Re: Valley vs. Greenup 2/7
This will be a tough game for the Indians...
Valley will have played a tough, physical game @ Oak Hill the night before this one, a big win in the Oak Hill game could have the Indians riding high, but a loss in the OH game could carry over to this game...

The average Kentucky basketball team is better than the average Ohio basketball team. Greenup has been down in recent years but they are improving and will be a tough game. A lot depends on whether the game is played in Ohio or Kentucky. South of the river, the kids are not limited to just five quarters a night and you will see them play six quarters between varsity and JV. Also each will be used to their own style of refereeing.

No, Valley doesn't have the size to matchup with Greenup. Valley has to force tempo, and they haven't been able to do that much against good teams. I don't a thing about Greenup, but they are normally big and they always seem to be solid. Valley still hasn't made the adjustment to the zone. Honestly all you have to do to beat Valley is take care of the ball and play a zone defense. Against Burg, Valley struggled on offense but they forced enough turnovers to create some offense. Valley's zone offense leaves a lot to be desired, some adjustments need to be made. The Indians are still playing hard, and Coach V is getting a lot out of them but they have serious matchup problems against teams with any size at all.
I don't know what to expect tonight... hopefully the Indians will continue to play well at home.

The average Kentucky School is not better than the average Ohio school when you compare student enrollment! With Kentucky having alot of county schools with enourmous enrollment they would all be Div 1 or 2 in ohio and from my experience they are not better than the average Div 2 school's in Ohio. Sure they can come over and beat are Division 4's and some of the D 3's but come on. Valley got thumped last night but I belive they will handle Greenup (the much larger school tonight).

So the game is at Valley ? They start at 7 or 7;30 ?
Interesting matchup . I'm a greenup grad , played there a few moons ago on what most consider the best or 2nd best team the school has had since it's conception in 76 or 77'. That was the 83 team , and i was a member , certainly no team leader.
I don't ever remember Valley and Gc ever playing before. Used to hook up in baseball some. GC's coach was a soph on that 83 team. This is Coach Fraley's 1st year back at his alma mater after coaching Rose Hill Christian in Ashland Ky. Greenup is pretty mid level in their region and district this year, not one their best teams, not one of the worst either.
I've seen them play once in mid december . They played very well that day but have been very up and down. Their most talented kid is a 6'5 soph Trey Williams, it's was his uncle Boo who was a leader on the 83 team (broke a few glass backboards with dunks in his HS days) and Trey is a fine player also. Does'nt have the physique his had. Think Charles Atlas . The other inside player is a 6'3 or 6'4 wide body that moves very well , a lefty named Hampton

Kentucky has schools of all sizes. It is not like Greenup is the only high school in Greenup County. They usually would be a DII school. But Kentucky does not limit their teams to 20 games in a regular season. These kids are well seasoned and they live and breath basketball.
Regardless of the size of the schools involved, the average Ohio football team will beat the average Kentucky football team. The reverse is true in basketball.
This is not Greenups' best team, by far, so that is helpful. Good luck to the Indians. It is good that they are playing at home.

I've seen both teams play and I'll pick Greenup. Better guard play from the Musketeers defensively IMO. Also, the Hampton and Williams kid are hard to stop on the inside. It won't be a blowout however, I'll say 7 points.

They are mid-level in the region, but Greenup County is the #1 seed in the 63rd District. (Russell, Raceland, and Lewis County)
Obviously, this is not a strong district this year.
true, but the way the district was seeded this year was rather strange. They only counted some games and discarded others. Having said that GC has the most talent and should win the thing. But Lewis is tough come tourney time MD

Valley needs to get physical with the brothers, couple of them don't like it. Trey, Dustin, M Hampton had three rebounds among them last night against Ashland.
We are talking about 6'6", 6'4" and 6'3" players. They got to do better on the boards than that!

Just for the record Hampton is 17 years old and should be a junior. Trey and Dustin need to hit the weights and eat as much as possible. LOL Trey and Dustin will start the rest of their high school career no question barring injury. They should end up as some of the best to ever graduate from GC.IMO
Re: Valley vs. Greenup 2/7
Greenup Co. is 8th in their region, which in Ohio would be Districts. They are 1st in their District, which is like our League play and/or Sectionals. The Musketeers being 11-9 overall defeated the teams in the district except for one game they lost to Raceland.
Lewis County is 11-12
Raceland is 7-13
Russell is 4-16

56-51 Valley. GC missed a ton of close range baskets. They controlled the paint but Valley hit several 3's in the 2nd half to puch them over the top.
lithicum and Williams have got a long ways to go to be mentioned as best ever players at GC .

Are you serious, Valley's strength is their guard play and pressure defense. Your the first person I have heard all year to say that another team had better perimeter defense than valley.

Why was there not any Valley posters after the Oak Hill game last night? I forgot, they didn't have any officials helping them with that game last night.
