Re: Gallia Academy vs Oak Hill (Janie Hatfield Foundation Game)
This is the news release which was sent that explains the game and "Foundation Service Week."
OAK HILL — Oak Hill High School is participating in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Foundation’s new community service initiative, “OHSAA Foundation Service Week.â€
Oak Hill High School will be participating in a “Foundation Game†on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. (girls) and 8 p.m. (boys) against visiting Gallia Academy.
All tickets are $5.
No passes or discounts will be accepted.
As part of Service Week, all participating schools have identified a community service project that is meaningful for their school and community.
This year, Oak Hill High School has chosen to donate all proceeds from the benefit to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization in memory of Janie Hatfield.
Gallia Academy has chosen to donate its proceeds to the Holzer Center for Cancer Care in Gallipolis.
Many schools already incorporate community service as an extension of learning in the classroom.
Foundation Service Week is highlighted by “Foundation Games,†where participating schools are permitted to use one of five allotted basketball scrimmages to play a live game under all normal game conditions, although the game does not count on a team’s record.
The inaugural statewide OHSAA Foundation Service Week takes place from Friday, Nov. 21 through Saturday, Dec. 6.
Proceeds from Foundation Games go directly to the selected community service project, less a $250 contribution per school to the OHSAA Foundation, which will be returned to schools in the form of scholarships and leadership conferences for student-athletes in all sports.
During the inaugural Foundation Service Week, over 270 schools will be participating in events across the state.
A complete schedule of Foundation Games is available online at http://www.ohsaafoundation.org.
The OHSAA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and was created over 10 years ago to provide resources for enhancing educational opportunities and services for Ohio’s student-athletes.
