I wasn't making any predictions on Logan or Chillicothe but I was not surprised at the other three which I had watched this season. I really felt that West and Wheelersburg combined had one quality non-conference win and that was against Ironton by one point.

I resisted all week putting on here that I would not be surprised to see Wheelersburg and West go down at this level, since I didn't want the kids reading that before the game.

Wheelersburg shot themselves in the foot all night. No adjustments by the coaching staff in the 2nd half hurt them too. I honestly don't think LU was that much better than the Burg, but they made the sdjustments in the 2nd half to win the game and our coaches didn't. The short pass was there all night, but they kept trying to throw 20 to 25 yarders all night that were either picked off or knocked down. Also, Tyler Craigmiles was not used on offense for some reason. It couldn't have been because he was hurt since he played a monster defensive game. Fastest kid on the team and not one toss sweep to him or one pass thrown his way. I just don't understand it.

Would or could it be because they have a much bigger pool of kids to choose from? I mean come on, us in the small towns are limited to who trys out for sports. We have outstanding athletics, but the pool is much smaller.

That has a major effect on how we down here stack up to the city schools or semi-city schools. There is just more kids to choose from plain and simple. Maybe we should combine schools in Scioto County?

No, that is not really true. For example, Liberty Union has about 170 boys in their school. Wheelersburg has about 160. That is why there are divisions. The pool is the same side in Baltimore, Ohio as it is in Wheelersburg, Ohio.......Or in New Lexington as it is in Ironton.

Maybe the pool of kids are the same, but the location of the city schools make it easier for kids to transfer. It would be interesting to see just how many kids have played at the same school from youth through their senior year.

They have a couple of boys that moved in during grade school, but not since junior high or high school. Most of these boys are decendants of those that attended LU - many have whole generations that live within a few miles of them - this is not some transient move in/move out community. Liberty Union is located about 20 miles east of Columbus and is a very rural area. They have many farm boys on the team that understand the concept of working hard. This is only the third time in the history of the school that they have made the playoffs so it is not like they have a lot of history at this!

Ready on the other hand is located in downtown Columbus and is a very small private catholic school. They have a rich history in football and have had some pretty big names go through that school.
