I want Coal Grove to succeed as a team not a player and simply say what i think they should do just like every1 else. Ive coached both these kids and im giving you my personal evaluation. I want to see the hornets do something i havnt seen in a while, WIN PLAYOFF GAMES, and dont wanna see a year with so much promise ruined by position changes. Bottom line is the Hornets have a hell of a lot of athletes lets go out this upcoming year and cheer em on no matter whos playing where.

I couldnt agree with you more! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see CG win a playoff game or two or three :D If the dont change positions (which i dont see them changing) we will still have a great team with two young RB's in Gunther and Estep. Brusier there may be a couple im missing too, if there is who are they and could they be starters? Did CG have a VERY fast kid returning last season? Is he still there? Who will be some of the upcoming lineman? CG has really lacked in the Line since about 05-06 seasons. They had a huge athletic line back then, and havent seen it since. They also need a big powerful fullback again like Bare and Basil (SP?) Do you expect them to play any "cloud of dust offense"? Or do they have a bunch of speed with not much size?

Some of us "up the river" have slowly watched CG go down hill as of late.? Yeah, they can beat the other OVC teams, SO WHAT? Some of the "true blue GROVERS" that I went to school with , (back in the day) , can't believe the fans, and Parents too, are settling?? It used to be that some of the men I worked with from the Grove would tell me that, "we keep the GOOD players in the village so their kids can play"??? But the "die-hard" Hornets don't seem to be there anymore? Could be wrong, or maybe it is a "trickle down effect from higher up"??
Please feel free to enlighten us up yonder if you can! :?:

I know one thing the upcoming soph class that were fresh last year has a great line with a lot of size and good potential. One played varsity full time last year at tackle and the other played on and off. They had Gunther and Beals. Returning kicks last year but beals will graduate. So Gunther will probably take that. Steele returned punts last year so i figure he'll do that again. Ill get back with you on the rest.

this years freshmen class does have a lot of talent. here is a link to the hornet channel that has a freshmen offensive highlight film. it's about 15 min long, but worth the watch. there is also a freshmen defense film, along with a lot of other cool coal grove football footage.

I know we will have a fullback next year that could be a fullback that isnt afraid to hit ya in hogston. But he just has to be smart and use his head and he could produce. At that position. But the two you mentioned (Bare and Bazell) were apart of that 05-06 team that would flat knock ur head off they was some stout fullbacks.

Coal Grove isnt what it used to be... The village has been taken over by drugs. Kids are more interested in staying at home or hanging out with their buddies then comitting to a sport. Kids all over feel so entitled to things these days. I think that is everywhere now. A lot of CG's fanbase has quite coming to games, and the ones that do act like they are scared to cheer...When i played every game was standing room only, now we dont even fill up the bleachers. CG just doesnt have the pride like it used to...and until our coaches stop settling for OVC championships i dont see us regainging our pride.

CG Alum....so why doesn't the people in CG do something? Maybe I'm missing something!! Don't the voters care, or the parents, if I had a kid or grandkid that had potential and the coaches were holding him back or the administration for that matter, I would be at board mtgs complaining each and everytime I could! Maybe it's just been too long ago and times have changed A LOT. I just NEVER expected the people of CG to settle for OVC. The one thing I do remember from the 60's and 70's was the pride the fans had. (2nd only to Ironton fans of the day)...just wondering when it changed and why. I know from on here that there are still caring people and parents that would like to get it back. I also have read articles about really good athletes from CG, so it seems like the talent is there, just not the support?? Please let me know if I'm wrong. :?: :?:

Amen Brother!!!!

I have been having the argument for years. I remember Coal Grove football games having packed bleachers and it being very rowdy. Now you could honestly hear a pin drop in the stadium. If this team is as good as I believe it will be this year then the one piece that they do need is a fan base that is not going to let them settle on the field. I say that because if you went to any of our games last year you could see our team start to just go through the motions when the crowds was not showing any excitement in the game.

The list of coaches who have coached both of these boys is very short and none of those would be qualified to be considered quarterback experts. jmho :?

OK,,,,,,where did the WR talk come from. I mentioned putting Bare at running back but not receiver,,,we would be taking an athlete out of the offense. As for putting Bare at running back my only reason for it is because last year our backs would get to the hole and either slow down if the hole was not open or were not hitting holes with the speed they need. Now if getting year of playing time under their belts helps them then we can go with what we have because I will admit Estep did show some signs of being a really hard runner last year between the tackles and if Gunther can get the yards outside the tackles that would give the look of a classic Coal Grove offense minus the fact that we will have a passing game to make teams worry about as well.

I mentioned playing Bare at WR/WB. But i would also design something to get him more passes and runs, but i think we have given up on that though... i guess im not used to seeing a 130lb running back with average speed at CG. If you have average speed (4.6 or higher) then you need to be at least big (185+) to run the ball... Thats just my own opinion... I keep forgetting about Gunther, he could be the next great speed back for cg... he was great as a freshman. Im excited to see him the next few years.. i think most of CG is too...

I don't care about forty times, remember there is track speed and then there is football speed, and Bare has shown he has football speed, he has also shown that he can make people miss when being rushed out of the pocket and take it for huge gains. Now, he has also shown some issues with judgement while in the pocket, he has thrown int's that he should not have thrown, throwing to receivers that have db's all over them, so sometimes he thinks more of his arm and accuracy than what is there, but he is young and those are coachable problems with pocket judgement. I like having Bare at QB and I am starting to believe that with the backs we have(if they can show they are ready to play) and the receivers we should have a very good offense, but like with every year my biggest worry with this team is defense, for the past few years we have had the offense to go far it is the defense that lets us down. I feel that we need to change the defensive scheme, we have ran a 50 for years because when we first started running this defense was in the era of the running game in Ohio High School football, that is not the case anymore. I would like to see us run a 34 or even some sort of a nickel base defense seeing most of the teams we play like to spread the field. I know you can only play what you have players for but that is my ideas for the defense.

CG_ALUMNI wrote:I think the only problem we will have running at 3-4 or Nickle would be speed... CG just doesnt have the all around speed for a 3-4. I think the problem on D is poor coaching. Defense is always going to our achilles heel until we get a good D coach. The D needs to be more disiplined and keep their shoulders squared to the line and feel their gaps and backside responsibilites.... We also need some athletes in the DB's. A zone is not ideal for HS football.. its just too much to cover for the generally slow reaction times of HS DB's...I think i couild go on and on about our defense. All in all, we are going to suffer until we get a real D cord in there.
I agree, no matter how many TD's your offense can score, if your defense can not stop your opponent...well results are obvious now aren't they?! :122246 :122246

You can calculate your favorite QB weekly by checking the stats in the newspaper.

The Rigsby kid will shine when he is a junior. This isn't debatable. Bare will be the quarterback. Just common sense people. Come on!
