Re: Week 10: Nelsonville-York (9-0) at Athens (9-0)
It doesn't matter if their freshmen, middle schoolers or what nowheretogo ... Dave Boston Jr. will have around 57 players with shoulder pads and helmets on that can play in the game Friday - Athens will have around 50 ... I was just making a point that the number of boys in the school has no baring on the game what-so-ever (like Butterfingers eluded too).
Its utterly ridiculous to make the statements that a bigger school has, lets say 297 boys, to CHOOSE from ... Coaches can't choose boys to play - boys who are tough enough and have the passion to play the game of football - make that choice.
I mean, if folks think those 20 or more boys in the marching ban... or 50 or so boys playing soccer ... or the 10 golfers and 10 cross country runners ... or the boys in the chess club ... gives Athens an advantage over Nelsonville-York because its a DIII team - then so be it - but it just sounds ridiculous to me.

That is a shame isn't it? Give me a break. Ny fans ran out of arrogant things to say, they spent them all up on the first 5 pages of this post. Naturally the next step is to start bringing up size of school again and number of boys. Rediculous! Next we will start commenting on how Athens got out coached even before the game starts.

I just let you know that the Freshman dress, that is why there is more on the Sidelines. Doesn't mean that NY has the advantage because of more on the sideline. Schools are different in sizes, that is why they have Divisions. And EVERYONE has fans that are over bearing Saintsfan! Every School has them!!!!93Bulldog wrote:It doesn't matter if their freshmen, middle schoolers or what nowheretogo ... It def has a bearing on the game. NY will get more playoff points off of Athens bc of thos 297 boys that they have in their school.
I mean it obvioulsy means something. That is why we have different divisions..right???

Re: Week 10: Nelsonville-York (9-0) at Athens (9-0)
My bad ... NO BEARING in determining the outcome ... How about that?
The number of boys in the stands won't have an impact as to who wins or losses - the boys on the field will ... And quite frankly, Athens and Nelsonville-York may have 50+ boys on the roster - but only about 20 will actually be playing a lot ...
Athens HIGH SCHOOL will have its best 20 football players on the field Friday - Nelsonville-York will have its best 20 - now lets go play football and see who wins ... The argument over number of boys in the school is o.k. back when the season started (or during the summer when a team still has options to add to its roster) ... We're in week 10 fellas, what you have is what you got and that's it.

That's the problem with the Bullpuppy folk....The games are determined way before Football Friday nights comes around. As soon as the season is over NY will start its quest for another great season next year. Trust me..You'll see tomorrow.

Re: Week 10: Nelsonville-York (9-0) at Athens (9-0)
Athens played the ONLY Division I school in our area last year and won 22-7 ... Why travel all the way to Columbus and play someone when we have schools bigger right here in Southeastern Ohio to play ... Chillicothe (D2) is bigger, Warren (D2) is bigger ... And then Athens plays Gallia Academy (same size), Vinton County is the same size ... And now I believe Jackson is being added to the schedule.ButterFingers wrote:BIGHITSINC wrote:Size doesn't matter.......YE RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

Wow...
I always find it funny that NOBODY ever says Vinton County should beat NY every year???? The Vikings are DIII, just like Athens ... Where is the logic?

WELL, LAST YEAR YOU WERE DIV. II PLAYED P.S. (OUTA STATE) PLAY SOMEONE, ANYONE, WITH TWICE THE NO. OF MALE ATHELETES AND THEN, AND ONLY THEN, COULD YOU MAKE AN EDUCATED DECISION.93Bulldog wrote:Athens played the ONLY Division I school in our area last year and won 22-7 ... Re: Week 10: Nelsonville-York (9-0) at Athens (9-0)
Ask the coach at Jackson which was a tougher game: versus (D1) St. Charles or little ol Ironton (D4) ...
I guess Athens could have went up and played (D1) Newark, but Gallia Academy possed more of a challenge and probably better prepared the Bulldogs for the rest of the season.
(BTW) Just because Parkersburg South is across a river makes them not worthy? Its not like their dug into the hills of West Virginia ... lol ... I can get to Parkersburg quicker than I can get to Wellston, Vinton County or Gallipolis.

You can tell it's getting close to game day when the thread goes right in the toilet! :122245
I, for one, don't ever recall getting to watch two undefeated teams play in week 10 in such a close rivalry game. I'm going to sit back and enjoy it, and hope for a Buckeye Victory. I'll root hard for Athens in week 11... I just wish the games were on different nights so I could catch both. If Trimble makes it in, they should be on Saturday I believe, so we can all root for them.
Should be fun tomorrow night.
Go Bucks!

I'm seriously considering going to this one. I live about 2 hours away, but I think this one will be worth it. Buckman makes a great point about the rare chance to see two undefeated teams face each other in Week 10. I still think N-Y is the stronger club and should win by a decent margin.
That said, I will probably be eating these words for breakfast on Saturday. Just the way it goes, I suppose.
Can someone please pass the milk?
