Re: Division IV Sectionals at Lucasville Valley
manchester is not to bad this year but western in my opinion has the edge on them! they play at the indians house and rarely get beat in front of their home crowd!!! and also manchesters big guy wont be able to handle vince shanks inside... but i cant predict the future so i will have to wait until Febuary 13th to see if i am right!!!

Western 23, I believe you might be mistaken on MHS being able to handle Shanks. Shanks is a nice post player but plays soft. MHS has more than one big, and will be able to handle Shanks on the post better than you think. I think the question is can Western handle Manchester's post play??
Re: Division IV Sectionals at Lucasville Valley
I have to agree 'out of bounds'- The hounds can put either one of the three 6-4 players on him or put the Hanson kid on him, he is strong and can sit down and play 'D'! Manchester has more offensive weapons then Western, just look at the Whiteoak game, I heard the sophmore had a double-double to lead the Hounds in a close one! It will be interesting to see how the draw goes down, I can see the SOC voting Western to the 1 seed, and then Manchester going up to send a message and prove a point, being their game is after the draw!

doesn't shanks spend a lot of time on the outside jacking up 3's?

Re: Division IV Sectionals at Lucasville Valley
Agree....survived a very good Fairfield team.
No one would have their record playing their schedule in this sectional.......many winning teams in this sectional might have inverted records with their schedule....minus Fairfield

Re: Division IV Sectionals at Lucasville Valley
the soc 1 teams would have even worse records if they had to play crossover games against soc 2 teams like the shl does.

With the number of schools the SOC has this would be impossible. The SHL has 10 teams total. The SOC has 16.
The records have been updated.
Any corrections, please post.
Thanks.

After Western just got drilled last night by 20 from a 4-11 team, does everyone still think that there going to be the #1 seed?

Re: Division IV Sectionals at Lucasville Valley
Just an interesting tid bit of information. The Soc 1 teams have a collective 6 non-conference wins as of right now (last week in January). I would probably bet that number wont go above 10 for the entire regular season. I do believe Eastern has about 50/50 chance at Northwest this week - that might put them up to 7 wins. Anybody want to add up the non-conference wins of the Shl teams? lol

That has alot to do with SOC teams playing 14 league games. So you can't really go off that useless informaton.

Re: Division IV Sectionals at Lucasville Valley
useless information??? Almost every league plays around 14 games!!! Im sorry, but year after year they dont beat anyone outside of their own league. Your viewpoint might be a little different because you follow Eastern Pike and they do win a few non-conference games every year but the rest of the conference does not.

It's not useless information rather something coaches should consider when determining seeds and evaluating the overall quality of teams. It's nothing against the SOC I, its great that the league is competitive. The fact is the league is the weakest in Southern Ohio.

Re: Division IV Sectionals at Lucasville Valley
hook em horns,
Western and Eastern both had tough non league schedules this season. So I don't see how you can blame the coaches for who they played this year.As for the weakest league comment,I believe it is the only school in Southern Ohio with all D4 schools. What do you expect?Although I would argue it is just as strong of a conference as the TVC Hocking division(mostly d4 aso).If you guys just wantme to admit the SHL is better, thats fine...I admit it.BUT........all your schools are in the same conference D3 or D4.Lets combine the SOC1 and SOC 2.....then we got another story huh?Alot of the SOC 1 schools play SOC 2 schools in non conference matchups.Of course the small league is'nt going to have a impressive non conference record.I've typed this 10 times but I'll say it again:Eastern plays a tough non conference schedule they play:Waverly,Minford,Northwest,Southeastern,Coal Grove, and Western.
Western plays:Piketon,Huntington,Manchester,Valley,Paint Valley,and Eastern.
Now.....your arguement is the teams in the SOC should schedule tougher non league.Who do you want them to schedule?Oak Hill Academy,Mater Dei,Col.Northland, and Day.Dunbar.I mean come on.I'll call coach Fitch this evening and tell him his impressive non league schedule is'nt impressive enough for some people.Maybe he can replace the Holiday tourney next year with 2 of these Elite programs.
I have no problem with the SHL......It is a great league with some great teams......I don't see anyone beating North Adams this season.Peebles is a great ball club,Manchester is very impressive,as is Fairfield but some people on here do not want to even acknowledge that the SOC has good ball teams as well.I am biased and so are all of you torward your school or conference. That is fine and the way it should be so this arguement will never die.Good luck to all area teams!

I believe, my OPINION, is that people are arguing with you because they feel Manchester is a better ball club then Western. You cant compare their non-league schedule with anyone else besides maybe Fairfield. They have played North Adams, still have to play them again, Ironton when they were all healthy, Washington Court House, Rose Hill... all being on the road. Then in league they have played Peebles, Fairfield twice and Eastern. Their first half of the season was all played on the road, only 3 home games so far: Clay, Eastern and Fairfield.
Then after Western loses to Paint Valley who is what, 4-11, you still think they should get the 1 over Manchester. Come on, we all know you are a faithful SOC 1 fan, but give credit where credit is due, Manchester deserves the 1. Western needs to be worrying about not losing anymore and being happy if they can get the 2 seed.

Beaver,
You make a lot of good points in your post that I agree with and its not Eastern Pike or Western Pike's fault they have to play everyone else in the SOC twice. My thesis is that when evaluating schools for seeding purposes the quality of wins matter not necessarily the number of wins.

I never said I felt Western deserved the #1 seed(not after last night). The question was asked if I thought they would still get the #1 seed. After Western's performance last night......Manchester definitely deserves it right now.But that was not the Western team I seen play 3 times this year.Alot can still change though.
