12-6 Peebles at West Union
I heard Trent Arey will not play in this game. Is there any truth to that?

Does anyone know anything about Peebles. Like what kind of press and offense they are going to run?

I know they are a very good team, just trying to get a leg up on the competition.

West Union won the 7th grade game by around 25 points. Peebles won by even more than that in the 8th grade game and that was without Trent Arey. He should be back this coming Saturday for the Indians in their game at North Adams.

Trent did not play because he had surgery...Peebles is going to 2-2-1 press ,they have a very good team, it will be a tough matchup for everyone.

Tar Heel Fan44,
We did not stay in the press to run up the score and I resent the accusation. We went back to it when you pressed our bench with your starters. Seems to me that you wanted to pressure the ball but didn't want to face any. We were up 31 to 6 in the first quarter and the final was 64 to 26. So I guarantee you that we did not run up the score. The breakdown for the 8th grade game is as follows:
Peebles W.U.
1st - 31/ 6
2nd- 9 / 7
3rd- 11 / 3
4th- 13 / 10
By the way, the 7th grade scoring was as follows:
W.U. Peebles
1st- 10 / 2
2nd- 14 / 2
3rd- 7 / 9
4th- 11 / 5

I am not trying to start anything, but when you are up 31-6 at the end of the 1st quarter then come out in the 2nd quarter and press, I did not like that. And I did say something to the coach about that. In the 7th grade game we was up 17-1 and back out of the press and did not press again. I am not trying to take anything away from the kids from Peebles, they have a very good team and was the better team.
Re: 12-6 Peebles at West Union
TAR HEEL 44, you need to learn some serious posting etiquette/manners, especially if you are on a coaching staff. Even if someone asks the question, you don't have any business stating something like "he had surgery on private parts", I about fell out of my seat. The proper/correct thing to say was, "I think he had some medical issues", or better yet, how about nothing at all?? If the coach or someone from Peebles wanted that answered it would have been answered.
Peebles scored 31 against you in the 1st quarter and only 60 some in the game? I think if I were you I'd be pretty happy about that!

Re: 12-6 Peebles at West Union
I watched the Peebles/West Union game and Peebles pulled the press off at the end of the first period. They did not come back out and press until you kept pressing (every posession) the subs. Another thing tarheel, if a team is shooting layups against your pressure, you might want to think about getting back.
If I were coaching and down 31 to 6 after one period, I would probably not keep pressing when the winning coach enters his subs. Hopefully then the coach wouldn't go back to his press and score triple digits on me.
YOU MIGHT WANT TO BE CAREFUL IN HOPES THAT YOU DON'T MEET THIS TEAM IN THE TOURNEY!

I did not see this game but I did see Peebles play North Adams Saturday. They could have beat us worse than the final score. They pulled the press and the score was 31-7 after the second quarter. I thought their coach acted with class because the score could have been worse than it was. If one coach presses another coaches' subs why shouldn't that coach press back? Is it to say, well that team only beat us by 20 instead of 40. If I were you coach I would not want to play them again in the tournament because I would guess it wouldn't be good.

Re: 12-6 Peebles at West Union
I agree with all of the previous posters about reporting a young man's health issues in the way it was. I could not believe what I was reading on a message board about an 8th grade boys surgery. Even college coaches can't say a thing regarding their players health issues because of privacy (HIPPA) laws. I was going to say something myself, but then I realized who the poster was.
TARHEEL has some great enthusiasm for the basketball program at West Union which is nice to see. However, some of the things that are posted would be upsetting to me if I was the varsity coach there. Even the varsity coach was disrespecting an officiating crew in one of his posts on the boys high school basketball board. I guess it is just the youth and inexperience of the staff and hopefully they learn and go on. As I said, they all do show a lot enthusiasm which I'm sure the boys see from them everyday in practices and games.
As far as a press goes, it is very "common" basketball ettiquete that when you are down by a BUNCH and the other team has their subs in you DON'T go and press their subs. If that happens then the other coach has every right to put his starters back in. The junior coaching staff at Peebles has class and they do UNDERSTAND the game of basketball. They have been around Coach Arey and assisted him when he was coaching junior high and they are an extension of him.
From looking at the scoring by quarters, anyone could see that Peebles obviously backed off of what they were doing or they would have put up 100 points. Also, another thing to consider was they did all that without the services of Trent Arey. What would it have been like if he played? I agree that this would be a team I would hope I would not want to face in the SHL Tournament. Do these two teams meet up again in the regular season?

i agree w/everything u have said so far.(Tar Heel) Are you selfrighteous that you actually think that Peebles was pressing with the score the way it was. I thought that the Peebles coach showed great class.
Well coached team i might add.
