I'M SURE THAT WILL HAPPEN IN TIME,
BUT IRONTON'S SCHEDULE THIS YEAR WAS THE BEST I EVER SEEN.

I think there is a bigger question than the schedule for Ironton. I keep hearing Lutz and Burcham are stepping down I would be worried about finding the right Coach.

I havn't heard anything of Coach Lutz stepping down. If Coach Lutz decides to step down there's a Coach on the Staff now that would transition to the Head Coach position just fine, and all of the Players love him.OSU 77 wrote:You're Tiger Bait wrote:I'M SURE THAT WILL HAPPEN IN TIME,

How would you know all the players love him? I can remember when Coach Lutz came on board there were a great number of players that did not like him but look what he accomplished.

Re: WHAT DOES IRONTON'S SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE FOR 2012
i cannot comment on that because i've not heard anything. the coach at ironton deserves all the praise in the world, and has done an amazing job as coach.coach lutz is the winningest coach in the state of ohio , and like 20th nationally from what i understand.i'm a fighting tiger fan forever, regardless of who is at the helm. but this staff needs to be able to say if and when they want out, and not as a result of a rumor mill.it was said that mike burcham was retiring, but i've not seen anything about that, he may have just been frustrated after the playoff loss. and to be honest coach burcham has been coach lutz's right hand man since like 1972. hard to imagine one without the other, but that remains to be seen. as always
GO TIGERS GO.
PLEASE NOBODY CHANGE ANYTHING IN MY WORDING.
THIS WAS FROM THE HEART, I'D LIKE IT TO STAY THAT WAY.

I agree with you.
But if and when they step aside Lutz and Burcham need to call the Ironton Tribune and make it official. We don't need what went on the last time. The program was held hostage because no one would come out and say we are done.

Talk to any of them and ask them if they like the Hammer.........They will know who your talking about. I've talked to many of the players myself.OSU 77 wrote:How would you know all the players love him? still havn't heard any word that Coach Lutz has any intentions of stepping down though.
Re: WHAT DOES IRONTON'S SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE FOR 2012
We all know that Bob Lutz was hired to coach at Ironton in 1972. What you may not know is that Ironton had hired a coach previously to hiring Lutz who lasted only one day. That man was Larry Coyer, a graduate assistant at Marshall University. It seems that Coyer was offered a job at Massillon Ohio one day after accepting the coaching job at Ironton. He accepted the job at Massillon, leaving the door open for the hiring of the most successful high school football coach, ever, in the State of Ohio. What has happened to Larry Coyer since that time is almost hard to fathom. Coyer’s list of coaching jobs reads like a who’s who in the football world. Coyer began his college coaching at his alma mater Marshall back in 1964. From there he moved on to East Carolina, Ohio State, Houston, UCLA, Memphis State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Iowa and Bowling Green. Where is he now? After all of those stints in the college ranks, Coyer moved on to the Pros. He began coaching the defenses at the Denver Broncos from 2000 to 2006. In 2007 he moved to the Tampa Bay Bucs for one year before moving on to the Indianapolis Colts where he is
today. So as you can see, Dick Gallagher is not the only Ironton coach to make it to the professional ranks as a coach, even though Larry Coyer was only coach at Ironton for one day. As Paul Harvey used to say, †And now you know the rest of the story.â€
This was a post from a friend's website he calls "where are they now."
Now regarding players loving Lutz. Ironton lost to Columbus Desales in Lutz's first game at the helm of the Tigers. They then traveled to Portsmouth and lost a close one to the Trojans. 0-2 and to say the players weren't down would be an understatement. I was in that lockerroom after the Trojan loss even though I was 10 years old, having been a ball boy for the team at the time. After about 5 minutes of the players griping about this or that, Lutz came in and lit the place on fire. By the time he was done, you would have thought Ironton had won the game. Ironton then beat their next opponent to begin a 34 game win streak in the SEOAL that has not been matched since, to my knowledge. They also were undefeated the next season until they were beaten in the AA State finals by Cleveland Benedictine. I played for the Tigers in 1979 when we won it all.
Point is, there are going to be many players who might not love Bob Lutz. But I can say one thing for sure, they sure as hell do respect him, as I do. And to think the second choice for coach back in 1972 is now the winningest coach in the state of Ohio high school football.

Every player on that team was vital. By the end of the year we had 6 freshmen dressing and had a total of 31 players when we boarded the bus for Akron. Akron had 22 starters, only one played both ways.

good stuff , i actually knew of some of larry coyer's stops, but not to that extent. but never knew he accepted the ironton job.

I had never heard about it until my friend posted it. Most of you know him. He was once a moderator on this site. To be quite honest, it happened so fast that I doubt if it was ever made public. The board decides to hire him one day and the next he resigns. I doubt his hiring even made the news. I have been satisfied with the results. I bet you are too! You're Tiger Bait wrote:good stuff , i actually knew of some of larry coyer's stops, but not to that extent. but never knew he accepted the ironton job.

Another possibility in the air was that we are getting another Columbus team on the schedule but that is strictly gossip and I never spread gossip or start rumors......![]()

I don't know about 2012, but it looks like ironton to the OVC is about a done deal. I'm a rh fan and this pisses me off. Some OVC schools need to come to their senses before they let ironton destroy another league. If this happens the OVC will be gone in 3 years.
