Notre Dame Football 2009?

Post by sider »

I know there isn't a lot of Notre Dame posters on here, but does anyone know what the team will look like next season? I know they return the Qb, Hannah, but that is about it...

Notre Dame lost 4 seniors from last years team. They will have 4 seniors I believe again this year. This team could be good as these kids experienced some good wins last year (6-4). They have also VERRRRY MUCH beefed up on the coaching experience.

Hopefully the full tuition vouchers from the state for the current Portsmouth pre-K - 6th grades will pay some additional dividends outside the classroom and onto the playing field in a few years. There is most likely one more year left. Full tuition voucher applications are available at the high school and elementary I believe starting in February until April 18th. If a kid went to school starting in Kindergarten that is approximately 50K worth of FREE TUITION.
100% of all applicants submitted by the school was accepted last year!

Is Greenup County on the schedule for next year?

I know two of those seniors lost were Bowman and Wise, they were both good football players. Notre Dame seems like it is starting to be established again, but it might be a while before they have another class like the one they had in 2007. And Greenup County wasnt on their schedule last year, so its hard to tell if they will be this year

5 seniors in '09- A. Glockner, Y. Hadjiyannis, J. Emnett, J. Taylor, G. July. No Greenup Cty as far as I know. Greenup is never on ND's schedule. And I believe the voucher is for their entire education thru senior year as long as they don't leave.

Tobias
Taken from an excerpt on the School Choice Ohio Website (www.scohio.org) :

EdChoice Scholarship Program
Ohio’s EdChoice Scholarship program provides scholarships for up to 14,000 students to attend the private schools of their choice. Specifically, students who attend or would attend a public school placed on Academic Watch or Academic Emergency for two of the last three school years qualify for a scholarship to seek other educational opportunities. Parents should apply to a participating private school for admission first, and then apply to the EdChoice scholarship program.

For Kindergarten through eighth graders, the scholarship covers up to $4,500, and for high school students, up to $5,300. The scholarship can be renewed every year as long as the student remains in the district, takes all required statewide tests, and has a good school attendance record.

EdChoice was created in 2005 through Ohio House Bill 66. During the 2007-08 school year, 7,144 students were awarded scholarships totaling $25.5 million.

Coaches. A few additions. I just want to check before I post names but I applaud Coach McKnight's true desire to put together such a staff for the good of the program.

I know nothing about GCHS.

The Wurtland game was originally scheduled on a Thursday @ Wurtland, but was moved up to Monday due to some school activities Wurtland had that Thursday. The Notre Dame kids had lost a tough game at East the previous Thursday and went to Wurtland without a practice, on four days rest (they were banged up). I think there were like 15 kids on that team, but they "Played Like A Champion" every game in 2005, especially the last two against a very good East and very good Wurtland team. Glockner is one of the best natural runners I have ever seen. Wurtland had scouted ND and they knew that "tight end reverse" was coming, everybody knew it was coming, but they could not catch Alex, everybody on the Notre Dame sideline knew, they could not catch Alex. What a great bunch of kids. They only won two games that season, but man did they have heart! I will never forget them.

Tobias wrote:Mike Copley was hired last week as the new football coach at Greenup County. He might want to play more local competition. I do know that GCHS is attempting to fill its schedule in this manner.

Notre Dame Jr. High did play Wurtland Middle School in 2005. (I can't remember if they played McKell or not.)

However, Glockner was a beast to watch for 50+ yards on almost every other play.

Final score:

Wurtland 36
ND 28

It is possible for ND to compete, if not defeat, GCHS.

What happened to Wurtland? West played them in middle school back in 2003. Did they drop football?

Yes, Greenup County and Notre Dame will be playing at Greenup County in 2009 and at ND's Spartan Stadium in 2010.

Why would a school that big want to play a school that small?

Greenup is like 1A or 2A football team with low numbers they have come out.
High school students around 900 plus. I think two years ago around forty kids in the football program from 9 to 12 grades.

Tobias would know more about the numbers.

Coach Mckenzie does an excellent job with the strength and conditioning program at NDHS. The boys will be bigger, faster, and stronger in 2009.

I asked one of the ND players about playing Greenup next year and he confirmed it.

He also mentioned that next year for basketball Notre Dame might be adding Coal Grove to their schedule.. don't know if there is any truth behind it.
