Re: best 8th grade team
Ironton, no doubt in my mind after watching them play a couple games. They have size, speed and shooters. They are a complete package in my opinion.
You can't judge a team by scrimmages.
8th grade games / scores (5-0)
Boyd County 56-26
Ashland Verity 63-37
Rose Hill by about 25
East Carter 40-23
Russell 66-28

Re: best 8th grade team
Peebles does have a very good 8th grade team. However, there are several very good 8th grade teams in the area which were mentioned by american_muscle. I have no idea who the best one is but it would be great to see some of them get together and play at full strength: Peebles, Ironton, Piketon, and Wheelersburg. These are all Division III schools as of right now. You talk about some great tournament games in high school down the road -- WOW !!!
I would also think that Vinton County is pretty good from what has been posted. As far as the SHL goes, I don't think there will be a team that will come close to Peebles this year during the season.

Re: best 8th grade team
Peebles is the best 8th grade team right now. They had their best player out at the beginning of the season and were still killing teams. Trent Arey is definitely one of the best players to come through Peebles in awhile. He is not only a great shooter, but is can also have a strong inside game. But it's not only him that makes Peebles a great team. They also have a lot of potential at the SG position with McAdow, Porter, and Johnson...and that's not to mention their top notch inside game with Gray, Chandler, and Crothers. This is one of the best 8th grade teams that I have seen in awhile.

Re: best 8th grade team
I would love to see Peebles play Ironton, and Wheelersburg. Ou 8th grade boys beat mason county's 7th grade last year and vinton county the year before that...and we go deep after Trent Arey, too.
I'm biased toward my nephew, of course. That's why I used him on the cover art to the We are the Indians documentary. (www.wearetheindians.org) But they're still a great team, nepotism aside.

That's alright jchitwood, you should be proud of him. He is a very good ballplayer.
As you also mentioned in your post, Peebles 8th grade team goes deeper than Trent and it would be great to see some games against Ironton and Wheelersburg. With all three schools at this time being Division III it will happen eventually.

Re: best 8th grade team
The Vinton Co team hadn't lost in 3 years...but Jackson 8th grade went to VC and beat them.....Jackson had 2 teams as 7th graders adn they are combined this season.....and obviously much improved.
Re: best 8th grade team
What is the age range for the Piketon team? I know they are mostly freighters(should be freshman playing as eighth graders) I know that some of the other schools mentioned do the same thing of holding kids back for sports. Peebles as far as I know has only two kids that are a little older than the norm for eighth graders which has to do with when they were sent to kindergarten and some that were sent to kindergarten early and should be in the seventh grade. So how can you compare true eighth graders to freshman maybe even some kids that could be sophomores? Peebles has a good team with a deep bench. The future for Peebles is very bright and like some others mentioned can't wait to see these match ups in the future. GO INDIANS!
Re: best 8th grade team
Piketon only has one 15 yr old on the team. The next oldest is a true eighth grader. So, I really wish people would quit with freshman/sophomore stuff. If you do not know the true age of these kids, why would you make statements otherwise. I guarantee these kids are as young, if not younger than any team around.
