I am sure the AD at Minford (Parkes) would be glad to speak to you concerning thism, if you are that concerned with the football schedule.

From what iv'e heard this is how it goes...

River Valley Away
Wellston Home
Huntington Ross Home
Coal Grove Away
Oak Hill Away
Wheelersburg Home

The change was to break up the three w's.

I wouldn't be suprised if two maybe three of those teams make the playoffs out of the first five games. It was good enought last year to get to the playoffs and with each of those teams improving I suspect that even more points will come from it.

I agree this years strength of schedule should be stronger than last years with almost all the teams improving.

Minford should be very solid this year. Definitely should be a playoff team, could make a run. They return Oesch, McCormick, Sloan, etc. They should be very dynamic in the backfield and have a solid line.

West returns several good players and should field a solid team, although they lost alot this year, they will be tough to beat.

Burg brings back tons at the skill positions, they should be much improved this year.

Valley has alot of talent coming back, and they played Minford and Burg tough last year.

Waverly has Roback, and if you cant stop him you are going to have fits keeping points off the board.

Should be a good race for the SOC championship this year for sure. There will be alot of great games.

Uh, burg lost RB-Shankwiler and White at fullback, I wouldn't say a ton is back. I heard Lang was going to WR. So, he lost out at QB?

they still return alot of skill players, and, even in the rebuilding years, they seem to have a solid team and exceed expectations.

Lang, shank, Cmiles, walker, thats a pretty good group of returning skill players. 7 returning starters on O, 8 returners on D and lang coming back on both D and O after missing the last 11 games in 08. I don't think I would classify 09 as a rebuilding yr for the burg.

Glad to see Minford picked up scrimmages with Portsmouth and East. Although i did beleive South Point was a good scrimmage, Unioto was not so good.

Cmiles and Walker didn't impress me that much. They never really got that many touches to say how good they really are. We keep hearing about C.miles having all this speed for two years now but it seems like he never gets the ball but 5 times a game? Lang, will have to wait and see if he is the same as before. Shank can run but he isn't a passing threat. Minford returns: 4 RB, QB, TE, 2-WR's who all played alot. They are deep at skill positions.

shank's passing will improve, everyone forgets he was only a soph last yr. Anyone that has watched cmiles on D knows how fast he is. He showed his speed on offense in the west game. I forgot to mention adkins, him and walker split a lot of time on offense last yr.

Who is Wheelersburg going to have to pound the ball as their FB? I read where people think kids like the FB/MLB White are a dime a dozen at the Burg, but I think he'll be missed. The other backs have alot of speed but being able to throw 10-15 body blows into another teams D-line is very important come the 4th quarter.

After watching the games on the zone this is what I thought won the two games these two played. Minford had their chances in both but didn't know how to seal the deal. White sealed it by pounding the ball which opened up holes for the other backs as Minford's D-line looked tired by the 4th quarter. Without White or a kid like him that can wear on a D-line I really don't see the other backs being a factor. One can have speed to get on the edge but a fresh defense will fence to the sideline with ease.

If Minford has everyone returning and all but one on offense were Jrs and Sophs they'll be tough, but they must get mentally disciplined enough to seal the deal and play 4 quarters of football to win the "big game," or it's going to be the same old same old.

My thoughts exactly. Minford has lost the last three to Burg by 7 points and I say they lost on mental toughness and not the difference in skill of players or who was in better shape. This year, it's at Minford.

Id have to agree but disagree also on that, in Daniels first year as head coach i believe burg was more talented but Minford's mental toughness is what made that year, that wasn't the most athletic senior class but they played tough and as a team.

Minford will have a lot of skill players left, but for a team predictated on the run they will have to build a line, which was were the most losses were this year. I think they return 2 lineman?

that was the most confusing thing about Minford last year. They had good size/skill and the amount of players were impressive, but for a team that I had read about their huge weightroom numbers for 2 years they seemed extremely weak up front. A West team that other than Sparks wasn't real big up front completely dominated at the point of attack. As the 4th quarter rolled around of a still close ballgame, they looked to roll over and give up, completely out of gas. Lifting is one thing, but they really need to look into what their doing.

I have a cousin who is on the team. I was told that after this group of seniors is gone, Minford will probably be down for a while. I know Sloan is really good in the junior to be class but I don't know what else. Watching their freshman class they really weren't that talented besides the Gaines kid. I hope not, I like to see good competition in the league.
