[quote="fuzzhead"]You're wasting your time, Irish Domer...... Coal Grove basketball is all about "My boy".... and historically, their level of success is a testament to that fact.
Ward's record elsewhere and the respect he has from other coaches in the area speaks for itself.
I totally agree with you fuzzhead. I hear the parents complaining but as far as I know the kids are not unhappy. All coaches yell! They get excited, the gym is loud and they want to be heard by the players. I do not think the boys take it personally. I have seen this from allot of coaches. I especially agree that some Coal Grove parents are all about their own boy. We all know who bruisers boy is. the only kid he ever mentions in his posts.
It seems he thinks Coal Grove cannot win unless they play his boy more. What happen to team!!!!!

bruiser wrote:friday, you have no clue who i am. i just believe i know talent when i see it and it isn't being used correctly at the grove. watch the games. the 3 boys that didn't play fb this year are in the game most of the time. the others get taken in and out about 500 times. they know if they make one little mistake there going out of the game.
we know who hired ward, their not in control now. the new regime starts today so we will see what happens when the truth comes out. and by the way having one of the cg adm. who helped hire him refereeing a bunch of his games is flat out wrong.
how is cg's jv and freshman teams doing with 2 of wards former managers coaching them.looks like you would have to have some kind of basketball background to be able to coach.
Ok - now I got an entire thread deleted on this very forum and got a nasty little PM from a site administrator for making comments like this about another bball coach whose name will not be mentioned (actually, I didn't do anything besides state the team's record but apperantly that was a no-no).
Hey - here's a thought: maybe the three kids who didn't play football truly are the best players? I know the three you're talking about - used to play bball with two of them a lot at the courts in CG. They're VERY GOOD ball players and I PROMISE YOU that everyone on that team who was being honest would tell you that those kids are the worthy of their time.
The people who hired Ward should have their hand shaken and be offered a cigar for DOING THE RIGHT THING AND GOING OUTSIDE THE POLITICAL SYSTEM TO GET SOMEONE WHO'S HAD REAL SUCCESS WHEREVER HE'S BEEN.
Coal Grove is notorious for having homers ref games - there's nothing unusual about it at all.
How good have the freshman and JV teams been recently, period?
Re: Symmes Valley @ Coal Grove
i agree 110% with fuzzhead. ward has done a great job at coal grove and will continue to do so no matter what people say about him. he is a great coach. period
Re: Symmes Valley @ Coal Grove
I seem to remember in the old days that when Salyers and Lucas coached together every time someone was taken out of the game Lucas was very vocal with each player. I also remember that athletes played all sports period. If you did not play football in the fall you ran cross country. During the winter you either played basketball or powerlifted and in the spring either track or baseball. Majority of each athlete played 3 sports a year. Football players played basketball more than they do now when Dave Lucas was the varsity asst. bball coach and they were more succesful as a result.
Lets get back to encouraging kids to enjoy their high school experience, play all sports, supports you friends while they play and you dont and have a great experience.
Good luck Grove, Coach Ward, and all the participating student athletes.

I see what you're trying to say (very good post, btw). However, you have to realize that the fact that kids aren't playing as many sports these days has to do a lot more with the kids themselves than it does with the coaches. Back then, kids didn't have all the distractions they do today. Kids are a lot less active now than they used to be - that's why America is a country of fat people.
The kids being mentioned (to my knowledge) have never even had an interest in football - that's their choice. Now do I think they should train and get in shape? Absolutely. From what I understand, Ward is very strict about conditioning. IMO, a few good Cross Country practices over the summer and during the fall would do wonders for athletes, as well - a few miles a day does wonders for endurance, even if they aren't very fast.
So if a coach has a kid who doesn't want to play football, but who also works out in the gym under the coach's supervision and applies himself to the game and has talent and listens to everything the coach says... Don't you think the coach will be more willing to start him than a kid who's been playing football all season and who may come to open gym if he's not completely worn out from FB practice - and even then the coach won't know his game or how he can be utilized as well as he knows the kid who played bball.
It's not that the coach has a grudge against football players, it's just that he'a been working with the other guys longer and he knows what they can do, so he'll be more inclined to play them more, at least to start off the season.... It's a long season - stuff happens... line-up changes are made... relax and cheer on the team....
GO HORNETS!
