Zach is a very good fastball hitter, but he will chase a good curve in the dirt.

Re: Oak Hill Baseball 09'
I was wondering the same thing. Its too bad, they've had some good baseball guys out there, but actions from parents and players tend to lead to these guys walking away.
Re: Oak Hill Baseball 09'
Has Oakhill still not hired a coach?
I would be interested in the position next year. I already teach in another district but only live 12 miles away. Also I would love to have another chance coaching Varsity baseball. Although there would have to be a teaching job available.

Where did Haislop transfer to?
Is former Jackson HC and Oak Hill Asst. Jason Wright not coaching anywhere at all anymore? Good coach with quite a bit of success. Didn't see him at the state clinic like I usually do so I wasn't sure his status.

Re: Oak Hill Baseball 09'
any school that has the chance to pick up jason wright should jump on it. i was coached by him in high school at south webster and he knows what he is doing. as far as his personality and the way he treats people, that is questionable. but he knows the game and how to make people beter at it
Re: Oak Hill Baseball 09'
Jason Wright is a good guy and knows the game. Baseball is not treated the way it should be by players and parents at Oak Hill. That's why he is not involved there. I don't blame him.

Re: Oak Hill Baseball 09'
i always heard that at oakhill baseball was a throw away sport, and players as well as parants didnt have their heads and hearts in the right place. it's a shame, oakhill is loaded with talant, they just need someone there to make it bloosom

Re: Oak Hill Baseball 09'
Why don't you guys stop blaming parents. The parents don't hire coaches and the parents don't prepare the team to play the game. No disrespect to any coach affiliated with Oak Hill's baseball program the last few years, but enthusiasm is just not there. The only people who showed up to the games were parents. Other than that no one cares about the program. I can't think of a parent running a coach out or simply ruining chemistry. Performance, no matter how much talent you have, comes from leadership. The Oaks just haven't had that since Jason Wright in 2007 and Phillip Kuhn before then. Whoever takes this job please be as excited going into work as coach Estep from Burg or coach Shuler from Valley (hope I spelled those right). There is talent in Oak Hill, they just need to be taught to do things the right way, with dignity, effort, and pride.

"they just need to be taught to do things the right way, with dignity, effort, and pride."
My man, that starts down in little league. And who coaches little league? the parents do. The stuff that went on in Oak Hill in '03 & '04 was horrible. Thankfully, that has stopped, and has improved to the point now to where they seem to at least try for the most part. Talent, is one thing and I can deal with that. Effort and disrespect for the game of baseball and towards a coach is something else, and I can't deal with that.
Nothing would make me happier to see Oak Hill put a competive team on the field year in and year out. But, my goodness, baseball is just a couple weeks away and they still don't have a coach? If I'm a parent in that community with a kid wanting to play baseball, I'm going nuts right now. They just don't seem to care about it right now. Same thing with basketball. Now that they are decent in basketball, the whole town plans their life around it. Good for them, but that wasn't the way it was not too long ago. Back then, it was all about the girls team
I hope they can get a decent guy in there, but it's not looking too good.

Re: Oak Hill Baseball 09'
I'm glad that you mentioned basketball. As I recall the exact same group of kids that no one cared about won a district title in Norm's first year. That is because he knows what he's talking about and has been to the top. His players respect him and he will not settle for anything less. Correct me if I'm wrong but the parents coach them at a young age as well. I'm not on here to argue, as is the problem with this site. I was just looking to see if my alma mater had a coach yet and I see people blaming problems on parents. Parents have nothing to do with the training at practice or the play on the field. If their isn't success then the man getting paid to coach is going to get the blame. You can say what you want but no coach in the last six years or so has taken advantage of the talent there, and there has been talent.

I think you might be a little confused about the word "talent." Oak Hill has not had a lot of talent or depth in baseball since the late 1990's and early 2000's. One or two talented players doesn't cut it in baseball. In Basketball, Persin has done a great job, however in basketball 2 or 3 good players can accomodate the other 2 that are not so good. In baseball, you can't hide. eventually everyone has to hit and usually have 2 or 3 opportunities in the field. 3 mistakes in baseball can cost you as a team. However, I do remember two years ago, I think, Oak Hill finished with a winning record. In order to win consistantly, you have to have, 1 talent, 2. a good motivating coach, and 3 administration that does whatever they can for the program in order to meet their needs. Does Oak Hill have these? You say they have talent, but it looks like 2 of the 3 other ingredients are missing.

Re: Oak Hill Baseball 09'
I completely agree with you. You do need those three components to find success. As far as the talent goes Oak Hill last year had five hitters over .300. They had two who were either .400 or close to that. Last year they had two all-district players. The talent was there. With that being said they lost a lot of games last year because of careless errors. Coaching has a lot to do with errors but the talent was there. But other than that I do agree with you. People must take an interest if the program is to improve.
Re: Oak Hill Baseball 09'
OH has had good success in the little league programs for years but for some reason that never seems to translate to high school. One must ask them why?
