Re: 1982 Southern Tornadoes
Southern had:
(1) Great Players
(2) Great Tradition
(3) A hall of fame coach
(4) a great program
These are 4 things you do not possess at Trimble. A more resonable goal for you would be 10 and 10 and possibly winning 1 tournament game.

While I agree that kdawg is majorly misguided, I think it is interesting that he wants to learn from the past at Racine. PP, did you play at SHS?

I too feel like you' re not being fair to koondogger, I had just moved into the area and often wondered about that season (well actually 80-82)..
So some stories would be nice.

I remember in 1981 Racine beat Southeastern by a point in 1 or 2 ot's. Racine thought it was such a big win they cut down their own nets! It was SE's only loss besides the state semi's. That was a huge rivalry back then.

koondogger if you don't think what southern did in 80-82 was spectacular you must really think what trimble did this year in football was nothing.they weren't even close to almost state champs.

Re: 1982 Southern Tornadoes
True, but much more recent. 1982 was as the song says, "a long long time ago..."
pp, your word "had" rings a lot of truth... No need to knock the Trimble players though. I think they have some pretty good players. And since they have won some TVC championships as opposed to Southern winning none, I would say they have a little more current tradition than Southern. The same goes for the program. So pp a realistic goal for your team would be to win 1 league title. Of course that will still be less than Trimble. But hey, you have to start somewhere in the modern era.

Tradition-an inherited, established, or customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior....that is the definition of tradition according to webster so i don't know how you can have ''current tradition''

Re: 1982 Southern Tornadoes
Current as in the last 15 years. Traditions are passed on from generation to generation. Since Southern skipped a few generations since they had a winning tradition I figured they werent living on tradition. If you have some tradition, then you field a losing team for say, 15 or 20 years, it is hard to say you still have tradition with a straight face anyway. Trimble has won this decade, so that is why I say theirs is more current, and actually passed on from one group of current players to the next.
Trimble has won TVC championships in this decade in basketball. Something Southern has never done.

smelly, you should stick to the shingle inn and save the basketball talk for people who have a clue.

Come on pp you don't have to get mad every time someone gets one over on you. I think you would speak of your feelings more accurately if you would say that I should leave the basketball talk to those who agree with pp. Sorry the facts don't agree with you. Keep a coach for more than a season or so and you may once again build a tradition in the current era.
Re: 1982 Southern Tornadoes
I don't have a specific story to recount. But I do remember what a special and exciting season it was for the Tornadoes. They were a real life Hoosiers story. Nothing flashy! Just good fundamental basketball. Team play, good screens, good defense, and "Oh my God, Don't fall out of your chair!" They even used the now defunct "Bounce Pass". I remember everyone on my biddy league team was pumped and I was even Kent Wolfe in a couple of backyard games. The hustlin Tornadoes will live in infamy!

Re: 1982 Southern Tornadoes
Cobra, if you are referring to me, then I must ask which coach . Haven't you had like 6 of them in the last 8 or 9 years? No I have no dealings with any Southern coaches. I can just say that the hall of fame coach that someone mentioned, while great 30 years ago, had little success recently. And the asst he had posted a 2-19 record in his last year at Southern. So while those teams 30 years ago are fun to remember, they are from 30 years ago and have no effect on todays teams.
Re: 1982 Southern Tornadoes
I can say that Southern has finnaly got the right coach in place, to hopefully bring back the Southern from the past.
Every team trying to rebuild has to look to the past for inspiration, for Southern it is the 80-82 teams that we look for. For someone that is not from Racine you may not understand what all this means, but for those of us who know, it is something for kids to shoot for and something that is highly respected.

This is a TOTAL LOAD OF CRAP! Unless the new coach has invented the "wayback" machine there is no way to "bring back" the past team unless you are referring to a reunion. Being stuck in the past prevents progress which is the current state of purple and YELLOW basketball.
