Which two SEOAL quarterbacks would be ahead of Derek and which DI schools do they have offers from?

He would easily have been behind Caleb Knights of Chilli and Patrick Angle of Logan. I dont know about their scholarship offers, maybe someone with more information on them can enlighten us.

Anyone that says he would have put up better numbers than those 2 QB's in the SEOL is not thinking clearly. Oh yeah, their teams made the playoffs too ;-)

Most high school QBs arent D-1 college QB material just as most D-1 college QBs arent NFL QB material

IMO Derek would be MUCH better off as a safety or WR like IRONFALCON stated...now that doesnt mean he can't be a D-1 QB...talent wise he could probably be a QB at a smaller D-1 school but who really knows

Agreed. He seems to have the size, speed (he is fast), strength and smarts. He is an athlete more so than a QB.

Hmm offered as a junior, you put Roback at logan or chillicothe he might have been the starting qb at those schools instead of Knight or Angle? Knight was offered by army? this yr, but Angle hasnt been last I heard. I mean what I get from a college offering someone and not another is they think he is a better player? or am i missing something here?

QB - Not a QB

WHO CARES!

It doesn't matter, this kid is an ATHLETE.

He is big, smart, strong, and fast. That is all he needs.

He will have several offers to choose from, why can't you people be happy for a kid from Southern Ohio who is going to get a chance to play in the big time.

It boggles my mind how people on here act.

In response to Caleb Knights throwing to Derek Roback, the hypothetical results may be true. Ask WAVERLY graduate Trevor Walls. But who is to say that Caleb Knights would not have been a great receiver for Derek Roback. Both are very good athletes. They will thrive in the collegiate atmosphere, simply because they are both going to pursue a college degree. They are student_athletes. Which means, they are students first and athletes second. Both young men will contribute to the world in a positive way. I am very impressed with both young mens' desire to pursue academics. Which, in the long run will benefit both of them and SOUTHERN OHIO.

All we are doing is stating whether we believe he would make a good D-1 QB...I didnt know that was against the law...I dont see anyone on here saying he stinks beyond belief...most if not all of the comments state that he is a GREAT ATHLETE who could go to a D-1 college...some just say that they do not believe he is good enough to be a D-1 QB and that he would succeed more at a different position.

I GUARANTEE you that no matter what size of a school he plays for or what position he is assigned to - WE WILL BE HAPPY FOR HIM

having not coached derek it is very hard to say...
i just said knights throwing to him because derek has credentials as a wideout having played the position before. caleb has been a qb forever... it would be similar to derek not playing qb with walls... next yr he would step in at qb and im sure be fine..
good luck to him

Why dont you get off your high horse pal. Nobody has said ANYTHING negative about the kid so back up a couple steps and catch your breath.

Here are the facts:

1.) He is an athlete.

2.) It doesnt help his case for scholarship offers that Waverly got beat in the ground last year and didnt have a good year. I dont think that will get the college scouts flying to Waverly. Just my opinion. Respect it, as I have respected yours. Everyone knows that he has a scholarship offer from OU.....or at least the SEOP all knowings report that anyway.

3.) I like watching ANY kid from our area play on the weekends. No jelousy here. Its kinda nice having kids looked at from the SOC II to play at a decent college.

If you are referring to Knights being better than Angle then i must let you know that Angle is only a Junior and Angle proved week 10 that he was better than Knights.

Bleeding Red,

I think you need to go back and read your posts. Every one of them has been disrespectful and critical. Wow, step back and read what you wrote before you comment.

Unreal.

If Derek Roback played for Minford, bleeding red's comments might be a little different. He would definitely be the best thing since sliced bread.

I don't think recruiters care a whole lot about a team's record. They recognize talent, regardless of school size or team record. I bet there will be more college scouts flying to Waverly next season compared to what Minford had this past season and next season.

If he played for Minford he would've had a good line to block for him, good supporting running game, fast wr's with good hands, as well as a good defense. But he didn't.

If he played for minford he wouldn't be where he is right now. Waverly is the best place for him right now

Why don't we work on getting him to come to Ironton and there won't be anyone asking about if someone is going to see him...they all come to watch the games down here...and we would gladly accept him in as an ATHLETE, don't know if he would make it at qb...but he is definitely a great athlete. Come on down to Southern Ohio...we will gladly have him play for a winning team....

I have not seen this kid play QB in person but from what I understand about his skill set he has an excellent chance to take snaps at the next level. Consider that he has already been offered by OU, he has one year left in high school and at the end of that year OU is graduating every QB they have that has taken a snap. OU's offense has leaned toward the spread option, which requires a QB to throw efficiently and be a threat running the football, sounds like a perfect place for Derek to play some QB.

You people read what you want to read. I never took anything away from him as an athlete. You people can sit there and act like college coaches dont look at stats and records all you want. They matter.

I only pointed out that a very poor season on the Waverly's teams part (as far as win/losses) doesnt help his chances of getting other/more big offers.

AND TROOPER- I will take Oesch from Minford any day. Roback wouldnt be the best thing since sliced bread to me if he were at Minford. Not to take anything away from him, but Oesch was part of the Minford team that went 8-2 in the regular season and to the playoffs this past year. So I wouldnt change a thing.

I think that D Owens is a little bias towards Roback, because I dont think he ever saw Caleb M. or Angle play. And well I have seen all three play, and by far the best of the three "HIGH SCHOOL" quarterbacks is Caleb M. IMO
