Local girls to play at next level
Local girls to play at next level
Three area volleyball players have signed to play at the University of Rio Grande next year.
Sharissa Cooper from Jackson, Erin Sherman from South Webster and Tresa Swatzel from Eastern Reedsville will all play for the Red Storm next fall.
Congratulations to the girls on getting the opportunity to play college ball.

SWEET!!!! I am so happy for them! Best wishes for a great season!!
Re: Local girls to play at next level
Have any of the seniors from the "State Champion" Spartan team signed to play volleyball at any colleges?
Re: Local girls to play at next level
I think that 3 or 4 of the Spartans are getting looks/offers. Just haven't made their decisions yet.
Re: Local girls to play at next level
You can add Erin Moore from South Webster to the list. She signed her letter of intent to play at Rio today. "E square" will continue on in college!!

My daughter, Rachel Walker plays on the team at Rio and she really loves it there. She likes Coach Donaldson and has had a great two years there. Good luck to the new recruits!
Re: Local girls to play at next level
I've heard Rachel can jump thru the roof! I know that the program has stuggled in the past but I think it is headed in the right direction now under the new coach.

Re: Local girls to play at next level
Whitney Smith just signed her letter to play at Rio. What a class Coach Donaldson has put together.
Re: Local girls to play at next level
The Red Storm is signing a very talented freshman class. The team will be young but will have a lot of girls that have played a lot of top notch volleyball. I for one am excited to watch this team compete.
Re: Local girls to play at next level
Now Coach Donaldson needs to get the other 3 or 4 girls from Alexander to take her team to a serious contender. I'm sure with one Alex player at Shawnee State, that coach will look at what's left from a State Championship team.
Re: Local girls to play at next level
What Alex player is playing at Shawnee State?
Congrats to all!
Congrats to all!
Re: Local girls to play at next level
Jamie Turrell started her collegiate career at U. of Chareslton and transferred to Shawnee. She was DI material coming out of Alex. She dominates the front line for Shawnee.

Re: Local girls to play at next level
When did Jamie Turrell transfer? Did she play the 08 season for the Bears? And who all is going to Rio Grande for this upcoming season? Is no one going anywhere else like the NCAA DIII or DII?
Re: Local girls to play at next level
Turrell played her freshman year at Charleston. She transferred and started her sophmore year at Shawnee. She was a major player for the Bears last year.
Ashley Jordan from Adena will play at OU next year.
The freshman players for Rio next year will be:
Erin Sherman and Erin Moore - South Webster
Whitney Smith - Alexander
Sharissa Cooper - Jackson
Tresa Switzel - Eastern Reedsville
Micah Motes - Unioto (sorry if I spelled any names wrong)
The rest of the Alexander freshman are either still looking or have made a decision, just not sure where.

Re: Local girls to play at next level
That is very exciting to have so many girls playing college ball. Are there any older girls still playing? Maybe girls from Nelsonville...I think her name was Bateman or Whitney maybe? I know Winebrenner is not playing college ball anymore. But who are our vets still playing?
Re: Local girls to play at next level
Jordan Bateman played at Cleveland State University and is graduating this spring.
Whitney Maiden played at OU and is also graduating this spring.
Ashleigh Fitterer played at the University of Charelston and gradauted last spring.
All three are NY graduates.
