Word is that Jackson has signed a four year contract with West Jefferson starting in 2013 week 3. Game will be there in 2013 and at Jackson in 2014. That still leaves an open date for week 3 2012 though. So with Wheelersburg and West Jeff coming onto Jackson's non-league schedule, along with Athens (starting in 2012), it seems that the school is trying to beef up its schedule somewhat.

Having come from the league where West Jeff plays and having been in the SEOAL against Jackson the last few years, I can tell you that this will be a fantastic matchup. West Jeff is one of the perennially successful small school programs in Central Ohio. This is a matchup I'd love to see most years.

In an effort to fill 2012 week 3, Jackson approached Portsmouth West. West needs an opponent. They need an away game, Jackson needs a home game. The travel would be minimal. It seemed like the perfect opportunity for two storied programs to meet on the gridiron in the regular season.....but...... West declined the invitation.

West Jeff is coached by Wellston native, Shawn Buescher, so that connection likely had something to do with making this happen. Coach Buescher, and his wife, have family in Jackson County.

I'm definitely excited about the series with West Jeff. Coach Buescher has a great thing going there. The Rough Riders have been outstanding for several years and have had some playoff success as well. This game will provide stiff competition for the Ironmen, and a ton of computer points if they're fortunate enough to win.

Still anxious to see who Jackson picks up for Week 3 next season. Anybody hearing anything about that? Last I heard, it looked like Hilliard Darby was a good possibility.
