Re: BULLDOGS WIN THE JOHN DENO
I only got to see McLaughlin wrestle as I worked a clock on Mat #1. He looked great! Congratulations to all the young men who participated. As a old basketball coach I am always amazed how hard wrestlers work. It was a great atmosphere at McAfee. It was a long day, but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
Re: BULLDOGS WIN THE JOHN DENO
Athens has a very good team. The things they are doing is great keep up the good work. You are pushing the rest of the TVC to pick it up.

Athens has a nice team, but the best team ever in southeast Ohio; I don't think so.

Re: BULLDOGS WIN THE JOHN DENO
it is arguable, but they dominate at any tourny they go to,and being undefeated in duals this year might say they are...

Watched the tourney in the afternoon. Some outstanding finals matches. Congrats to the Bulldogs. As to best team ever in SOutheast. I point out the 1989 Warren with state champ Heath Eddleblutte and thirs place Matt McCoy. They only lost twoce all season in tournaments sent entire team to districts losing to Stubenville by two for district championships. Undefeated in duals. This was the year that Tric won state championship on the same day and nelsonville was no slouch that year. So best in area this year, yes
Re: BULLDOGS WIN THE JOHN DENO
Athens has a very good team this year, Kaiser has done a great job with these kids, but to say they are the best ever in southeast Ohio is a stretch I think.
Some team off the top of my head that were better than this years Athens team:
The 1992-93 Logan Chieftains with Wyrick, Lambert, Chief, Funk, Allison, and others that participated in the Division I state duals
The 1998-99 Marietta Tigers with 4 D-I state qualifiers, 2 placers, 5 SEOAL Champions, and 3 Runners-up
The 1999-00 Marietta Tigers with 4 D-I state qualifiers, 1 placer, 6 District Qualifers, 6 SEOAL Champions, and 2 Runners-up
The 1989 Warren team when they had two state champions and finished 4th in the state.
The 2004-05 and 2005-06 Nelsonville-York Teams.
I am sure there others out there also, these are just the ones that come to mind.

Who is claiming that this season's Athens team is the best ever. I must have missed that post. We have had some good wins this year, why are you trying start something negative. No one is claiming this. We are just happy that things have worked out in our favor the last couple of weeks, and there is a lot of work left to do this season.

Re: BULLDOGS WIN THE JOHN DENO
Nobody is trying to be negative. My post came out wrong. I belive it could be one of the better Athens teams. At least 2 possible state Qualfiers in Mclaughlin and young with many other very tough kids. Look at Athens 3 years ago and then today a big difference.
Re: BULLDOGS WIN THE JOHN DENO
Just wanted to add that the 1989 Warren that had state champs McCoy and Eddleblute finished 4th at the State Tournement.
Re: BULLDOGS WIN THE JOHN DENO
1989 Warren Local 4th Eddelblute State Champ Matt McCoy 3rd, Craig Gentile and Adam West also Qual. Nelsonville-York was 10th that Year Yinger Champ and Shawn Ward 6th. McCoay State Champ in 1990.

Re: BULLDOGS WIN THE JOHN DENO
Did anyone see the conclusion of the 152 championship match when steven mclaughlin raised adam fondale's hand? That was a VERY CLASSY move!!! I know it was tough for Steven to lose that match, but that shows that he is a very good young man and a class-act!!!
Re: BULLDOGS WIN THE JOHN DENO
Negative was the wrong word choice. I should have said argumentative. We have not had Internet all day so I did not see that post and I figured that someone had misunderstood something someone posted. I was searching through the threads looking for one of my guys who may have wrote that we were the "best ever" which I would have been mad if they were to put something like that on here, which I have rules about. We have a solid team but to claim best ever in South East Ohio. No one here thinks that. Besides the season is not over. My philosophy is, it is great to win duals and Tournaments, but it is all practice for the next four weeks. That is where you get your name on the wall, in the the record books, and banners in the gym.
