The Wildest play call you have seen a H.S. Coach make?
What is the craziest gadget play you have see used in a high school football game?
Re: THE WILDEST PLAYCALL YOU HAVE SEEN A HS COACH MAKE?
The belly out of the gun without doing anything to get the defense to bump someone out of the box!
and the Polecat! There it is back.

I know a coach who lined up in the polecat for an entire game once. Man that guy was dumb....

Re: THE WILDEST PLAYCALL YOU HAVE SEEN A HS COACH MAKE?
I have known a couple of coaches who found that against some teams the polecat was the only way that they could move the football.
Re: THE WILDEST PLAYCALL YOU HAVE SEEN A HS COACH MAKE?

Maybe it was a desperate move by a desperate man?

If one recall's Tiger Ellison's book, RUN AND SHOOT FOOTBALL: THE NOW ATTACK, the birth of the polecat in Middletown was a deperate act by a desperate man to begin with!

The first time I saw it, it was placed in my hands by a wise old coach who knew -- and still knows -- a Hell of a lot more football than anybody has ever given him credit for.
My own copy has a special place on the shelf, these days.

Hey, Karl!
Have you emailed this to The Vest to see if his Buckeyes can handle the Polecat?

Re: THE WILDEST PLAYCALL YOU HAVE SEEN A HS COACH MAKE?
I saw a team stop the Polecat wiht one defensive player lined up over where all those linemen are with the one back. The defensive player ran through untouched and intercepted the ball for a pick 6. Twice! In a row! The other team gave up on the ole Polecat. They should've spent time on blocking I guess?
Re: THE WILDEST PLAYCALL YOU HAVE SEEN A HS COACH MAKE?
That case is the exception - not the rule. A lot of teams run that as an extra-point wrinkle. The kids are told if the defense doesn't adjust to throw the ball behind the wall automatically. (misplaced modifier)

Re: THE WILDEST PLAYCALL YOU HAVE SEEN A HS COACH MAKE?
I NEVER SAW play calling like I did when Ironton traveled down to Lawrence County, Kentucky in 2004! It was like they knew there was no way in heaven's name that they could beat Ironton so they just started doing the craziest things I have ever seen before! It was so funny! like some kid on the playground was calling plays..'Jimmy, you go up there till you get to the Oak tree and then cut left...Bob..take three steps and turn and I'll hit ya...Mike...run to that big spot in the grass and cut hard to the right
Then..the officials? They tossed about 40 flags on Ironton and not a single one on LC till towards the end of the game when they finally reluctantly sent one up in the air for LC. I'll never forget what one of the chain gang turned and said to me then...he said, 'No, see...there's one for your guys!' He was serious as could be as well! too funny
