East I think you can add Ricky Henderson to the list...kid was a hard nosed runner, instead of being fancy and losing yards trying to dodge one tackler would just flat out run through him to gain the extra yard.
I also think you can add while he was at Notre Dame...Doug Mottoven(I know spelling is more than likely wrong) before he transfered to Northwest.

"D" Brunton, Oak Hill in the mid 90's. He was a ball control, power type back. He helped the Oaks use ball control to win over such teams as Nelsonville-York and Greenfield McCLain.

Based strictly on stats, what was A.Henderson's stats from East? 2G? But competition was low.

Re: BEST SOC1 RB'S PAST 20 YEARS?
You need to look a little further back.......
Tim Love-East. Blazing speed and once he got outside no one could catch him. Leading back for 1983 SOC Champs and leading rusher in the area. Perennial State track meet qualifier in the 100, 200 and 400. Tied the track record in an invitational meet at Minford in 1983 or 1984 with a 10.7 100M. I know no one who has even been close since then.
Tom Bowman- Notre Dame. Flat ran over people on the football field and lead the area in rushing I believe. Went on to play at WVU.
These two, plus Danny Reid from Portsmouth are the best backs I have seen in the area...well that and Eli Parkes from Minford. Parkes has about every rushing and scoring record at Minford.

The best SOC 1 running back of all-time was Tom Bowman (Notre Dame) I think he graduated in 1981.
He went on to be a captain at WVU.

Re: BEST SOC1 RB'S PAST 20 YEARS?
I always thought that Tim Maxey (sp?) - Notre Dame - was one of the fastest kids I ever saw from southern ohio and in SOC I. After he graduated from college and had major knee surgery I personally watched him outrun Aaron Hall from West in the 40 yard dash in practice one day. And Aaron could flat out fly.
Re: BEST SOC1 RB'S PAST 20 YEARS?
SV class of 86' Sylvester Bloomfield 2200+ yrds and I think it was 24 or 26 td's, District back of the year. I believe he still owns the state squat record for a 185 pound kid.
Re: BEST SOC1 RB'S PAST 20 YEARS?
Green's Rob Maynard and Shane Salyers both rushed for over a 1,000 yards
in both 1989 and 1990 seasons. Green won the SOC I both years and made it
to the second round of the playoffs. in D-V. back then it only went to D-V
and only the top 4 teams in each region made the playoffs.

Tom Bowman was not only the best SOC 1 back, but maybe one of the best ever from Scioto County. also think he won state high jump. Green: Joe Gibson. 1700+ yards.

Re: BEST SOC1 RB'S PAST 20 YEARS?
Jennas daddy,
Joe Gibson actually rushed for over 1800 yards, I can't think of the exact number right now. I will have to ask one of the brothers. I believe for regular season this is still the record for Scioto County. I know some want that honor to go to JoJo Parker of Portsmouth, but he had to go into the playoffs to go passed Joe Gibson.
I also liked the Rodeheffer(sp) on the basketball site.

I forgot to mention that Rob and Shane were great backs from Green. They also had great lines in front of them both years. They were without a doubt the best backfield combo Green has ever had.

I agree withBoonedwag about Sly! But Symmes Valley was in the OVC then!

Joe Gibson - Green
Bowman - ND
Reid - Ptown
Bowman and Gibson played in the same time frame. ND beat Green pretty bad in 1981? Both guys were freaks of nature!

Nothing against these guys, but Bowman ran over people and this was back when Notre Dame played (and beat) Wheelersburg, West, etc. We're talking somewhere around the 1978-1980 seasons I believe. It really is tough to compare eras because the Easts and Notre Dames of today do not face near the caliber of teams they did 25-30 years ago or more. Heck going back to 1960 East OWNED everyone in Scioto County. I think a better method would be to break it out by decades (60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and 00's).

bobby
joey gibson ran for 1767 yards his senior yr - it was on the football that used to be on display in the basketball gym concession area. i always remember looking at the main display with the best trophys/etc.... I always thought that Joey was underrated even with all those yards - because Green could NOT pass and he didn't have any help in the backfield really (unless you count mulkey, who wasn't a bad fb, or "WAYNE" showalter, a definite east/west runner..lol ). I was too young to know if the o line was worth much (maybe flash or hoot can help).
The other teams defense would put 8 or 9 in the box - cause green had 2 plays
1. joey left
2. joey right
i remember as a kid sitting in the stands with my buds and we would bet - left or right! good memories!
