Re: SHL Scores and Standings Week 6: End of the World Editio
Am I wrong to say that from top to bottom (10 teams) this might be one of the strongest SHL leagues in a long time. It seems like there are 8 teams who can compete with just about anybody. Kind of makes me feel sorry for Fayetteville and West Union. Hell, Fayetteville is still competitive with most schools and played pretty even with D1 Western Brown. I dont know what West Unions non league schedule looks like but they will be hard pressed to win a game in the SHL. Come tournament time I just hope that these teams dont have to play each other to advance to the Convo because this could be a record year for SHL teams going to the Districts.

The SHL is definitely tough but I don't think its as strong as last year. The D3 teams may be better but I dont think the D4 teams are quite as good. Manchester, Fairfield, and Whiteoak benefit from the Southeastern region being down this year. All three are still pretty good but they all lost key players that helped put them over the top last year. I agree with what you said about Fayetteville and I think they are better than their record indicates. I wonder how long its been since West Union had a "good" team? They have been the punching bag of the SHL over the past few years and are due for a good year.

Wow according to Maxpreps West Union had a pretty good season back in 06-07. I had no idea they ever played Mason County.
Re: SHL Scores and Standings Week 6: End of the World Editio
They were the #1 seed? And got stuck like every year (SHL face off due to sectional seeding) and survived a huge scare from a somewhat down Eastern Brown team.

They probably had one of the most talented teams West Union will see in a long time and still didn't win the league. They had 6'6" Jeremy Bennington who is now at Shawnee, the late Jordan Cox who spent time starting at point guard at marietta, and some talented role players in Eric Richmond, Ash Price, Mike Fossyl, and the Staggs kid. Definitely would have been their best chance for success.
....they missed it.
and understandably they got killed against mason county

West Union hung with Mason County for a while, only trailed by 7 at the half. I'm surprised they even scheduled an Adams County team in the first place.

I wish Peebles would have played them last season when Treg was there. That 07 squad was right in the middle of some of the best teams in Mason County history. 6'8" Darius Miller was a junior at the time(he will be in the NBA draft following this season), 6'9" Trevor Setty was a junior( last season's NAIA Championship MVP), plus they had a supporting cast that included other future college players like Russ Middleton, Ethan King, and the Lang kid that plays for Shawnee at the moment among others. The next season i got to go down and see Mason County win the state title. For West Union to stay within 10 pts for as long as they did was an accomplishment in itself.airforcejm wrote:West Union hung with Mason County for a while, only trailed by 7 at the half. Now that the Lofton/Miller eras are over i'd like to see them schedule some Adams County teams in upcoming seasons. I'm surprised they didn't do it this year knowing that they would be "down" and the games would be more competitive. I've watched them twice so far this season (Ashland and St Pat) and I think the top teams in the SHL would have a pretty good chance against them.

Fairfield vs. North Adams article: http://highlandcountypress.com/main.asp ... leID=11198
Fairfield was the real winner tonight. They moved over Ripley into first place in the SHL small school.

Combs scored 27 last night against West Union, the first time he broke the 20 mark this season I think. Big win for Fairfield also. Tonights game between the two should be a good one.
