any results from south webster biddy tournament?
Re: any results from south webster biddy tournament?
Bottom line, the tournament was run poorly because the person who was in charge thought it would be easy to do. Unfortunately, he didn't have a clue about what he was doing and now makes the people of South Webster look bad.
THANK YOU to those individuals who VOLUNTEERED there own time to try to finish the tournament the best they could, AFTER cleaning up the mess left by the "director" who walked out on everyone.
Lastly, I am amazed at the way that ADULTS act towards others (coaches, refs, players, directors, their own children). The yelling and screaming towards officials is not needed or called for. How many of you complained about something at the tournament? Did you ask to volunteered to help out with anything? From what I'm told a few people not from South Webster did, but most just wanted to complain and talk about how bad it was handled. This was done AFTER the "director" walked out. For you people, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Again, thank you to those to volunteered their own time to finish the event. If it is run next year, I will notify whoever is in charge that I will help out.

In response..... I never yelled at an official, I actually thought they did a wonderful job. Everyone I encountered was nice and friendly. Sorry I didnt volunteer. I just never thought it was my responsibility. Hopefully next time there will be plenty of people in charge so if one walks the others can still finish it up. But again, I will never know because I wont be there. Good luck with the next one.

It shouldn't be the responsibility of people to volunteer for a tournament they have no affiliation with. If the south webster high school teams were in charge then they should have had enough volunteers. If for example clay was running a tournament no one from another school should have to volunteer to help with their tournament.

High school boys calling a game that they had no business officiating. Let them officiate a 2nd grade game, but many of these 4th grade teams have an idea about how to play....DON'T let it get out of control like today. I seen some of the worst calls I had ever seen.
As the mother of one of the high school refs.....back off salemcat and anyone else that wants to complain.
I didn't hear of you asking to ref when the boys were TOLD TO DO IT!!!! I understand there was not enough paid refs, not enough people working, South Webster parents were not told they needed help until it was to late and THANK YOU for all of the other schools that did help out!
Also, whom ever the coach from Green was that grabbed the high school ref on the arm or as I heard it...shoved him.....
shame on you for touching him.......and boy did you grab the wrong one!

Re: any results from south webster biddy tournament?
There is no excuse for a coach to grab an official or vice versa. If in fact this did happen especially a teenager or shove them. That kind of a act is unacceptable.
Do I understand it right that some officials did not show?

From what I seen, the 'shove' was both the ref's and the coaches fault. The ref was walking away after telling the Green Coach to calm down, the Coach put his hand on the Ref's shoulder and the Ref then turned around and gave him a nudge and the Coach did the same thing. I agree that the Coach grabbed the wrong one!

The Ref thing is apperantly just a rumor. I was told they were no-shows but later found out that the director did not schedule the correct amount of officials.

A little helpful advice: When officiating a game for young kids, do not let it get out of control. A prominent official told me this, and I strongly agree with him. He said that at some point football merged with basketball, and as refs we have to get things back to the sport it once was meant to be. he told me that leagues that allow this type of basketball is not benefiting the kids skills whatsoever. They are only learning to foul and do things they can get away with. We are lucky to have two referees in our league who do call everything, and explain what they did wrong. Does this slow the game down? Some, but not enough to be a distraction, and the kids are learning not only from the coaches about the game but the officials as well.

That's the problem; it's no one's RESPONSIBILITY to volunteer. You do it because you want to help or because someone with authority over you forces you to do so.
I'd like to hear more about the coach from Green who may have put hands on an official. I think I know a few of the coaches from Green and I find that hard to believe of those I know. I'm not saying it didn't happen, I just find it hard to believe.
Re: any results from south webster biddy tournament?
Let me clear this up for everyone. First the Director did not walk out, but went to the ER having a heart attack. Second their were enough refs, but some of them that made the commitment to be there did not show up at the last minute. As for the brackets the same thing! There were teams that said they woud be there for sure and were taken on their word. Once the tournament started they didn't showup and things had to be changed. The second grade tournament, yes was put on the back burner and shouldn't have been. There were great people who stepped up to take control after the Director suddenly had to leave with chest pain. It has been discussed that that any tournament in the future will be ran by a commitee so that way there are several people who knows what is going on. I know that any tournament in the future at South Webster wll be ran well and be a great expierence because of the unfortunite things that occured.

Why not just be honest & fess up....That you made mistakes & stop blaming other persons......
I know for a fact that the community that I live in entered a 3rd & 4th grade team & never said a word of bringing a 5th & 6th grade team but yet they were listed on both brackets. That was not from them entering & not honoring their commitment either. The brackets were incorrect from the get go....
Also, if you scheduled actuall licensed officials for the entire tourney then why would they not show up???? I could see if something happened to maybe one of them maybe even two....But there were only 2 or 3 licensed officials there during given times....You ran 3 courts that means that 3 licensed officials stood you up.....Sorry, but I know several officials personally & they all know better than that....It just gives them a bad name & they will not be called to work other games or tourneys & I believe that they all know it....
I also know of an official who offered to work the tourney & was told that he would get a phone call as soon as the times were set....Knowone ever called him all weekend???? If officials did not show up, why not call other officials????
Sorry to go on & on, but I do not think that you should blame other people for your own mistakes....Just fess up, apologize & go on....

Re: any results from south webster biddy tournament?
I have admitted my mistakes and wrote a whole apology to all that came. As for teams that did not show up it was unfortunate, but true. When someone calls and says their team is with Webster for example, then I put them down as Webster. I am not sure what team you are with who you said did not have another team, but that caused some problems. I admit that most of the problems were my fault and take responsibility and just for the record every referee I called when those who said they would be there no one could do it. I had to pull a ref from the stands who luckily was there to watch his daughter. I not here to argue, but to admit I made mistakes and I apoligize to those who were troubled and displaced. Thank you for coming and I hope everyone will come in the future with a new committe running any tournament with everything the way it should be and teams taken care of.
