I think Triplett has to be considered the best coach at RV. If you look at some of the scores from the 3-7 and 4-6 or whatever years, many of those losses were by close margins. He beat Logan, and also was the only coach at RV to beat "the Academy". As for best ever in Gallia County, I would have to say Brent Saunders.

I think that both times that RV beat Logan it was at Logan, weren't they?

In Triplett's years at River Valley he went 3-6, 2-8, 6-4. They had a victory over Logan at Logan (I think), and almost made the playoffs the year they went 6-4. Not saying he was the best coach ever in Gallia, but in those 3 years he did something that very hard to do in River Valley espicially in the Seoal. The best coach ever in Gallia County, in my opinion is Brent Saunders

Coach Triplett's records at River Valley were 3-7, 3-7, 4-5. The 6-4 at River Valleys was by Greg Deel in his second year after going 5-5 his first year as head coach.

The most underrated coach was Mel Coen at Kyger Creek. Some other names that need to come up are Johnny Ericker and Buddy Moore from Gallia Academy. Was Chuck Stobert and assistant at Gallia Academy at one time. Did he not go on to be an Assistant Coach at Michigan, USC just to name a few big time programs?

my vote is for jack james.

and also a wonderful job by coach tripp. who was the first coach at the nwly formed river valley. beating logan twice in the seoal. the biggest problems there was throwing all the teams together, and trying to put school ego's aside, and play for a common cause of winning. that took many years.

I did a little research on the golden footballs at Kyger Creek. Jim Sprague was an excellent coach and won several titles but I think those particular trophies predate his time at the school. A few of the names that I found were John Wickline, Jim White and Howard Miller, all three great coaches. There may be others but these are the names I could identify.

gahs4ever wrote:booger: Correct me if Im wrong but werent Tripplet's seasons when RV was in the SEOAL? To win 3-4 games with that schedule would be comparable to winning the OVC. Who was coaching RV the two times they beat Logan; once on the hilltop?

The reason we beat Logan those years is because Logan wasn't good. I played against them in 1994 when they had Zimmerman, Cox and Cosgrove and they smashed us 61-6. In 1995, we beat them by less than one touchdown. Believe me we were not a good team. We could run the ball and hit hard but we were not that good. How did Gallia do against Logan those years? I bet the Devils beat the Chieftains those years as well. Why? Because Logan was down!
