Re: Portsmouth athletic complex finally started!
I have heard a rumor that the complex is already over budget, what was to be 10 million has turned into 30 million, and that they may try to pass a levy for the rest. Any truth to this ? If so I don’t think there is chance this would pass. Also how do they plan on paying the $10,000 a year rent?

I would say it will probably be over budget but from 10 to 30 million would be rediculous.

Re: Portsmouth athletic complex finally started!
I have heard about accomodations of course for the Trojan football team as far as locker rooms and bathroom facilities; concession on home side!
Are they going to have locker rooms for the away team? Is there going to be restrooms and concession on the away side? If not; would'nt this be the same as Spartan! Just newer and closer! And, way more expensive!

the field house is on the south end, the concession is in the front of it, and restrooms ,,in the same place.
home and away, will have the same distance to walk.

rent? i thought they paid for the property and it cost them more than orginally thought.
I think we still have to pay a leasing fee or something.
no big deal, we will be charging to park

Re: Portsmouth athletic complex finally started!
My understanding is that they did purchase the property, however it is not owned by the Portsmouth city school district it is owned by the donor of the 10 million. So the school doesn't own it and is expected to pay $10,000 a year rent. ( which is way more then they paid for Spartan) I just don't see any extra cash in the budget for rent. Also if it is over budget where is that coming for, because I don't think a levy will pass. In the original press release Jan Broughton the superintendent at the time said the complex will not cost the tax payers any money. I don’t see how that could be.

Re: Portsmouth athletic complex finally started!
Also I was wondering where everyone is going to practice, with only one field. Currently we use 3 fields outside of Spartan for 7th, 8th, J.V., Varsity, and some years Freshmen not to mention the band which only recently started using a empty lot behind the school. I see no practice fields on the diagram so what gives? Also can we use a sled on the turf without tearing it up?
Re: Portsmouth athletic complex finally started!
the practice fields they use now, are owned by the schools, so my guess would be, they will still practice down there?

I thought one of the big problems with Spartan was that it wasn't close enough to the school. They wanted a facility there so our kids wouldn't have to find a way to practice each day. This means we will have to rent the locker rooms at the Spartan from the city. This seems odd to say the least since the school said Spartan was structurally unsound. We will also have to bring all of the pads up for Friday night. It will be like an away game every night.

hey, Im only guessing, I have no idea what the plan is.
I just figure, the school owns the practice fields, they would still use them.

Re: Portsmouth athletic complex finally started!
Why would the city or Notre Dame allow PHS to use the locker rooms in the stadium? PHS told the city and Notre Dame to take a hike when they wanted the new facilities! Sounds like they want to abuse and use Spartan Stadium and ND for practices and take their ball home and play in the new stadium on Fridays!
I for one wouldn't blame the city or ND if they said take a walk! No party rooms available here no more!

like posted above,PCS, OWNS all the practice fields, so they dont have to ASK, N D , or the City for permission to use them.

Where is ND going to play their home games next season? Will it be at the new field?

They will play at Spartan with I heard the chance to buy it and I am sure they are already making plans to fix it. Just hope they stay on Saturday night home games.

As an alum I think I have the right to ask questions. I hope for the best with the new complex but I have some concerns about what I have heard about it and the fact that we won't own in. I still think we would have been better off at Spartan.
Even if the schools does own the fields down by the stadium, our locker room is inside the stadium, which we would have to rent form the city. So there is another expense to add on to the $10,000 we have to pay to play on property that the district has owned since 1913 when the old school was built. This just seems like an odd thing to do for an athletic department that allowed the football team to only have one pair of game pants a few years back. ( till the fathers club stepped up and bought some new ones.) Hey maybe they struck oil out there and didn't tell us.
More and more things about this project seem odd to me. I think we haven't been told everything.

Someone ask about if Portsmouth would use the lockerrooms at the stadium during practices! That is what I was commenting on! ND and the city tell PHS take a hike!

Re: Portsmouth athletic complex finally started!
I've heard that due to the economy (investments) that the new sports complex located next to Portsmouth High School has had a couple of the projects postponed and maybe even cancelled; one of the sports fields and the tennis courts.
I just copied this information off of another local website word for word! Does anyone know if this is true? Again, this is new information as of today! Things may have changed since last week!

I agree; not being told everything!
Re: Portsmouth athletic complex finally started!
Wow! Everybody needs to relax. This is going to be the best facility in Ohio after its completed. I think there are alot of people that don't want this to happen and are full of "envey and jealousy". For what reason , I don't know. But the fact is, it is happening and its for the kids and community of Portsmouth. Quit being so negative and accept that soon a new page will be added in Portsmouth Trojan History. Just sit back and see what happens, because if you don't know what's going on, just be patient and you soon will. Sure there has been cuts from the original plans. But in many projects all over the country cuts have been made. Just remember that this will not only help the businesses in the downtown area, but also help Portsmouth restore the Trojan Pride, City Wide.
