Championship teams are not developed overnight,so I hope the people give the new coach plenty of time to build his program.

Do you actually believe they will give the guy a chance? (community not administration) He better win soon or the know- it- alls will be on this site stabbing him in the back. Best of luck whoever the poor guy is! I will support him to his face and behind his back more than many can say on hear. He loses to Wellston week 1 honeymoon will be over very soon.

Well from what I've heard the new coach may not be coaching in the SEOAL for long. The Ironmen want out of the dying SEOAL and have courted two other leagues one being the TVC.

Joining the TVC may be good for building a great regular season record, but it will in no way prepare the Jackson teams for the playoffs. When I coached in the Columbus area we would play teams from Southeastern Ohio in the playoffs and they were just over matched. You need great competition in order to build a great program and the TVC won't give Jackson that. 9-1 or 10-0 is not so great when you get killed in the first round of the playoffs.

buckeyes3645. From my understanding they want out due to travel and money issues. Not competition.

There would be no competion in the TVC for Jackson, so IMO the SOC would be a better fit for Jackson if they do decide to leave the SEOAL. Buckeye3465 the only time that jackson has played a columbus team in the playoffs the columbus team had a hard time beating us, and when we played them in a regular season game that columbus team didnt fare so well.

The only Columbus team that I remember Jackson playing in the playoffs was DeSales. That was a good game for awhile, but it wasn't really close at the end. The regular season Columbus team that I remember Jackson playing was Franklin Heights who was absolutely horrible.

Soc will never let us in. Its not like Jackson can just say we are going into this league. I understand why everyone wants competition but the TVC deserves alittle more credit. I also bet the gate money would go up. Buckeye is right the Columbus school we beat was horrid. However, Withrow was a nice win. But Jackson's talent pool was also a ton bigger. The new coach has his hands full the next several of years.

Im thinking that 9-1 or a 10 -0 season playing in the TVC some years wouldnt be enough points to get them in the playoffs.
I dont see Jackson ever being in the TVC. JMHO

Personally I would rather Jackson Join the SOC than Ironton. I hate that trip.

I haven't heard if Portsmouth has been voted in or not yet. Anyone know?

21-7 is by no means a blowout, but it was arguably Jackson's best team ever. The point I was making is that playing in the TVC will never get a D2 or D3 school ready to play the top teams in Ohio in the playoffs. If the goal is to run up great regular season records then the TVC would be the way to go for Jackson. But, if the goal is to build a program that can compete on the state level then it won't work. I feel that Jackson can be one of the top programs in the state if the new coach wants it to be. Jackson showed that it can play with anybody when they beat Withrow a few years ago.

You have to have talent, people should be patient with the new coach whoever they may be.

The DeSales game was not a blowout by the way.

From what I understand getting out of the SEOAL has nothing to do with the competition. It has to do with finances, namely travel and gate receipts.
Chilly, Ports., Warren, and Marietta bring no one when they travel to Jackson - yet when they play Wellston or VC people come out in droves.
Also, it is no secret that Warren, Marietta, Gallipolis, and Portsmouth have all been looking at other leagues.

Since they have been taking 8 teams to the playoffs anyone who goes 8-2 or 9-1 gets in. The days of Lucasville Valley finishing 10-0 and not making it because of the weak competition are over. If Jackson goes to the TVC they would still have 3 non-league games. If they are worried about competition they could use those games to schedule tough opponents. They could still keep Waverly as a non league contest, but could pick up a couple of others to replace Wellston and Vinton County since they would then be league contests. Maybe add a Wheelersburg or Ports West.
I know football drives the athletic finances but there are also other sports to consider as well. Plus, no one wants to be the last team standing with no where to go.

You know, for all the smack talk about the TVC on here, there sure are a lot of teams interested in joining our league! The TVC teams travel well and have natural built-in rivalries. You go to a TVC game and the stadium is packed on both sides of the field in most games. Sounds like a pretty darn good league to me!

Western Brown was a 7 seed in Region 8 at 10-0 this year. They played a majority of D3 and D4 teams (which would be the case with Jackson in the TVC). So I wouldn't go as far as saying that 9-1 or 8-2 gets you in for sure.

An earlier poster asked about the NY vs. Jackson series after NY joined the TVC. The teams played three times in the 1990's and Jackson won two of the three.

1990: Jackson 21 Nelsonville-York 20
1991: Jackson 44 Nelsonville-York 22
1994: Nelsonville-York 48 Jackson 07 (Jackson went 8-2 that year, other loss was to Logan, the SEOAL champion that year, which NY also beat that year)

Why do you think that the SOC wouldn't allow Jackson in the league?
