. Anyway, it is over and someone was able to control the situation so good for them.
Thanks for the memories #13 and the entire Burg community!

Savor each moment when this comes because it too, passes way too quickly.
