WEEK 8: Burg @ Minford
Re: WEEK 8: Burg @ Minford
They will play a team with a winning record friday night. See you on the hill. GO INDIANS!!!
Re: WEEK 8: Burg @ Minford
good win for the pirates. really dominated the game. first and only touchdown drive was it for the falcons. time of posession had to be really lopsided. soc win and keep moving forward. next friday night hopefully will be a good one. remember its supposedly a rebuilding year for the pirates.

I see Shears getting yards, but Minford's defense is not going to let him run crazy like some of the other Pirate opponents did. Minford has also played a much tougher schedule so far this year. That will be a key in the difference of this game. I am not sold on how good this 6-1 Burg team is this year as they havent played a team with a winning record since Ironton week 1. That one got ugly.
Burg 21
Minford 28
Nice pick . Mr " football knowledge " never make fun of others wrong pick... 7 days later it might bite thee in the arse .... lol MD
I will make fun of your pick of NW over Minford all day you TROLL! 43-0? That is all you can do is run your mouth. At least you are good at something.

Dont worry about the ND TROLL. Still hanging on to his terrible pick a week ago over the NW game.
Now to the game: Minford shot themselves in the foot all night. Refs blew big calls for both teams: What would have been a 100+ yd pick for Minford on a INT with an inadvertent whistle (didnt know a player could return an INT from the endzone) and a pretty clear pass interference call on Minford in the endzone. Not to mention bunches of holding penalties.
Burg played better than Minford, but I think they are in big trouble the next 2 weeks with West and Valley. Good luck to Burg and Minford the rest of the way out.

Re: WEEK 8: Burg @ Minford
I was impressed with Shears' ability to make something out of nothing. He broke containment several times and picked up positive yards. Eddie Miller also made a couple of nice catches to bail his QB out...perfect example being the catch at the 4 on 3rd & long that led to the backbreaking TD to put the game away. That's exactly what Burg's younger role players have to do in support of their senior playmaker.
Minford's offense just absolutely could not get on track. The Burg defense didn't appear to do anything fancy, they just seemed to play fundamental assignment football and kept everything in front of them all night...except the TD pass on the opening drive. That is definitely what you have to do as a young team that seems to be improving every week.
Nice win for Burg. Good luck next week Falcons against Waverly's passing attack.

Re: WEEK 8: Burg @ Minford
Great game once again by the "rebuilding" Pirates. After that first drive by Minford, which was set up by a short kick by the Pirates, plus a pass interference penalty(which it was), Burg dominated this game from that point on. Burg's defense might be small on the line, but man are they quick. Take away that 37 yard TD pass and Minford has less than 100 yards of offense.
I can say this, Valley best not take this Burg team lightly.
Yep, you are right on the refs. They were horrible. U failed to mention the pass interference call they didn't make on the big catch that Eddie Miller made at the Minford goalline. If he doesn't catch that, Burg would have got homered again because they sure as heck wasn't throwing a flag. The Minford DB had his back to play and then shoved the receiver. It is amazing how many pass interfernce calls these refs miss in every game. I thought that in HS you can not touch the WR 5 yards past the LOS? The funny thing is that the one pass interference they did call on Minford was the one where the defender tackled the Burg receiver, who then got up and was wide open and it was going to be a for sure for the Burg. After he caught the ball, then he throws the flag.
As for holding. I talked to a friend of mine that reffed HS football for years and he said you could almost call holding on every play but you just pick out the blatant ones and then flag that.
The back judge blew call after call all night and I was curious as to if he had a buzzer on him to alert him to the 25 second clock getting close. He always kept looking at his watch like he was going by that.

Valley isnt taking anyone lightly, BELIEVE that. This team is on a mission, and they prepare as they are playing the #1 team in the state, EVERY week.

Re: WEEK 8: Burg @ Minford
Minford's DE's were held on every play the first half as Shears rolled right, then ran back to the left. It was very obvious. They finally called in on Burg's first drive of the second half and Shears didnt have much more big plays cutting it back after a long roll out. Not taking anything away from Burg, then deserved the win. They played much better than Minford the second half. Burg will have to figure a way to stop their next 2 opponents DE's because they are not sophomores and they will run through the holds to get to the QB.yabbadabbadoo wrote:Great game once again by the "rebuilding" Pirates. No gripes on my end on the outcome, but that crew looked like deer in headlights.
Good luck the rest of the way.

I only picked to NW last week to get under your (thin) skin. gosh you are easy. MD
Re: WEEK 8: Burg @ Minford
You guys are exactly right about the officials- absolutely could not believe what we were seeing- drill the burg receiver right in front of the official as the ball is coming to #1 Miller and the official sees nothing? Whats up with the PA- just wanted to know what the split the pot numbers were- you couldnt hear the PA announcer unless he got excited.

Re: WEEK 8: Burg @ Minford
Congrats to Wheelersburg on the win. The Falcons just couldn't quite get things to roll their way when they needed them. The difference in the game was turnovers and 3rd down conversions IMO. Wheelersburg converted several 3rd downs, a couple of 20+ to go. When two teams are pretty evenly matched, little mistakes cost you big.
Minford did not control the LOS like I thought they would. At times the Falcons looked flat out weak. A lot of the guys coming back next year need to clear their schedule except for the weight room this winter and spring if they want to win football games next fall. Coach Daniels, Coach Rickman, and Coach Simpson know how to develop the boys physically, but they have to show up and put the work in.
Wasn't this supposed to be a 'down year' for the Pirates? Once again they get the absolute most out of every player they have. Coach Woodward has certainly done a very good job this year with that team.

Re: WEEK 8: Burg @ Minford
It's amazing what you see as an impartial viewer. Me and Jesco both thought the call in the endzone was correct. We alsothought there were a few holds on the edges by Burg but not that many. I seen a small amount of missed/bad calls but did not think this was a bad officiated game at all. Burg definitely stayed in control with their D but without Minford turnovers this is a very tight game. Burg only drove one time for a score. This games outcome was very close to what I expected. Really enjoyed watching this one.

Re: WEEK 8: Burg @ Minford
Lets not forget the fact this is also a rebuilding year for Minford. They lost the QB, TE, 2 starting TBs, 2 lineman and the WR from last year. I believe Falcons only start 5 Seniors this year too. Two young teams that were evenly matched but Burg took advantage of the TOs and that sealed it.
Re: WEEK 8: Burg @ Minford
I really thought the play in the endzone was a pretty obvious pass interference call. I really liked the one on minfords own 30 when the official looked at the marker saw it was short then picked the ball up and moved it about a football length and signaled 1st down, that one was classic.
Re: WEEK 8: Burg @ Minford
or INT Minford had and returned it to about the 45 with room to score then had an inadvertent whistle to bring it back to 20. Would have been 12-0 Minford depending on the XP.

That was a backbreaker. Who knows what the "young" Burg team would have done being down 12-13 to nothing in the early stages. Havent seen a Burg poster talk about that one though.
