Re: Wheelersburg @ Valley Friday, Jan 23
The game BG77 is talking about was in the 91-92 season. Jonathon Eaton was Freshmen that year and Lovenguth waits until the tourney to start playing him on the varsity and it pays off. Burg starts off the tourney by knocking off 20-0 and No. 1 in the state Chesapeake in the sectionals at Rock Hill. They then go on a run and make it to the regional final game before falling to Sparta Highland and 7'2" Jason Terry. Burg was playing right with them right up until Sparta put in what we were told, a seldom used player to get in the face of Burg PG Cris Carter and it worked as the two got into a fight on the court, which got both players elected. Burg had trouble with the sparta press after that and just seemed to not be able to get back into the groove.

In the first game at burg valley was a little intimidated with the crowd and big game atmosphere, but come friday night Valley will be raining down the 3`s on Burg. Valley beat Oak Hill so they now believe they will beat the Burg. Valley is expecting their biggest crowd in years to come out for this one, and remember "friends don`t let friends wear black and Orange". Go Valley everyone likes when Burg gets beat and friday night Valley gets the job done.

I dont think Valley lives and dies by the 3, I was just pointing out a few stats from the loss @ Burg. FT's made a difference as well....this game will be mostly won/lost on tempo and FT shooting.

I have not noticed Valley living or dying by the three. To me, they thrive on penetration and the ability to put four or five kids on the court at the same time who can take the ball to the hole. The three's I've seen them take, for the most part, have been solid looks that any coach I've ever been associated with would want his players to take.
As my boy Crab posted above, I didn't get to see the first match-up between these two, so I don't have a predicition. Having followed along with what both teams have done so far, I have no reason to think that it will be anything other than an excellent ballgame between two very solid teams, with very contrasting styles. I'm with everyone else...the team that can impose it's will on the other and force the other to play their style, will be in the best position to win.

^^^ No doubt, how far back we going?
I mean are these people tailgating in the 20 something degree weather? I mean come on....This "crowd" we speak of may want to go back and review some tapes of 1999-01
I'm just saying.....

I can't wait for this one tonight. should be a great game and good luck to both teams. The best part of all of this is neither team was picked to be at the top of the race this year and here they are. I love it. I have to give it to Barrick he definitely coaches to his strengths. I'm not from burg but I am very closely involved in our area basketball and he is top notch. Having said all that I don't think I can even give a very educated guess on the outcome of this one. Guess we'll see. good luck boys.

Burgs a one man team, shut him down and Valley will win!!!!
Re: Wheelersburg @ Valley Friday, Jan 23
Valley barely has any fans sitting in the upper deck at their home games, but I expect that to be a little different tonight. It is funny but I think everybody in the area loves it when the Burg loses just because of how their fans act , even a few on this site. When they get beat it is always someone elses fault and their fans are never gracious winners. They are always the first ones to start talking crap. I hope valley lays it on them big tonight.

Here's the thing. I agree you shut Stegman down you greatly increase your chances of winning but who does valley have thats going to shut him down. With the exception of Andy getting into foul trouble in the Northwest game no one has really been able to shut him down this year.
This game is going to be like the first one. It will be a low scoring affair and Wheelersburg is goin to slow down the tempo and take away valley's strength of pushing the ball up he court and force Valley to beat them in a half court set.

I have rarely seen Wheelersburg fans make excuses. Most of the ones that are on here take a loss in stride and go on to the next game. Matter of fact when Wheelersburg does lose they get on post and praise the other team. Unlike other teams fans that I have seen in the past they talk a lot of crap then when Wheelersburg does win you never see them again. Bottom line is everybody hates Wheelersburg because of the all the success they have.
