Portsmouth @ Wilmington

Post by TrojanXplosion »

Portsmouth will score a lot of points......
Can the defense come through?

If Portsmouth has any D what so ever, they could have a good year.

I have no idea about how good Wilmington will be this year, but I am sure pulling for Portsmouth! I would like to see them have a solid year.

I totally agree with FalconFan........our defense is the key to the Trojans' success this year........if we can hold opponents to under 20 PPG, we should have a winning season........Wilmington was a tough game last year for PHS, with the Trojans winning 14-7.........I know that they have a junior running back returning who was about 6-3, 215 lbs. last year. This will be a real test for PHS, and a win will certainly give us a good start on computer points.

GO TROJANS!!

Wilmington is the most physical team the Trojans will face this year in my opinion. They will be a tough matchup for the Trojans that's for sure. If the Trojans can pull this one off it could mean big points down the road. GO TROJANS

Don’t know much about The Hurricane. What I remembered from last year was a very large backs and power running. Although they were big I don’t remember any blazing speed. I think the Trojans can slow there run game down because of this, mainly because without that speed big plays will be limited. The D only gave up 7 against them last year. The D was pretty rough last year, not sure if they are better this year or not really but I do think they are a more athletic D, and could be better only time will tell. They have had moments in scrimmages where they looked horrible, and others when they look good. Lots of these guys are learning on the fly. Also I look for PHS to give the Hurricane bad field position with the kicking ability of Zaide Whitley.
On the other side of the ball, Wayne, Zaide, LJ, Austin, Duke, (Johnnie, Dion) and Mason are some very good athletes that most schools will have a hard time finding away to keep all covered. The line however must be able to give Mason a chance to throw. If not he will be forced to run for his life which will result in INTs and incompletions, and if we are not a passing threat Duke and Johnnie will have a hard time running the ball. I’ve said it all summer, we must be able to block up front. If we can do that Mason is a good enough QB with good enough athletes around him that we can put up a lot of points. Point is good protection and we have a chance to win every game on the schedule.
It’s time to see how much we have learned since last year. I will say I thought we looked better against Valley than we did Minford so I believe things are headed in the right direction.

Also don’t think Wilmington is the most physical team West, and Ironton, are both more physical in my opinion.

Game day.....Trojans need to commit to stopping the run and knowing their assignments on both sides of the ball to get past the Hurricane tonight! Best of luck and Go Trojans!!!

If Portsmouth plays with a better effort on defense tonight compared to anytime last year, they will win. Stay focused and don't fall asleep. With just an "ok" defense, this team could turn some heads. They will score points.

So, no stupid turnovers and play an ok defensive game, we will be talking about the Trojans being 1-0 , playing with a ton of momentum heading into next week.

Wilmington is big, but not very physical, or talented. I watched wilmington struggle with Greenfield McClain who was much smaller, but more physical. I think Portsmouth can win by a td

Has Portsmouth missed all PAT's, or has 2 pt conversion been unsuccessful? I've heard good things about Whitley kicking but have yet to get the opportunity to see him kick yet..
