Why would a kids parents transfer him/her from Gallia Academy to South Gallia, especially with a new coach and all?

What's wrong with South Gallia??????????? Why wouldn't a kids parents transfer them????????? Is this another city school person looking down on us county folk? If a student wants to transfer to better his or her situation, by all means do it....
Re: South Gallia 2009
I don't know Galliagrad personally, that I know of, so I certainly don't know his intent with his post but he makes one clear statement that I wholheartedly agree with concerning the coach and without saying anything he said alot. In recent years I could have understood leaving the GAHS system because we were in a downhill spiral starting and ending with our coaching situation. We just weren't playing Blue Devil football anymore. I am not one to say much about the offense because it really wasn't the problem. The problem I saw was blocking and tackling, I know alot of the kids and watched them grow up, they are good kids and really good athletes with a tough hardnosed mentality, moreso than many years at GAHS yet they didn't play that way. Now we brought in a guy that thrives on teaching hardnosed, disciplined, hard hitting, and fundamental blocking type of football back to Gallia, why leave now? However, I am going to root for the Rebels just the same this year because I have pretty strong ties to ALOT of the kids on the team. Even some that have switched schools. I don't think grad was looking down on anyone, just asking a question.

Re: South Gallia 2009
The transfer, if it's solely for football reasons, might be based on the known local quantity (Coach Burleson) versus the unknown quantity (Coach Eddy).
Coach Burleson has done a good job at South Gallia and I think has earned respect around the area.
Kids know the style he employs and that could serve to attract them.
Plus, it sounds like there's a positive atmosphere surrounding the Rebels football program right now and that's always a positive.
I don't know who transferred nor, obviously, do I know the reason for the move, just some thoughts about why it happened.
Good luck to Coach Burleson and SGHS football!

Re: South Gallia 2009
Just asking, not "looking down" on anyone. Just wondering why a kid would be transferred. Correct me if I am wrong, but these are the pros and cons as I see them;
Pros- 1. More playing time.
2. A different atmosphere.
3. A better chance to be a star.
4. A better fit into the system. (But, let's face it, these are still
just high school kids)
Cons- 1. Moving the family.
2. Paying for the extra gas to get the kid there.
3. Longer day away from home.
4. Having to make new friends. (Which in some cases may be a
good thing.)
5. Living in a fantasy world. (Use your own imagination to figure
that one out! )

Re: South Gallia 2009
food for thought.......if coach burleson is so happy and dedicated to rebel football program and the s. gallia community... why did he apply for the coaching job g.a.h.s. and at jackson h. s.? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Re: South Gallia 2009
If that's true, I would say it's because those are two historically outstanding programs. I don't blame anyone for exploring other opportunities. I love my job however, I have submitted a resume and explored other openings before. I hope he stays for a long time. That being said he has the right to explore opportunities. That's life!
Re: South Gallia 2009
Let's look at that comment about Burleson applying elsewhere several different ways:
1. Travel distance:
Let's say that it is a safe estimate to say that Coach B travels 60 miles a day to coach at SG.
If he were to coach in at Gallipolis, his travel time would be cut in half. If he were to coach at Jackson, his travel time would only be two-thirds of what it is now.
2. Travel cost: Multiply that over an entire season and considering today's price of gasoline, he would stand to net several hundred dollars.
3. Pay:
I am not sure about the exact numbers, but a coach in at Gallipolis would earn more as one at JHS would also
4. Size of school:
By no means is this intended as anything negative towards SG, but at a larger school, a coach has a lot more and better caliber of athletes to choose from.
5. Future coaching plans:
I do not know what his future plans or aspirations are, but many coaches start at smaller schools and work their ways up to bigger ones, and that is just the way it is. That is how everything works in America. You work your way up.
So, I, as well as many others, have no beef with him looking at other positions. everyone wants more; it is just human nature.
I am not certain that he actually applied for those other positions, but if he did, it is his choice and right.

I don't know about the Jackson job? Back I was told he did not apply for the GAHS job. I heard some one from GA ask him to apply.

Re: South Gallia 2009
Having been on the hiring end of coaches, etc, I can almost guarantee you that he was solicited and recruited, and then would he have applied, if at all. It is very emotional for employees, particularly coaches to leave their schools and the pot is often sweetened until they do. Money, additional authority and the potential to advance their career are marketed to them during recuitment.
The pressure on Boards to fill coaching and administrative vacancies compels them to actively headhunt the more successful programs. SG should be pleased that he was sought after by two very historic and successful local programs like GA and Jackson. It shows that the surrounding communities recognize his ability and envy their position.

Heard from a very very reliable source that South Gallia has been voted into the TVC-Hocking at the latest TVC meeting. They will begin league play 2010-2011 seasons.

I was wondering how that vote was going to go. So does that mean Belpre is moving down to the TVC Hocking too?
