Favorite takedown

Post by boogerred »

I know it has been awhile since this has been brought up.

So what is your favorite takedown? And lets try to to use just the mundane ones. I mean a good single-leg is great if it works but it can be boring.

Mine is probably a russian arm tie to a high crotch.

My favorite wrestling takedown has to be the Cowboy. Its quick but, you can lose the match if you do not pull off right.

Very bad takedown to be using at the high school level because it is so easily countered.

1. Standing roll through
2. Sink hips and take them straight to their back
3. Chase the leg and roll through.

I enjoy the double arm throw.

There are many double arm throws out there. But I think you are talking about a double-underhook hip toss, right?

It is much safer as an offensive move and is harder to counter.

Yeah, I just called it that because that is the only throw I did. I made it to districts with only about 4-5 moves!

Fair enough. I have seen guys make it to NCAA nationals with one takedown. Head in the side single baby.

You will know who I am when I tell you this. I wrestled for River Valley from 01/02-04/05 back and forth between 171 and 189.

How about the old sprawl, crossface and spin? I also loved it when someone was dumb enough to take a bad shot.

From a collar tie, with one underhook. Pull down on the head and throw the underhook up and pick that ankle baby

I used to love to shoot the leg and do a sit out. It took my opponent off balance and enabled me to sneak behind him for the takedown.

I have noticed that if you go for a flurry of moves it is hard to be stopped, whatever the moves are. That is why it is important when in the down position (or any other position as well )to have three or four moves ready, b/c your first move is often stopped just by your opponent being quicker off the start.

Good, old-fashioned snap! I have seen a rookie get knocked unconscious by a snap.
