Re: Southern Ohio Magic AAU accepting coaches applications
What tournaments did you play in? There are tournaments that are more expensive than others. Did your team and/or teams play in tournaments with cost of $275.00-$300.00 per team? Did your teams go to state or national tournamemnts? Does your organization have a web site that keeps track and post stats? Southern Ohio Magic is a non-profit organization and offers our teams tournaments of their choice and encourages our teams to play in tournaments against the best teams possible. Yes, there are tournaments of $75.00 per team, but you don't compete against the best competition to make your players and/or teams better. My daughter played for another AAU team prior to Southern Ohio Magic and the cost was greater than Southern Ohio Magic. You must have sponsors... How many teams do you have as I don't recall South Central Rebels?
If you carried 10 players charging $200.00...the cost of 7 tournaments alone would firgure to $287.71 and this does NOT include your home and away uniforms, tennis shoes, practice jerseys, warmups, shooting shirts, and travel bag. Therefore, your cost of your uniforms, tennis shoes, etc. would greatly take away from your tournament fees so I can assume that your team or teams played in tournaments of $75.00-$100.00.
So...I don't see where our fee of last year of $225.00 per returning players and $275.00 for new players is that expensive. You tell me!!!

Re: Southern Ohio Magic AAU accepting coaches applications
lightle04...I just spoke with AAU personally and they don't have South Central Rebels registered as an AAU organization for 2008 or 2009 under Ohio or West Virginia. Are you from another state? If so, what state are you out of? Southern Ohio Magic pays their fees and insurance through AAU and our players register each year. Our coaches register each year. Would love to know if your team and/or teams are AAU sanctioned.

SO OHIO MAGIC
You are correct in the fact that many organizations claim to be AAU, but in actuality are not. They do play spring/summer ball but play in non-AAU tournaments. They never register with AAU or play in district (state) tournaments or go to the AAU Nationals.
This does not mean they aren't out there playing in tournaments and practicing and seeing improvements in their kids though. They are just advertising incorrectly and they may in fact have some very talented players.
The costs of the SO OHIO MAGIC are very much in line with a normal AAU program and in fact I've seen several others that cost more to be a part of than what you charge.
Best of luck to both organizations and I do know both parties involved in this.

I never said they didn't have talented players nor would I ever put down a player. My point is and as you indicated there are teams out there calling themselves AAU teams and never pay the required fees for their teams. This is misleading to the parents, players, other teams, etc. They questioned our sign-up fees and I made it very clear to all for our charge for each player. What...$25.00 to $75.00 more??? Along with their fees, Southern Ohio Magic provides them with their home and away uniforms, tournaments, AAU fees, insurance, equipment, etc. Yes, they can play in tournaments that are not AAU sanctioned but it is Southern Ohio Magic's goal for every team to play in state and National tournaments for the exposure for each and every player. At least we are trying to do something positive for southern Ohio and the surrounding areas. This is the beginning of our third year and we have grown. Hopefully we will see more Southern Ohio Magic teams go play for state and Nationals. Along with that...Southern Ohio Magic is in the process of trying to get their own facility for practices of all our teams, hold our own tournaments which would bring revenue to Southern Ohio, etc. This will require a lot of fundraising, a lot of work and commitment from our board members. Every board member and all coaches volunteers their time to this organization and appreciate all of them.
I appreciate your comments and support also.

Re: Southern Ohio Magic AAU accepting coaches applications
Coaches can complete applications at signups on Sunday, February 8, 2009 from 3:00 to 5:00 at the Vern Riffe School, 2619 Gallia Street, Portsmouth, Ohio.
Re: Southern Ohio Magic AAU accepting coaches applications
All interested coaches can print off a coach application from our web site at www.southernohiomagic.org and mail it in. Or you can pick up an application at sign-ups.
Re: Southern Ohio Magic AAU accepting coaches applications
Can Jr. high school coaches sign up? I think coach Whitt, and coach Compton would be great at this.
Re: Southern Ohio Magic AAU accepting coaches applications
Yes they can complete an application; however, they cannot coach anyone from their own team if they are still under contract with the school.

I don't think they actually hire a coach as that would indicate a paid position. These coaching positions would all be "free gratus". As enthusaistic as you are on these boards you would be a good one to get involved in this.

Does anyone know if they have hired anyone yet?
