Re: Valley @ Western...
First game, or last game it should still count. Why play lazy and not to your potential? Get out there and show us what you got......110% all the time.
Re: Valley @ Western...
Valley put the press on and the guards from Western could not handle the pressure. On Offense the Valley Guards drove to the basket at will and no one from Western stepped in to take a charge. Westerns big boys got all their points after this game was already over in the 2nd half. Valley put 59 points on the board in the first half and could have easily scored 100 points but Valley`s coach slowed it down.

I totally agrre like i said before smithson didnt even score until the 3rd quarter and by then it was just too late. No one hussled back on defense and no one really played much defense. It was one fast break after another for valley.

It was both valley was red hot. I dont think they will have another game where they shoot that good, but you dont have to shoot good when all you are shooting is layups. I still think that western is good, they have the talent they just arent showing it yet.

Thanks Tiger, kind of sounds like Western was playing Man Defense against a smaller/quicker team? Did Western switch up their defense at any time. Help side defense sounds a little shaky? Players need to be in the correct halfway position seeing the ball and their man on defense.

Re: Valley @ Western...
They played mostly man for the whole game but they did switch to some kind of zone for a little while, but when it didnt work they went back to man.
Re: Valley @ Western...
I Guess that I was right, all people were focused on was size, and shanks, unfortunately, one player cant win a game

Western is going to have problems all year with teams that have really quick quards. Western has to learn how to handle the pressure. There were alot of times that Valley scored 6 and 8 points in a row before Western even got the ball across half court. This game was over after only 8 minutes. the Western kids were out of gas. with 4 minutes still to go in the 2nd quarter. I was at the game and yes Valley was red Hot but they got a ton of high percentage shots ( Aka Layups). Western will win alot of games but will not go very far until they learn how to break the press and take care of the ball.

Re: Valley @ Western...
The reason they couldnt get through the press was because hall didnt act like he could dribble, penwell who broke the press and got several layups and layup attempts was in foul trouble, and smithson was throwing those lazy passes. Shanks tried to dribble through it and didnt have a whole lot of success.
Re: Valley @ Western...
Baller 2408 my point exactly Western had no answer for the pressure, Western has a good team and if they play a half court game they have a good chance to come away with the W.

If penwell would have stayed out of foul trouble and hita few more shots it might have been a different game.

Re: Valley @ Western...
You break a zone press by reversing the ball quickly and than finding a cutter in the middle. You break a man to man press by getting the ball to your point guard and having him yell "Clear" and than one on one zizzag the ball down the floor under control (not a mad dash with head down)! Breaking a zone press is a total team effort (passing) where breaking man to man press is basically getting everybody out of the way and letting your ballhandlers show/prove they can dribble the ball under control.
Re: Valley @ Western...
in the first half western was lucky to get the ball past half court zince ended up haveing to break the press rebound deffend pass and it was just to much i checked the book after the game he had 25 penwell was about the only help he got but foul trouble hurt him like 60ft has said before deffens and rebounding we did little of either valley could have very very easily scored 100 but there coach pulled them back out of respect for his opponet our weaknesses were not exposed they were glowing like a flame thrower my hat goes off to shanks he played like a trooper but we were out hustled at every level of the game.our boys are very big and talented but i hope this is an eye opener for the boys and they turn it into a positive reputation only gets you to the gym you still have to play once you are there.we were shell shocked from 1min on and didnt recover. we took a but kicking but i dont know if any teams in our league have that much athletic ability they nutralized our size buy the press and keeping us out of our comfort zone for those western fans that are famillier with the team it looked alot like what hunington ross did to us wast year.keep your heads up boys that happened last year and we won anouther sectional title so lets get back to work and use this game as a motivator for the league.
lol....We did get CRUNCHED by them last year, but Huntington is a whole different story compared to Valley......I see what your saying though, but I don't think that Valley is supposed to be "that" good....
Re: Valley @ Western...
That is also Halls first game as the point he really has had much varsity time an i watched him play at there foundatioon game an he handled it reall well with only two turnovers all game an he ran the offiense good. But the valley game everyone panicked an tried to do there on stuff they need to get the ball to hall an let him set the offence up he will find shanks an smithson.Like the first play of the game when they let him set it up he got penwell the ball with an easy basket.Give it time western will come around an with be a team to reacon with. That was there first game an Valleys third.baller2408 wrote:The reason they couldnt get through the press was because hall didnt act like he could dribble, penwell who broke the press and got several layups and layup attempts was in foul trouble, and smithson was throwing those lazy passes. Re: Valley @ Western...
maybe there not but we just couldnt match up with there speed and with chris in foul trouble we were over matched in the speed of the game we couldnt control the tempo of the game but vince had 12 in the first half mostly of putbacks but just like hunington last year they controled the tempo of the game not letting us asert our size in the half court they ran a 2,2,1 full court press we tried a man but couldnt matchup with there speed so we went to a match up zone but there team speed a handles were to good they were in the paint ALL NIGHT every time they had the ball AND SOUTHERN OHIO BE WARNED THE YATES KID IS FOR REAL hes dominated our guards and post players no one could keep him in front of them layups all night.
