Wheelersburg @ Valley Friday, Jan 23
Wheelersburg @ Valley Friday, Jan 23
The Indians and Pirates both coming off wins tonight, sets up a BIG game for both teams on friday night. Wheelersburg won the first matchup of the two, but everyone knows that has no bearing on this game the way the SOC2 has been this season. Burg is 7-1 and SOC2 play, and Valley is 6-2.
Wheelersburg slowed the tempo down last game, and the shots the Indians got were not falling. I expect a BIG atmosphere friday night, and a GREAT game.

I like Burg by 3. Valley makes it close late. Both teams are awesome. It could really go either way. If Burg youngins play the game Barrick wants them to play, they have the means to shut any team down for 4 quarters. Valley could be the next! Good luck Burg!!

the two best coaches in the SOC II but I like Burg at home.

I agree that the BURG really slowed the tempo last time and I feel that the same will happen again.

The game is at Valley.
This is going to be the biggest game in Valley's gym since around 03-04. The thing that decides this game is tempo. If Valley gets the game going up and down, they can win. If the Burg slows it down and plays in the half court, they will win.
That is the big difference to me. I feel that Burg could win playing Valley's pace, but I don't think Valley can win playing Burg's pace. Either way, I expect a much better game than the first time around. I love that Valley has a win over Oak Hill under there belt and that the Indians are undefeated at home. This is going to be a great ball game.

I listened to the first game on the radio, and I remember Valley being like 3 of 20 from beyond the 3 point line, and were also not so great from the FT line, and I dont expect the same type of situation this time around. If Valley wins this game, it can be the game that propels them to the SOC2 crown.
I'll be watching this one on the Web for sure!

I don't look for this game to be high scoring. Burg has a way of controlling the tempo as is indicated by there first 12 games. No one has even scored in the 60's on them yet. I just don't see it happening in this game. This is probably one of the better defensive teams that Coach Barrick has had and the scary thing is that they are all back next year, some the next two to three years.

You live and die by the three. If your team is taking that many three's a game and they are not hitting, then yes, it is going to be a long night. I think also that Burg's defensive pressure on the shooter might have also had something to do with some of the poor shooting from behind the arc. That is not a very high percentage shot and usually when you miss, it leads to a long rebound that sets up a possible fastbreak for the other team.
I'll say Burg 51-46

I think the Burg will control the tempo in this game as they have all season. With great pressure on the outside shooting, Burg rolls in this one as well.

Should be a good one... i am going to have to go with Valley in this one simply because i believe they are a slightly better team. That along with homecourt advantage puts Valley up by 8 at the 32 minute mark.
Valley - 64
Burg - 56
Valley - 64
Burg - 56
Re: Wheelersburg @ Valley Friday, Jan 23
if stegman can stay out of foul trouble valley cannot stop him. tempo is the key. burg can slow the pace and won't be lured into a fast paced style of play. should be fun to watch.

There is a coach up north you are forgetting about that has over 500 wins, there are a lot of coaches in the SOC II with that many wins, right?

Re: Wheelersburg @ Valley Friday, Jan 23
Valley was able to beat Oak Hill without stopping Hale on the inside, the difference will be Valley's outside shooting. Valley is so tough to guard man to man, I haven't seen anyone really stop Yates or Cunningham off the dribble, but shooting the 3 ball has been a weakness. Utley and Arbaugh both have a nice touch from outside, but they have also struggled outside enough to cause concern for the Indians. Once again the Indians must create turnovers and shoot a reasonable percentage from deep in order to win the game. Burg will try to slow down the game, but hopefully Valley will have enough backcourt pressure that Burg will be forced into a faster game. I didn't see the first matchup, so I don't really have a prediction except I think it will be an exciting night of basketball.
My two cents on the coaches
1. Barrick
2. Persin
everybody else.... (although I like the job coach V has done with the boys)

And just how many of those wins did he get in the SOC? He got the bulk of those while coaching at Chesapeake in one of the weakest conferences in the area. Look at his head to head record with the Burg and then talk to me. He even lost to a Burg team with a 11-9 record in the sectionals when he was 20-0 and ranked #1 in the state.

The OVC was not always like it is currently. In the past, (80-1999) it was a very good conference. Also, the idea that Villinger is one of the top coaches in the conference to me is hard to say at this point. This is merely year two and let's face it, from 1-8, Valley is one of the top two (along with Waverly) talented teams in the league imho.

with the way valley has been playing and the defeat of oak hill...this will be a good one. Yates and Utley on tuesday played great....utley had 25. if burg cant slow them down it is over for sure for the pirates but if they slow the tempo down it will be way too close to tell
My prediction:
Valley:68
Burg:59
GO VALLEY!!!!!!!!!
