If you are a person who is keeping the kids in mind, you would know that making the playoffs is one of the main priorities. Williamstown fans must not understand the level of competition in Ohio, with their easy walk to the playoffs every year. Marietta's administration and coaches would like to accomplish two things, the first one being to compete with local teams, and the second making the playoffs.

Both of these things have many advantages and extras that come on the side. Competing with local teams would save money for away games, and increase revenue for home games. This in turn would give more money to spend on better equipment which would only help the players. There would be an increased fan base at away games, resulting in more money for the opponent and more support for the players.

Making the playoffs would do wonders for the program. Scheduling local teams that win a high number of games on their schedule would not only comply with increased profit, but also help to put the team in a better position to make the playoffs. I believe Jackson has been accused of scheduling down, but isn't it the smarter thing to do? People over think high school football. The goal is for the kids to have fun, face adversity, and become a better person. If you think that having a top priority of making the playoffs is wrong, I believe you're mistaken. I wish that every senior could play more than a ten game schedule. Making the playoffs wouldn't only do wonders for the players, but it'd also increase fan support. Having a city behind you, which the Marietta team hasn't for a while, can help a team to reach new heights.

Many people think that scheduling down will put your team in a bad spot come time for the playoffs. I believe that if we lessened our competition in the non-league part of our schedule it would increase the teams confidence for the SEOAL part of the schedule. Playing teams like Hilliard Darby, Cambridge, New Philadelphia, Canton GlenOak, and Dublin Jerome have tremendously hurt our seasons in the past. What I would give to re-play my senior season with teams such as Williamstown, Parkersburg, and Belpre is similar to what people in commercials will do for a Klondike bar.

Being done with football at Marietta, I encourage the program to achieve these two goals. The opportunities to create rivalries with local teams should be seen as exciting and something to pursue. And then, playoffs, playoffs, playoffs. Money, money, money. Eventually it will be time to start scheduling up in strength, but we aren't to that level yet. We need to accomplish many things on and off the field before we can do this.

Good luck Marietta. I will help you as much as I can.

Would love to see Marietta and Belpre play again in football. About 10 years ago they played in Marietta and the place was packed. Close game with Marietta winning on a late punt return for a TD if I am not mistaken.

If making the playoffs was all that I cared about, I would not have stayed on staff at one level or another for 14 years. Talk to anyone I have coached and making the playoffs is nowhere close to goal one.

God Bless you Schenk

he is right he would have been gone years ago
and then i might have not had the oppurtunity to be coached by a person that cares about winning on and off the field. its called priorities and believe me this man has his in the right order. Schenk has taught me alot about football but more about life in genreal. its not all about winning in football. Its about getting good grades, living a clean honest life, having strong relationships with your family and people around you. Not always trying to find the easy way out which applies to football , Marietta keeps a tough schedule because taking the easy way out is to go schedule a team that wouldnt stand a chance and thats why Marietta has more kids go off to school and be successful in life than go for football and act like football is number one thing in life becuase its not , its just football which is just a game . I was asked by a wise man YOU love football but does it love you back?

A season isnt measured on how a team did on the field but what they did off the field.

examples would be the kids that started ineligable worked hard in practice and all of them became eligable because they had help from the team and encouragement to do better in school. That happening i would call a good season

A team become like a big family and looking out for each other even after the season is over, that i would call a good season

things happen that can damage a team in skill level and that has happened so many times to the tigers its not even funny but the coaches did just give up becuase the playoff were out of reach heck no they kept teaching and teaching out to deal with problems like adversity.

In Marietta playoffs isnt number one helping mold a young adult into a person who will be successful in life is number one and when that happens playoffs will happen and that what happens in W-town they become a family help each other out work hard and the coach helps mold young adults and teaches them values and then the playoffs come naturally because it all pays off. I played in the youth league over there and then they were teaching the young kids right from wrong.

and Myself being a coach have learned that from my former coaches and teach that to the young kids and i will always keep what the coaches have taught me.

Congrats to the Jackets

Just curious (not sure I don't disagree with you), do you credit Marietta's speed on the turf for the 26 point turnaround if it is at Marietta? Or is it another factor?
