Would SOC allow Ironton and Portsmouth....?

Would the SOC allow Portsmouth and Ironton to join their conference as non competing members? Now before anyone gets too excited hear me out.

If Ironton and/or Portsmouth would leave the SEOAL, it would be to either join another conference or go indy. Most likely indy, because of lack of conference opportunity. We would probably agree that the reason for keeping these two out would be past successes in football and basketball. Ironton and Portsmouth could bring some good gate revenues to most if not all of the SOC member schools. The close distance for Ironton and Portsmouth to play opponents would also help those two schools economically.

How about letting Ironton and Portsmouth join the SOCII and compete against all schools in the conference for scheduling, but not for title competition? If not allowed to join, these two schools would be indy and not competing for titles anyway. Scheduling would be easier, closer and gate receipts would be larger.

Another thought would be to maybe have some type of revenue share plan for the smaller conference schools. Maybe that would sway them to vote to allow them in the SOCII. Maybe the bigger schools could take $500 or so of their gate receipts and put into a pot and distribute it out to the smaller schools. Not much but it is something.

If they are part of the conference, they would compete in it for the conference title in each sport. Its just the way it is.

it would never work for them to be part of it and not be able to win the title....that would be a serious can of worms to open.

From the schools perspective, i dont think it would be anything, other than a way to schedule local games. The alternative is independent and you cant win a conference title that way either. it would benefit the conference teams by having a good, revenue generating school to play each year.

Lets face it, the only reason these two schools would be denied, is a perceived opinion that they would win the league every year. Take that element away and all you have left is good competition and a positive revenue stream for all schools. I dont see the negative here.

This looks nice. You could also throw in sorta of a relegation system similar to the Premier League in England. The winner of SOC II would switch with the last place team of the Super Division or something similar to that.

I'm sure that if Portsmouth or Ironton would win all there games. That we whould never hear on here, or see t-shirts in Portsmouth, saying who the "real" SOC champ is. Non the less I am from West and we use to play both. I think we can compete better now if we let Ironton in than in the past. It would make teams more prepared for the playoffs. You need to play up like Amanda Clearcreek can be .500 and make the playoffs. Not like Valley (in the past) go undefeated and stay home. Most teams already play Portsmouth anyway.

Even though, Ironton and Portsmouth would probably, compete for the title year in and year out , but the past two years would have been an exception. Ironton has beaten by burg the past two years and may of lost to West this year. Portsmouth (who would have won at least a 1/3 of the title in 07), seems to have 1 or 2 very good teams followed by 1 or 2 down teams. I think with West, Waverly Minford, and Burg seeming to have a established programs (Burg has one), an Soc with Ironton and P-town would be closer than most think.

i'd like to see ironton enter some kind of league. but again , i liked the seoal. in football. but i realize the travel problems for the other sports. zanesville or logan, on a week night for a basketball , or baseball game has the kids getting home extremely late. but then again , i've never believed in mandatory homework either. that would help. the teachers have these students all day, between homework, sports, meals, there is no time for a home life at all.
