The 7th grade team played well together in the first game against West. The second game against West Union the 7th grade team fell apart. The coach did a GREAT job of getting everyone in. I think if the starters would have stayed in the second game would have been closer. There are several players on the 7th grade team that have never played basketball or have only played one year of biddy ball before moving up. Don't rule out this group. This group placed 2nd in two tournments last year and beat a lot of the teams they will play this year in their SOC. I see some real talent on this team. Connor Phipps the point guard is small but very aggressive and can shoot 3 pointers. Bryson Hurt can drive the ball and can shoot from the corners and does a great job on defense. Then you have the two BIG boys Chance and Issac who can rebound and open the lane up. Zach Phillips is a fighter and attacks the ball well. A great surprise from the bench yesterday was Gabe Smith better known as Bob. He was handling the ball well and scored a couple of times. Cody Lewis came off the bench and scored several points too.
The 8th grade will be a force to deal with this year and will be the team to beat this year.
I think both teams did very well with only one week of practice before their first scrimmage. By the time the season starts both teams will be ready. The coaches work well with the boys. WORK HARD BOYS!!

How did West look in the scrimmage? I heard that they were playing with 2 starters from the 8th grade out. Curious to see how they did.

clay played oak hill tonight they played 3 10 min quarters without stopping the clock. Clay led 14-2 after 1 at28-17 after 2 qt and 39-18 after 3 qts. Oak hill scored most of their points last qt with at least 3 starters for clay on the bench. Clay was very fast and oak hill could not keep pace was good scrimmage 7th grade has problems scoring and passings most of the night but they will get better as the season go on

How many girls does Clay have out? Do they play with one team or do they have two separate squads?

West looked good in areas. But all the teams have alot of work. Best of luck to West and Clay...And for the young man posting on here Norte Dame was not there. That was West Union.

 I am sooooooo happy to see a group of kids coming up with talent at both levels this year! I won't make any predictions, but I think it will be a winning season for all!

Clay played Symmes Valley on Monday (12/7/09). On the 7th grade you could see the nerves. Symmes Valley seemed to have their share of nerves too. Everyone for Clay was afraid to take a shot at the basket except for Phillips who made 3-3 pointers during the game. Matt Smith started and did a great job of rebounding. Hurt had to be taken out after he made 2 quick fouls in the 1st qtr. Clay made alot of shots at the basket and rebounded well but just couldn't get the ball in the basket. It was an ugly win but the 7th graders pulled out their first win!!!

The 8th grade for Clay fell apart. One of their big men (Hafer) couldn't play and it seemed that the 8th grade had it in their minds that they couldn't win without Hafer. Symmes Valley was very fast and very strong. A high point of the game was in the last 1:00 in the game. The coach went to his bench and put in Hurt and Phipps. Those two were real scrappers. Hurt drove the ball in twice to draw 2 fouls and went to the line to shoot. Hurt and Phipps tied up Symmes Valley players for several jump balls. Phipps may be a lot shorter then those guys but wasn't backing off of them!!

I have no doubt that the next game the 8th grade will be out for BLOOD!! Hafer will be back. Hopefully the 7th grade nerves will be gone and they will be ready to play their type of game that I know they can!!

Michael is fine. He was being punished for something. I talked to him the other day and he is ready to get in the game. I hope he has learned his lesson.

I think that the 8th grade boys are a great team. They seemed to have worked really hard over the summer and they play well together as a team. Smichdt has great rebounding skills as does Hafer, Shaffer and Evans mesh really well, nice to have two talented players that can both bring the ball down the floor shoot and score and get the job done. The madden boy has really came into his own this year, scoring 6 points i believe in the game against western. Baldridge is a great hustler and pretty good on defense. As for the rest of the team everyone one has improved greatly this year. Haven't got to watch to many games, Hope to be able to though. From what I hear they are the team to watch in Jr. High ball.
Heard also that one of the 8th graders was a hold back? Didn't realize Clay did that. Does anyone know why?
