What are Minfords weakness from last year going into next year?
What are the strengths they had last year going into next year?
For me, I looked only at the two losses to see what happened.
Against West, we seemed over powered and out muscled. Which means we need to lift harder to get bigger and stronger.
Against, Burg 2x's, not much except, I wonder about the mind set of the players? Did they believe they would beat the burg or had that, here we go again, mind set when burg tied it up both times?
I would like to see Minford cont working on speed too. Do they have a speed camp during the summer they attend? I heard the Burg does.
I dont think the right philosophy here is to mimic what Burg does.
Kids will get faster in the weightroom. They should have jump rope stations, etc., to work on some agility exercises to offset the straight strength exercises.
Against West, they got thrown around. West had a boatload of seniors that were going up against a pile of Juniors and Sophomores at Minford. West's line was having their way with Minford up front that was setting up huge downfield blocks. When you can get a lineman on a cornerback 10 yards downfield, the cornerback is not going to make the play.
Against Burg, it was poor tackling and turnovers game #1, and it was turnovers and quickness up front on the line in game #2.
A year of experience will be the key. Minford returns alot on both sides of the ball next year. The main thing they lacked in 08 was age and experience.
The strength they should carry over to next year is the amount of juniors and sophmores that got a ton of playing time this year and will be ready to go next year. They should have 3-4 very nice backs, a solid QB and a solid group of WR's on offense next year. I think they will be a bit more explosive on offense and should score alot of points.
