Lady Rockets lose to Coal Grove in 74-19 rout

WELLSTON - In a game of lengthy runs, Coal Grove scored in bunches, as Jordyn Cox had 30 points, three assists and four steals and the Lady Hornets routed the Wellston Lady Rockets 74-19 on Saturday afternoon.

Chelsea Delong added 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting; including one three-pointers and Danielle Carpenter had 10 points for the Lady Hornets. Coal Grove shot 54.4 percent from the field, compared to the Lady Rockets' 11.4 percent for the game.

Only four players scored for the Lady Rockets, as Tiffany Wires led Wellston (0-2) with nine points, while Makenzie Bragg added four and Taylor Mullins and Samantha Goheen chipped in with three points apiece.

Coal Grove scored the games first 17 points and led by double-digits the rest of the way.

The Lady Rockets missed 14 of its first 17 shots and trailed 30-7 with 5:55 left in the first half.

Cox was 8-of-13 from the field, including two three-pointers, to lead the Lady Hornets to a 46-11 halftime lead.

Wellston committed 29 turnovers and were out rebounded 45-29.

"We're just going to have to hit the gym and start all over again," said Wellston head coach Dave Warren, following the disappointing loss. "We didn't have anyone stay back and they (Coal Grove) got a lot of cherry picking points."

The Lady Rockets returned to action on the road on Monday in their Tri-Valley Conference opener at Belpre. Results were not available at press time. Wellston will continue on the road on Thursday in a TVC Ohio contest at Athens.
