North Adams v. Wheelersburg (12-22-08)

Post by slamdunk »

North Adams takes their undefeated record on the road for the first time in the 08-09 season. This should be an interesting match-up. NA took one on the chin at home last year against the Lady Pirates. I think this is a totally different year though. NA is much improved since last year with the addition of some young talent. Wheelersburg is struggling a bit so far this year. It should be an exciting game!

I agree with you slamdunk. North Adams is a completely different team this year (last year at this time they were 0-5!!). Wheelersburg has struggled in streches this year, but they are a well-coached, tough group of ladies. This will be a great test for both teams as they step out of conference play to tangle. This is a good matchup that I hope continues in the future.

This was a close game early that turned ugly fast in the second half. Wheelersburg held a 21-14 advantage at the break. At the start of the second half, Wheelersburg pressure defense gave the Lady Devils a lot of problems, which lead to easy baskets for the Lady Pirates. The Lady Pirates ran their offensive sets, allowing for some open shots from the circle.

North Adams sturggled tonight, pure and simple. The good news is it's only one game. The Lady Devils need to take this time to work on their mistakes, turn tonight's game into a learning expierence, and prepare for their upcoming game(s) (next game is Dec. 30th @ Peebles, as part of the McDonald's Holiday Classic).

Congrats to Coach Spradlin and his team on a fine victory.

On a personal note, it was great to return to "my roots" tonight. It's been a trying week or so for myself, working to try to help defeat a team that I have supported since I was in fifth grade. Dusty Spradlin has been a coach/mentor/friend to me ever since my freshman year at the 'burg in 1999. Coach Spradlin has done a wonderful job with the girls basketball program over the past 6+ seasons. I know Pirate basketball is in good hands under the direction of Tom Barrick, Dusty Spradlin and their staffs.

I'm now fortunate to get to work and learn from another great coaching staff. Rob Davis, Brock Caldwell, and Tommy Newman are three great basketball minds that I enjoy working with everyday. I believe that we have the Lady Devils basketball program moving in the right direction. We have a great group of girls to work with and a community that supports them.

I wish all of the Wheelersburg community the best; they have always been wonderful to me and supported me in every way. I saw so many faces in that gym tonight that have helped make me who I am as a person, a teacher, and a coach. I'll never forget the years I spent on the sideline and on the bench for the orange and black.

However, I hope the next time I go up a Wheelersburg team, the game goes a little bit better for myself.

Definitely a night that the Lady Devils want to forget! What a terrible night for the Lady Devils! They couldn't get anything going offensively and then when things got going really bad for them on the offensive side, they started giving up on defense leading to many easy baskets for the Pirates.

Hopefully they will learn from this game and make them stronger for the rest of the year. All of us who are associated with this team know what great things they are capable of. We need to move on and get ready for the Holiday tournament.

Wheelersburg travels to (3-3) Zane Trace tonight.
It should be a good game.

I am not going to make the Zane Trace game. The roads are too bad and I saw too many accidents happening on the way home from Huntington.

My blacktop driveway is an ice rink. I found out real quick while taking the trash to the bottom of the hill....Didn't fall but knew I had better get over in the grass before I did. Not a good night to be out...

I talked to one of the parents a couple of hours ago and they were stopped at the Sciotoville overpass. It was closed and they were not letting anyone through. The traffic was backed up all the way past Wheelersburg within the hour.

I don't know how it is now. But VERY few cars are on the road and the ones that are happen to be moving very slow.

Hope to see some pictures from the game on the burg's website in the future. It was great to be back, although things didn't go as we planned.

I can't put them on the website myself but the web team will get them up most likely the first week back in session. :)
