Athens at Warren Local 12/6
Re: Athens at Warren Local 12/6
I thought both teams might have more than 48 points by the 4th quarter, let alone a combined 48!

Warren 46 Athens 34. I'm sure the refs beat Athens. we'll wait to hear it direct from the Athens fans.
Re: Athens at Warren Local 12/6
Boy you talk about UGLY and I mean UGLY by both teams. The best way to call this game. I would like to hear what the radio boys had to say on the air. Bet they had their hands full keeping up with the pace of this mess.
What a complete turn around from Sat. nights game. Neither team could hit a basket or keep hold of the ball. Turnover after turnover, 23 for the Warriors and Athens had to have the same if not more. The one thing the teams had in common was physical play at both ends of the floor.
I don't think coach Maddox or coach Skinner got much out of this game and I know we as fans really did not see the teams we should have or expected. Both are better.
This was a game the teams need to forget and move forward. Both teams will have a good year and be at the top of their leagues. Good luck Athens.
Some Warren stats:
26% from the field
19-26 from the foul line 73%
11 assits
23 turnovers
As i have said before, A WIN is a WIN even if it is UGLY!!!!

Re: Athens at Warren Local 12/6
The way I feel about it was the refs controlled the whole game, foul after foul. The guy sitting behind me said it best when he saw the refs come out "Going to be a lot of fouls called tonight because these guys don't like running back and forth because they are overweight and these 3 always call a bunch of fouls". 21 fouls called in the first half alone, I would say he is right.
Re: Athens at Warren Local 12/6
Two teams playing their butts off. Great defense can make offense look bad. Two teams slugging it out toe to toe. If all the critics and so called experts worked as hard as the kids did last night on both teams, they would not need pants whose waist size was bigger than their inseams. Good job by the Bulldogs and Warriors, going to be some sore and tired boys this morning.
Re: Athens at Warren Local 12/6
Bigbluedad and spartan, I agree with your posts. The refs called alot of fouls and were having a hard time with the pace of this game. I also saw alot of fouls that were not called both ways and at times just let them play.
The effort by both teams was there, its just how they went at it. Thats what made this game SLOPPY.
Both teams were PHYSICAL, but there is a time during the game you have to get it together and play BASKETBALL. DID NOT HAPPEN!!! Thats why I posted Forget this game and move on.
Two good teams that made the other look bad.

Great game by the Warriors. Blane has a great group of kids, especially his sophomores. They will be a great group for years to come.

Re: Athens at Warren Local 12/6
Can't believe in just two games we have seen the good, bad, and the ugly already from the Warriors....against Meigs we looked unbeatable, everything fell, and last night that effort would have been a "L" against many of the schools on our schedule....yes it was hard fought with physical defense, blah blah, but to have that many unforced turnovers by seniors just makes one scratch their head? Yes it is a "W" and we'll take it, yes it's early in the season, but I was surprised one of the seniors was not able to step up in the first half and get the team out of their funk...didn't happen until French hit a couple of threes early in the 4th quarter....well on to Belpre on Friday, Mr. Thornhill must be feeling pretty good after what he saw last night....I'm sure we'll be okay but we have to play full throtttle every game....best of luck to Athens, you have a good group of kids and good blend of veterans and youth for this year....Skinner will have you playing your best for the stretch....

I agree, this is one to move away from and focus on the next game.Excoach78 wrote:Bigbluedad and spartan, I agree with your posts. Re: Athens at Warren Local 12/6
from the Marietta times:
Athens 11 5 6 12 -34
Warren 12 4 10 20 - 46
Athens (1-1)
Nick Stanley 1-3 (0-0) 2, Aaron Simmons 0-2 (0-0) 0, Josh Skinner 2-11 (0-3) 5, Devon Sharp 5-13 (0-0) 11, Joey Burrow 1-12 (0-0) 3, Michael Germano 1-3 (1-2) 3, Ryan Luehrman 4-8 (2-2) 10, Jared Elmore 0-0 (0-0) 0, Team Totals: 14-52, (3-7) 34.
Warren (2-0)
Evan Yabbs 0-1 (0-0) 0, Tyler Ward 0-6 (2-2) 2, Adam Lang 0-0 (1-2) 1, Jeremy Hastie 1-5 (4-4) 7, Josh Windland 2-5 (4-6) 8, Jace Knost 4-9 (3-6) 11, Evan French 4-10 (0-0) 10, Danny Pannell 0-2 (0-0) 0, Austin Henthorn 1-1 (4-4) 6, Reece Patton 0-0 (1-2) 1, Team Totals: 12-39, (19-26) 46.
Team Totals: Shooting: A: 14-52 (26.9%), W: 12-39 (30.8%), Three Point Shooting: A: 3-17 (Skinner 1, Sharp 1, Burrow 1. W: 3-18 (French 2, Hastie 1). Rebounds: A: 24 (Luehrman 6, Skinner 5). W: 37 (Ward 12, Hastie 7). Assists: A: 6 (Skinner 4). W: 14 (Ward 3, Hastie 3, Windland 3). Turnovers: A: Athens 17, Warren 20. Team Fouls: A: 23, W: 16.
Looks like Warren was able to limit the trips to the line for Athens, and that plus Athens 27% FG shooting was the difference in the game, as Warren was able to get to the line and overcome their 2 FG deficit on 31% shooting, with trey shooting being a wash.
