Wow! This situation is getting more and more dicey. Like you Jumper, I was thinking that it was starting to simmer down--not the case apparently. I can't say that I am in the know; therefore, I hadn't heard about the upcoming meeting. I have no idea what the next course of action could be. Sounds like the coach will continue to support his decisions and the parents will continue to be advocates for their kids. No way that both parties are walking away from this one happy.

I think your comments about running that program are interesting. Something to think about for sure. Coaches have expectations and goals when they start a season, and they know they'll have hurdles to climb to reach them. They sure are being stacked higher and higher, and these aren't the hurdles one plans for. To me, it's going to be intersting to see what effect this has on the players. These are early season lessons on mental toughness for the Cats. Hope they can circle the wagons and put together a productive season.

What appears to have happened is that someone on the board requested another meeting to discuss what happened AND the PERCEPTION from the public as to why certain kids were cut. While I don't agree with cutting underclassmen ( It ain't like Green is running out of uniforms !) the coach did what he did and there is no going back. Don't fool yourself into thinking the parents want these kids back on the team. One parent told me they would never allow their child to play for the current coach after what happened and was said. I seriously doubt the board would try to tell the coach who he can or cannot have on his team.
Just one more point of fact. The School Board had absolutely NO input in selecting the current coach other than voting on the recommendation from the Superintendent. Lindsay formed his own committee to interview coaches last year. 3 applied, 2 withdrew their names for consideration. That left 1 candidate. When the vote came, two board members were not present.
Don't blame the BOE, they are doing what the people who put them in office are requesting them to do. I still support the coach because nothing would be worse than having another year like we had the last two. I encourage anyone who doesn't have anything better to do on Monday to come to the meeting and bring your popcorn. You would be amazed what you will learn about this situation rather than by reading what a few people on this board post.

This is the answer to your question. Was he pressured? I don't know. They are just trying to resolve and clear this mess up and move on. Don't expect the board or the Supt. to ask the coach to change his position.

Why don't you show up at the meeting Monday and find out for yourself? Listening to only one side of the story omits certain facts. I'll be there with my ears open and will take no sides.

Let's jsut hope the Green BOE handles this situation better than the last one up there last year involving the rehiring of principal, Dave Hopper. Wouldnt it be neat to see a BOE with a little backbone and support the school and coach for a change instead of caving to parental demands?

I agree as well Flash,Let the coach actually coach his team! This kind of thing seems to be going on everywhere!Has alot of similarities to the situation that got Larry Jordan thrown under the bus at Southeastern!

i guess the approach today is "if things do not go my way", then if my parents complain loud enough, things will turn around. maybe i should have my mom and dad complain loud enough and maybe i could play in the nba. if only i had been bigger, taller, faster, more athletic and had a better shot i could have been a 'playa'.

Check out this article, just another random act of kindness.

And your dead on Bobby. Why cut a Freshman....EVER. One that was cut started 2 years Jr. High, and is 6'4!!!!.

Great Point :!:

Here is something for the Green Coach to consider.

This player is a Chillicothe Cavalier Student and he played Football for the Chillicothe Cavalier Freshmen Team during the 2006-2007 season wearing number 40.

http://www.chillicothegazette.com/apps/ ... /611030332

He also started on the Chillicothe Cavalier Reserve Basketball Team during the 2007-2008 season, wearing number 42.

Sad to hear what's going on at Green. I bet that kid would have been given a chance to play on the Chillicothe Freshman Basketball Team this 2008-2009 season, if he lived in Chillicothe.

Poor decision making by a man obviously not ready to lead a program is what started this mess to begin with. The inability to handle different personalities and develop projects for the future. As a coach you gotta play a variety of roles, Teacher, Parent, and Psychologist. Kitchen ISNT A VARSITY BOYS COACH!!!

The board and I, we're not going to tell a coach how to coach. We're not going to get involved in the nitty-gritty of telling a coach who he's got to keep, and who he doesn't. That's not the function of the board or the superintendent," Lindsay said

The coach should pick who he wants!! whats next?
He didn't pick my son because he was left handed?
He didn't pick my son because he has red hair!
He didn't pick my son because he PICKS his nose!
It's life, the coach picks who he wants and 99 out of 100 coaches do everything they can to win, including picking a team they THINK will help them win. Are they ALWAYS right? Absolutely not! But it still needs to be the choice of the coach!
