Vinton County bball vs. Ross county
Just an interesting tidbit of information but the only 4 losses that Vinton county has suffered since the 06-07 season has been at the hands of ross county teams, including chillictohe twice, who won the state championship last year. Just coincidence or is there something about the county of the west???? in my opinion the only team that was superior in those losses were chilli, the other two were down to the wire losses

huckleberry,
That is an interesting stat, but I really don't think there is much to it. Chillicothe has just been better and the Huntington team last year was very talented with the Kelloughs. During this same stretch, VC has beaten ZT last year and SE two or three times as well. I just think certain years give fans different match-ups. Some years teams meet and both enter undefeated and other years you have two solid programs having down years and people do not get as excited.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that VC is known for playing a notoriously weak schedule, in comparison to their talent level. Out of the 4 losses, 2 were to SVC schools, and the other were involuntary games with Chillicothe. They are stuck in the TVC and that is not their fault but if they want success in the postseason they shouldn't play SVC schools. No D-2 school should for that matter. I doubt they would schedule Chilli in the regular season. Huntington is a respectable loss, but they still should schedule up and take a few more L's during the regular season in order to get a few more W's in the post season.

I disagree with this statement.
The SVC most years is a very competitive league.
Chillicothe has played in the past SE and Lost.
Played Unioto at Unioto and Lost.
VC plays in a league that most years is not very talented.
It is not their fault. Non league this year the play Warren who just beat Chillicothe.
They Play Piketon who is arguably one of the top 5 teams in SE OHio.

VC does not play Warren this year. However they did scrimmage them. VC has a pretty good non conference scedule this year with Logan, South Point, Piketon, Waverly, Jackson, and Zane Trace. Its not as brutal as the SEOL but improved from past years. The TVC is typically a good conferece but as of late with the exception of Alex this year and VC it has been down. VC will be fine with the scedule they have and wouldnt be surprised to see them make another run in "the 2nd season"

I have to agree with gymratt. No disrespect at all to the SVC, but the league will not get VC ready for the D2 tourney run. IMO you have to play teams that you are not supposed to beat. That allows you to understand what it takes to get to the next level. To much success can put you asleep at the wheel. I beleive Coach Combs has put together a tremendous program down there, so whatever he is doing works.
As for Chilly losing to Unioto, the Tanks are a D2 school, so I would somewhat discount that. I will not go into the low levels of dispair that Chilly went into during that time frame.
GO CAVS!!!

The year they lost to Unioto
Unioto was DIII
I have the utmost respect for Chillicothe Basketball program.
I hate to see people come on here and bash another program to promote their own.
Chillicothe right now is the big dog in DII until someone knocks them off.
I do however see another dog coming named Logan Elm.
Can't wait for that matchup at the Convo. I just hope it will not be at 10am in the morning.lol

This is a ridiculous statement. They made it to the regionals last year. Do you actually think they would have beat Chillicothe had they played a tougher non-league schedule? Chillicothe was the best team in the state in D2, Vinton County made it as far as they possibly could have.

bengalfan76,
Not sure who is bashing another program to promote their own. I have the utmost respect for Coach Combs and the VC program. I said nothing about the Sherman Tanks other then they are now D2, so I can understand VC scheduling them. Chilly losing to them during that time in Chilly's history has nothing to do with Unioto. Whether the Tanks were D1 or D4 they still probably win.
I am on here to say that teams that schedule up in competion find a way to overcome during tourney time. Wheelersburg to me is perfect example. Barrick plays a pretty tough non-conference schedule. VC may be just an issue of getting teams to sign on or the travel issue.
For those that say that VC got as far as the could, I will only say, if the kids believe that then that is as far as they will go. Coach Combs is a winner and will not let the kids believe that. Chilly, Logan Elm, Greenfield, it does not matter. If Coach Combs keeps the kids believing anything is possible.
GO CAVS!!!

No. I do not think that VC would have beaten Chilli if they had a tougher schedule, but I believe it would have been more competitive. I also think that last year's Chilli team was a buzz saw and nothing would have helped, but in MOST seasons playing up will give you a better OPPORTUNITY to win in the post season when the games get tougher and nastier.
